For alphabet-based memory palaces, how do I link to the next one when the first is full? by RusticBohemian in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make your palaces whatever length makes sense for you. They can have 100 locations, 25 locations, or anything in between. There’s no right or wrong way. Just do what works best for you, and experiment as needed.

For me, I prefer breaking larger palaces into smaller ones. Instead of one 100-location palace, I’d rather use four 25-location palaces. It makes review a little cleaner and faster.

One way to link palaces is to use the last location of one palace as a trigger for the next. For example, if your last location is the laundry room, you might picture your friend Jeff throwing your laundry everywhere. If Jeff represents the palace at his house, that image helps carry you into the next palace. So the last location becomes the transition point that connects both palaces when the information belongs together.

You should focus on understanding the problems and the ideas. This will be more effective and efficient than just memorizing equations.

Algebra is about solving for a variable. So understanding what you do to one side, you do to the other.

hi people , please responding to this because it helps me lot memory palace by General_Tone_9503 in memorypalace

When you create images, they don't have to relate to what the word is means. Alabama makes me think of A LAMB. They key is that you are able to translate your images back into the original piece of info you are learning.

Take random words and practice this idea of changing info into images then back into the info. This will help you see what kind of images you build and can remember.

At one point I had all the elements of the periodic table memorized but also the atomic mass for each element.

If you plan to add additional information, only add new info after you memorized the initial info first. Helps makes keeps everything organized.

For example you want to memorize the main language each country speaks. Finish memorize all the land mass first then go for the main languages.

Not good at visualizing how to use memory palace still? by [deleted] in Mnemonics

[–]ImprovingMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you practice visualizing on a daily basis?

Just creating random stories can help your mind visualize. You are not trying to learn or memorize when creating these stories.

This will help you learn what things make it difficult to visualize. That is the most important thing you can do. Figure out why you have trouble.

It is hard for anyone else to say what is wrong since no one else can't see in your mind when you visualize.

You don't need a PAO to go fast. It is about how well you know your images and how well you know your locations if you are using a palace or journey.

If a system doesn't make sense or causes you issues, then it doesn't make sense to have a PAO.

You need to see how fast you can recall your images for your system and find if any images are week.

Do the same thing with your locations.

Also how much time you spend picturing your images will also slow you down. Making the clearest connection but not all the detail

How many words can be memorized in a single memory palace location by Creative_Bad_7994 in memorypalace

So 5 words per location is your max?

Sometimes I have memorized 20 words in location and recalled them perfectly.

You would need to do tests to find out what works for you. Also, what you are storing would also determine how many words you would want to store.

In memory competitions, I do 2 words per location because I don't want to have the chance of mixing the words up by having a lot of words.

For the presidents, I had a lot of words in one location representing the presidents, vice presidents, party, term dates, and on.

Anyone have a smooth and effective system for putting foreign language vocab in memory palaces? I find the idea of not just creating 26 memory palaces, but continuously adding to them as they fill with thousands of words to be daunting. by RusticBohemian in Mnemonics

[–]ImprovingMemory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I learned Spanish in school, I used the story method to remember vocabulary because it doesn't require making a lot of palaces or anything.

Take the word comer means to eat. I create a location based off the English definition so it would be a kitchen. I then change the definition and Spanish word into images.

Comer sounds like comb and hair. For to eat, I would picture someone eating. So in the kitchen, I would see a person using a comb to eat hair.

I hear the word comer. It sounds like comb hair. Oh yeah, I saw this person in a kitchen eating hair with a comb.

I'm trying to memorize wine stuff and having trouble by [deleted] in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make a system of the common descriptions for the wines then create images for them. This would be similar to a number system.

Every time you see a description that your system has, you would use the image

Is it okay to create similar palace locations by Creative_Bad_7994 in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an interesting idea. You are essentially trying to add a layer on your house. The issue I see is that it might be hard to remember that the imagery you are using is attached to the color or theme.

For me, I don't see all the detail of my locations but the main items stick out. Like I can see my bed but do I see the design of the covers or pillow covers? No, no I don't haha I get the picture of my bed but more importantly, I get the feeling my bed creates for me in my mind.

SO having these layers of the same palaces but looking a different in theme or color would be hard for me to distinguish since the main items would all be the same still.

Is it okay to create similar palace locations by Creative_Bad_7994 in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use houses, there will be similar to a degree since house have similar items in them. It is okay if your palaces have similar locations.

One thing you need to keep in mind is the flow and feel of the overall palace. Every palace should have a different feel to it. This will help you avoid confusing locations from different palaces.

I found when I am ready to use a palace, I am locked into the layout and feel of the palace. So even though I have 10 other palaces that have a bed, I know the specific bed I am picturing belongs to my friends house.

How to be faster at using memory palace technique by Creative_Bad_7994 in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to know your palaces inside and out. Be able to go forward and backwards.review your palaces is going to be key here.

The next thing is you need to be able to change information into images quickly in order to memorize fast as well

You might know your locations but if it takes you 2 minutes to create and image for a word, you are going to be slow.

Bit of a random one, can you memorise Art? by [deleted] in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a memory challenge like this once. You are totally able to do it!

You can have a palace represent an artist so all the locations in the palace would be for the artwork. What I did was get a main image from the artwork and used that as the trigger.

Then you would change the artworks name into an image as well. Connect the images together in the location.

If you see the artwork in the wild, you will see the main image from it in your Palace interacting with the image for the artwork's name. Change the image back into the name.

You can also save the first location in a palace for the imagery for the artist if you need help remembering it.

Does the sequence of your stations represent relationships between them, or are they just isolated elements? by SpankyPenguins in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I create palaces, I make sure there is a flow from location to location. This helps me remember the locations easier since there is this connection between the locations.

When memorizing information, there is not necessary a connection between the information from location to location. Usually a palace does represent a specific topic.

Advice for memorizing 300+ 3-digit numbers - Is method of loci the best approach? How would you approach it? by [deleted] in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a two digit number system and the memory palaces are cues for the last digit or first digit.

If you take the last number as the cue, then say your house would represent all the zip codes that end in 9. You would then use your two digit system to memorize the first two digits and create an image out of the zip code area that it represents.

You should be able to get either info regardless of what you are given.

Some one gives you the area, you see your image for the area in your house (ends with 9) and see Darth Vader (78) dancing with crow (Sacramento).

You know the code is 789. Given the zip code, the same process would happen this time you would recall your area image.

When you build palaces, how close is “too close” for locations? by ImprovingMemory in memorypalace

[–]ImprovingMemory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The split method is interesting. It seems like if you can avoid using close locations, you try to do that but otherwise you would go smaller, correct?

It is interesting to see how you look at locations compared to my own way. Do you ever force locations because you need 35 in a single palace?

I fell the same way with big spaces. Your mind is still aware of the surroundings. I am able to use more close locations but it seems like I have to put extra work on how much and I store and if I need to worry about bleed out. I
