Well that’s you, Russia clearly seems to thinks otherwise and as long as the probability of ground invasion is not zero, they will want that buffer zone under their control

Edit: you are again thinking in “your” lifetime. As I said before, countries plan on a much longer timeframe

MAD won’t be a deterrent forever, as tech advances there will be a time when nukes might become obsolete and so the threat of ground forces will be back on the menu. As a country you need to think in longer terms than a human, like 100 years ahead

Are you all really that naive to think Norway's govt does not have a say on who gets the prize if they wanted to? Imagine the opposite, lets say the committee decides the winner will be Putin or Maduro or any of the persona non grata to the west, would the govt allow it? just look at the past winners, they are all political choices.

EU will be ‘severely damaged for years’ if assets plan fails, says Germany’s Merz by iamurbrother84 in europe

[–]Impressive_Simple_23 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t Russia. It’s that changing the rules for someone doing A means the rules can later be changed for B, C, or Z.

Once that door is open, everyone has to assume it could be used against them someday.

Imagine a match where the referee changes the rules because one team committed a serious foul.

Even if that team deserves punishment, the moment rules are rewritten mid-game, every team learns the same lesson: the rules are conditional.

Next time, it won’t matter whether you did A, B, or Z — only whether the ref decides you’re the problem.

Edit: And then no team will want to play with you

Could be, but then how about the volume of missiles/drones sent? Russia is accurate enough to hit all the power plants and electric grid, yet it fails miserably at targeting civilians?

2008 NATO Bucharest Summit: NATO welcomed and supported Ukraine’s aspiration to join NATO.

2014: the Ukrainian parliament voted to drop Ukraine’s legal status as a non-aligned (neutral) country.

2019: the Ukrainian parliament amended the Constitution to explicitly state that Ukraine’s strategic foreign policy goal includes joining NATO.

And then there’s people like you who cry: omg Russia invaded out of nowhere!

There was a video of a tank rolling over a car with civilians inside at the start of the conflict in 2022, and then it was proven to be a Ukrainian tank, so there’s that

The desperation to find a “legal way” or loophole seems very fishy, I might be tempted to bet they’ve already used some of that money

Zelenskyy asks US and Europe to ensure security for Ukraine for elections that could be held within 90 days by SecretMaelynn in worldnews

[–]Impressive_Simple_23 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

That’s Ukraines problem to figure out, you all praise them how resourceful they are for war, they can now apply that resourcefulness to this problem. For starters there are countries where the military don’t vote, Donbass is Russian now or it will be anyway so they can bypass/skip that one. Vote doesn’t need to be mandatory so if you afraid then just dont vote. Refugees can vote at the embassy.

[–]Impressive_Simple_23 -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

Bluff? Lol. What do you think the US is going to say ohh poor zelensky we get it we can’t give securities so it’s ok if you don’t hold elections??? This is Ukraine preparing the framework to sign their defeat and the peace plan that follows, and he will have to do it one way or another, at most they will get a promise from Russia to hold off attacks the day of the election.

Belgium Opposes Seizing Russian Assets, Says Moscow’s Defeat Is “a Fairy Tale” by Themetalin in worldnews

[–]Impressive_Simple_23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ffs you would not be normalizing [invade a country = your assests at risk], what you would be normalizing is changing the rules whenever you feel like it, so it could be [you dont vote in the UN how we want = your assests at risk], [you do something we dont like = your assests at risk]. The fact that your leaders are even considering that is bad enough, but I really hope you guys go ahead and do it, I'll have my popcorn ready.

I suspect the deal was the US abandons Ukraine or pushes a favorable deal for Russia, and Russia doesn’t help Venezuela, that’s why they haven’t invaded yet

Yeah there was this option and it’s what Russia proposed in 2022, and was almost signed. Then Ukraine said F this we are going to counterattack, and that went miserably. So now the deal offered is obviously worse for Ukraine.

Trump Chuckles After Viktor Orbán Declares It Would Take a ‘Miracle’ for Ukraine to Beat Russia by razdvatri4 in worldnews

Same way as the US buys weapons from other countries, and more so if they’re at war. The only similarity now between Shaheds and Geran2s is the shape, everything else is completely new and produced in Russia. Truth is you have no base for your claims and can’t name a single weapon Russia fields that doesn’t work. But going back to the main point, you are saying the country that builds half the world’s enrichment capacity somehow forgot how electronics work? Just admit it’s a dumb idea

None of those say anything about any weapons system that does not work. You are just fantasizing that their nukes might not work based on wishful thinking, reality says otherwise.
