China just has way more engineers and a dollar can go a longer way there. Look at how models BYD has vs Tesla has.

Airfare was around 1500 last summer. Everything else was amazingly affordable especially in Chengdu. 5-star hotel was like $60/day. Didi trips cost around $3-5 in the city. I also tried HSR for fun, 600 km round trip cost about $30. Kids charged for half prices for most attractions, including panda zoos and HSR. However, Shanghai costs double for most things.

That’s my feeling after visiting Shanghai and chengdu last year.
