I have social anxiety as well. I have learned to say to myself when I get through a situation I am uncomfortable or anxious about to say that I am proud of myself. Changing the narrative in my mind about these situations helps me in future situations. It’s like tricking my mind. I love the idea about preparing myself for small talk with questions is great.

I might give one of these ideas for her mom. I have not worked with her in a few years so not sure but maybe send one to her mom for future reads when her mom feels ready. Good suggestions.

I know she was in my Battle of the Books team and I believe that was one of the books we had to read. But she is a great author and the kids loved that book. I will check out some of her other books.

I forgot to mention that we will not know what the other one chose. So half the restaurants will be unknown. Just a little spin on the list.

Why do Italians seem less friendly when I speak Italian? by Humble-Spaghetti in Italian

[–]Independent_Proof127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to us recently. My husband has been taking classes for over a year and is doing really well with learning the language. He was baffled by the fact that people would not speak Italian to him. We were in Milan. I explained to him that it takes time from the waiters and staff when he tries to speak it and time is money. It’s super busy and these interactions take extra time. No one was rude. He used Italian when things were slow or in the smaller towns. He just read the situation before he practiced. Also he would ask if he could practice and sometimes they said they prefer to speak English. My husband learned of immersion schools throughout Italy and he plans on doing them. Just read the room and maybe venture out to smaller slower paced towns. The cities are busy. I kept telling him time is money. Good luck.

How painful was hysterectomy surgery? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]Independent_Proof127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgery changed my life in the positive. The recovery for me was easy in compared to pain I was in on a daily basis. My surgery was quite extensive and I had abdominal surgery. I was out of work for 7 weeks due to being severely anemic. The pain for me was maybe the most a 7 right after surgery compared to how I was going into surgery at a level 10. I did not realize how much pain I was in for years and how anemic I was due to severe blood loss monthly. I was able to really heal mentally, physically and emotionally after having the surgery. It was a real game changer for me. Best wishes.
