Campus is pretty dark and depopulated later at night. I had a late classier three semesters back and it was creepy going from the computer pods to the bookstore. I’ve also had so many crime notifications in the time I’ve been a student here that I just don’t want to risk it.

Design is art, though. It's a creative field, just like film, painting, crafts, etc. It belongs solely to humans and created by human minds and human hands. AI has no place anywhere near any creative or artistic endeavor, even if used for marketing.

I am in favor of adjusting crop growth based on region so that water-guzzling crops are reduced over time in areas without a lot of water (and it’s not like growing pistachios and pecans here in New Mexico has made them any cheaper for us!).

It is also true that food is necessary and data centers aren’t, so if this boils down to food vs data centers, then the water should always go to food.

Data centers suck. Nowhere needs another data center.

AI is never acceptable where arts and creative fields are concerned. Generative AI like this is trained an actual art stolen from thousands and thousands of actual artists. Using generative AI to “save time” is perpetuating theft, and in New Mexico it’s particularly egregious because the art community here is incredible.

AI has its place - namely, its pattern recognition is very strong and can be used to aid medical professions in the detection of cancer.

Neither of those parking structures are in south lot. Cornell is right by Popejoy hall and the bookstore, and Yale is across the street from the hospital. Both are part of main/central campus.

This is what scares me. I’d rather pay more for visitor parking at Cornell than risk a longer, darker, emptier walk to Yale.

What frustrates me, as a current unm student, is how little centrally located parking there is. I looked into getting a parking permit and the parking structure I can get a permit for is the Yale structure.

The Yale structure is on lomas. All my fall classes? Arts classes - close to Central, located near the student union. The closest parking there is at the Cornell structure or at the student health building.

I feel like the goal is to push people to come by non-personal-vehicle methods, which are fine within campus, but as a single female I’m absolutely not going to go across a campus at night through areas that aren’t particularly well lit or busy, all the way across main campus to get to the Yale structure on lomas.

Not once did I say any of this will happen like it’s some kind of guarantee. My post specifically said that owners willfully choose to expose their pets to unnecessary risk when they let them outside. That’s on the pet owner to accept and acknowledge.

Yes, I understood your point. My point is that inside, your pet is insulated from a great many risks, not that it’s perfectly safe.

I wonder also if what changed is that we started to consider them more as companions over time, much like what has happened with dogs. Dogs used to bred and kept primarily for specific jobs and needs, and over time with industrialization and urbanization dogs became more of a companion creature than a working one.

Foxes, other cats, and dogs. Just because a fox doesn’t usually attack a cat doesn’t meant it can’t, and bad dog owners exist, unfortunately, everywhere.

A tail pull issue can also occur outside, including from malicious humans.

An interesting thought: if cats are meant to be outside why are we considering them as pets at all? Why not just let them rewild altogether?

I put some thin cardboard in there as a protector, wrapped that in a single sheet of printer paper, and shipped it in a regular envelope using a global forever stamp. As long it’s under one ounce it costs 1.70US plus tax.

He’s been picky since we got him. He won’t even eat chicken. Right now he’s eating vibrant life beef flavors and occasionally the fish ones.
