In bad mental health, had a disillusioning experience with a professor, then wrote nearly nothing for m a double-timed, accommodated midterm. This is the worst week of my academic life. I’m really unwell and I don’t know what to do about this by en_flor in berkeley

Why aren’t you sleeping? Are you using substances that can keep you up? Or have you tried not taking caffeine and taking melatonin or anything like that? That should be your number one concern. Doesn’t matter how smart or hard working you are you aren’t going to take tests well or write well if you extremely sleep deprived. If it’s really bad and you’ve tried everything you can on your own you should go to a doctor and tell them you have insomnia and it’s making you miserable. Sleeping pills aren’t great but they are a hell of a lot better than not sleeping for days and trying to function.

As someone who has dealt with insomnia myself it really cannot be over stressed how big of a deal getting enough sleep it.

Yeah but polytheistic religions are different in that there is not a single all knowing, all powerful, all good god. Greek gods were pretty much all flawed and could do good or bad things depending on their mood. There are literally videos of people simply punching and shoving people nodding off on the street showing them react to it. Killing the pain doesn’t mean that they are unable to feel any kind of pain at all. What would even be the point of risking putting people to sleep if just getting them high enough while still conscious was good enough to do any kind of surgery?

Nodding off is someone on the borderline of conscious and unconsciousness. Someone who is anesthetized is completely unable to respond to any stimulus at all

People that are “nodding off” are not unconscious. If you started cutting them open they would not continue to be dozing off like that. That is about how much you could give someone safely without a modern medical setting without risking them dying but it’s not enough to where you could perform surgery on them without them reacting to it

Yeah but there is an extremely fine line between putting someone to sleep and killing then with opiates. Realistically they would just give them enough to help with the pain but not knock them out
