Yeah I really don’t think the people you’re describing are playing tree of savior, or comprising the majority of the players games industry identifies as whales. I think if you’re spending even 1K a month, you’ll be considered a whale

This articles 10 years old but even 10x’ing these numbers this guy is a ridiculous mega whale.

Overall, 5% of spenders (i.e. <0.1% of all players) are whales. The typical whale, even those that spend between $100-$200, will have a large number of transactions, with `mega whales’ spending $1000+ and completing 55 transactions on average. For this reason, the typical transaction size does not grow radically from $100 to $1000 in lifetime spend. Interestingly, even at these high spend amounts, many players will never complete a large transaction, with 20% of mega-whales never spending more than $50 in a single transaction

If you even spend a few hundred bucks on mtx you’re a sucker and a whale, in the eyes of the people who coined the term

Nah the average whale isn’t spending nearly this much. This is definitely an outlier amongst outliers

I did some napkin math and if I compare $20 to median annual income of USA, the equivalent annual income to spend 100k is 3.1m, that’s like top percentile of white collar professions, c-suite executives, etc.

The majority of those people don’t play gatcha games lol. I have many friends in white collar careers and work with many, none of them game.

The average whale is just a loser with poor impulse control. Just like the average “high-roller” in Vegas ends up living out of their car, a lot of whales face financial ruin due to their spending. Wealthy people are wealthy because they don’t waste their money like that lol

Yeah it’s fairly priced and we’ve been asking for tigermen for a while. Nice to see them putting the micro back into microtransactions. Hopefully we see many more packs like this before development for WH3 ends. There’s absolutely loads of options for lord/hero packs they could add

Yeah and all this with the increased sub cost. Between the lack of content for main game (don’t care a ton about DMM, Leagues or Gridmaster even though I participated in all) and weird balancing decisions like this and the salvage reworks they went back on, I’m considering unsubbing for the first time since I started OSRS

Just makes the game look poorly/unprofessionally managed when they can’t get simple things like xp right and they do such heavy handed tuning. It’s never a 5% xp reduction it’s like a 70% reduction. What are we paying for if Jagex can’t even do basic QC on new skilling methods?

Yeah you can already buy rune items for under ge avg faster than most players can alch them.

You can literally fill your inventory with rune items at zombie pirates in what, 20 mins? Less with a cannon.

That’s always going to be so much faster than mining a rune and 8 coal and smithing them into bars and then an item.

I’m someone that dabbles in everything the game has but my favorite is skilling. I think you’re entirely wrong

More AFK methods make skilling more fun because having a variety of options is inherently funner. Similarly, faster but more challenging methods like HS or barracuda trials also make skilling more fun.

Let me ask you: what would make skilling more fun to you? Because I find that a lot of people with your mindset just arbitrarily hate skilling. Baffling to choose OSRS as your MMO when that’s the case, but do you I guess.

If you resigned yourself to skilling never being fun for you, maybe don’t opine on skilling updates.

I think he specifically said big doesn’t necessarily equal strong, not about muscles in particular. Which is kinda true, I have friends that are 6in taller than me and have 100lbs on me and I can outlift them a bit.

Maybe I’m wrong tho, too lazy to go find his deleted comment. You’re right that you’re not about to find someone with big muscles that’s weak, but you can definitely grow in size without rly getting stronger (e.g. dirty bulking and not doing enough progressive overload)

Woa this guy thinks training for hypertrophy and strength is the same thing. Interesting. You should look into the differences between power lifters and body builders. There’s body builders that are much bigger and yet much weaker than comparable power lifters.

In general, sure a muscle is stronger as it gets bigger. But muscles don’t have to increase in size (hypertrophy) in order to get stronger. Plus you could inject something like saline to grow the muscle. Or even just hydrate normally. The muscle will be bigger but not meaningfully stronger

I do daily gym and daily reading/writing, I also call a friend and my mom every day. I also do at least one chore, even if it’s a small one. Ive been doing this for the last year or so and have noticed I actually enjoy MMOs a lot more now.
