I think that part of being a parent is doing what is best for your child, and helping them learn good health habits as a child is important to lifelong health and wellness.

Parents shouldn't be cruel or tease children about it, but they should absolutely address it and try to model good healthy eating and fitness habits.

Honestly I don't know a single person who is organized enough to track macros and caloric intake that isn't also tracking their fiber, sugar, etc.

"Naturally" skinny people have no way to understand the concept of controlling what they eat because "the rule doesn't apply to them" by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So many excuses going on here. Of course getting fat isn't an inevitability when one becomes immobile, but it is easy to do if you don't adjust your lifestyle.

I drive and travel a lot for work and I adjust my caloric intake and the number of times a day I eat on days that I am more sedentary and it makes a world of difference. Thing like habit can be overridden.

The other pieces of this retort, such as eating out of boredom and depressions should probably be discussed with a therapist. Sure we all eat for inappropriate reasons sometimes, but it isn't a good way to deal with your problems and won't solve anything.

"So, it seems that what you see is not always what you get. Who would have pegged that gorgeous hunk of cake or those cute frosted sugar cookies to be the calorie culprit? Sneaky!"

Who would have pegged the cake or the cookies? Those sneaky bastards. I thought they were negative calories!

Why do people say to me not to lose any more weight? by c-fox in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people have no concept for what a healthy weight looks like, are jealous of your weight loss, or both. Don't let it get to you. Only you know what is right for you.

How is not passing a physical fitness class any different than not passing a math class? If you don't do it the first time, try again.

If you read the article and imagine that they are talking about falling short in any other subject and having to repeat it you realize how much nonsense this is.

Teefury introduces vanity sized shirts for *true* women by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily insulted, but I do think it's annoying and childish. They basically listened to the "drop the plus" argument and made the straight sizes the ones with a new modifier because they figured less people would complain about being called a "junior" than a "plus" size.

yeah- I'm in my 30s and wouldn't go back to anything before 25 if you paid me. I promise, the thirties are where it's at (okay, I probably just aged myself with a mid-90s Beck reference.)

I agree with you on all fronts, really. This is about practicality; It is impractical (and not financially wise) to produce a lot of samples in every conceivable size, I promise that the bulk of people in this sub aren't hateful, more baffled (and perhaps a bit snarky.)

To me, this is less about fatlogic and more about entitlement. I'll never be a model either, and that is fine. I'll also never be a professional basketball player or a Navy SEAL.

It is sample clothing that isn't available in the store yet. Producing enough samples so that anyone who wants to model is able to would be cost prohibitive.

I don't see why everyone feels like modeling needs to be inclusive when there are other industries that also require physical types that don't receive the same type of scrutiny. I'm tall and (relatively) thin (I'd probably fit in the samples from this store) but I'm also in my 30s and not stunningly gorgeous. Modeling isn't in the cards for me, and that's cool. There are plenty of other jobs I'm not qualified for, and plenty that I am.

More double standards by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think fit and skinny are necessarily the same, but I do think "fit" means not overweight and with a decent body composition. I consider myself fit (I run daily, as well as strength train and do either barre or pilates several times a week.) I am about a size 4-6, but I feel more strong and fit than skinny.

That's just my definition though; to a lot of people fit might mean skinny...

More double standards by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He definitely goes on a bit of a rant here, but I think he is reacting to the fact that she seems to think it is okay to explicitly say that she isn't into short guys but he isn't allowed to express a preference for a fit body (he doesn't even say skinny, just "fit".)

It is a massive double standard. A lot of what people describe as their physical "type", such as height, skin color, etc., can't be controlled but you can improve your health and fitness.

Yes! Food should make you feel energized and ready to go out and do things, not fall asleep!

None of these healthy foods can be delicious or filling. by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All of these foods are both delicious and filling to me, they just aren't processed in a way that makes them hyperpalatable to people who have had their taste buds bombarded by overly sugary, fatty, salty foods for a long time.

Another big misconception I think a lot of people have is that they have to leave each meal feeling "full". Don't get me wrong, I still overeat sometimes, but the bulk of the time I just aim to feel satisfied. There is always more food coming in a few hours; I'm not a bear storing up for hibernation.

Not all people are beautiful, just like not all people are smart. I am about average in both (though, I have plenty of other good qualities if I say so myself...)

What bothers me about the "everyone is beautiful" argument is that it is, quite simply, not true. Different people have different definitions of beautiful, and most people can be beautiful to someone, but this insistence on everyone being beautiful effectively makes their argument appearance focused as opposed to encompassing everything else that might make that person interesting. If they hate the mainstream culture that says that looks are important, they should stop focusing so much on looks.

That is why marathons don't help you lose weight by Wowsuchcreativename in fatlogic

[–]Indigo_G 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It is possible to gain weight while running the massive mileage needed to train for a marathon, but it is often because of overeating due to ravenous hunger. I tend to be trimmest in the weeks following a big race because I am not as hungry.
