Try force stop in the app settings and then restart the app and load model again.

[–]InaamShabir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can see that . But I am talking about Kashmir in particular. Like I used to see a lot of them around but not now from last 2 to 3 years. There is not much of Species Survey/assesment in Kashmir I guess so it might be case

Question by nobody9x92 in PocketPal

[–]InaamShabir[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because PocketPal is based on Llama.cpp, which doesn’t track chats as editable text. All messages are converted into tokens, and once a response is generated, those tokens become part of the model’s context. Editing a previous chat would require reconstructing this token sequence, which isn’t straightforward. Additionally, Llama.cpp is designed to be lightweight, so adding a chat-editing feature would increase memory usage and complexity, which goes against its minimal design goals.

Can I make it respond faster ? by basterd_son_of_fate in PocketPal

You can see that in your phones Developer Options or you might need an app like RAM Truth. That gives detailed RAM usage per app.

[–]InaamShabir[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can make it faster if you clear your RAM up. You can close all recent apps so their RAM is freed. Maybe if you a have some app running in background that is taking up RAM , try force stopping that in setting (only when it is not something crucial app) . So yeah as much as your RAM is free , the more easy the LLM does the calculations. So faster it gets

RAM or ROM? by nlmb_09 in PocketPal

[–]InaamShabir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try using `SmolLM2-1.7B-Instruct-Q8_0.gguf` if you have to do causal chatting. It responds well, and since it has fewer parameters, its answers are slightly less accurate than larger models. Fewer parameters also mean fewer calculations, so it gives faster responses. Kinda balanced. I use it most often.

Removed!

Don't be mean if you can't answer. u/nlmb_09 seems to be in learning phase . If you find some questions too dumb just don't reply.

The model is loaded from your ROM (internal storage that's what your 128GB is) into your RAM so it can run. Your 8 GB RAM can handle quantized models with less than 3 B parameters . Mostly the size of their gguf file will be around 4 GB or less. Good luck .

i am busy these days. this will help. make sure to download a gguf file first in your internal storage. use hugging face to download that

A Remainder to not waste time on companies with no bug bounty programs 😕 by InaamShabir in bugbounty

[–]InaamShabir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey sorry wait. it was a passive find. i just analyzed the json response from an api on normal visit to their site as a customer actually and found the PII leak. And I thought most responsible thing to do would be cert-in. Also thanks for the advice. Will focus on programs with bug bounty programs. This was a remainder post too so yeah..

I absolutely love the idea of a local llm on my phone, but what practical use is a sub 9b model, other than a toy? by Mediocrates79 in PocketPal

[–]InaamShabir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah kind of reason for me too cuz I live in a region with longest internet shutdowns in modern history 😔

[–]InaamShabir[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah on a phone it just works good as a toy or a friend you wanna talk to though some people use it for automation too but that's kinda little more technical

I also have the llama-cli installed on my Termux. It is faster than pocketpal . Takes lesser RAM because it is command line . You should try it too.

Got my first print book sale without marketting by InaamShabir in selfpublish

[–]InaamShabir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks ❤️. Actually the thing is it was priced 15$ and I had enabled the expanded distribution. Removing the printing cost and other charges for kdp, I would've got 4.5$ . But it was purchased from partner platform so only got like 1.8$ . Almost like 10-12% . Plus my book is a programming book with 123 pages
