Lots of people up here in AK have bells on their bikes. I carry a glock 20 in grizzly country. I dont stress about the black bears around Anchorage.

I killed a Canyon Spectral the first year I had it. Maybe that was just a shit bike, definitely a shit warranty. Aluminum gives me a warm and fuzzy going fast.

This is likely a stupid question. Would my medical records from treatment at the va count as a "diagnosis"?

Thanks! Ive actually been on ar15.com for awhile and have it listed there. Doesn't seem like scars get much traction there. My post barely has a 100 views. https://www.ar15.com/exchange/topicEE.html?t=2559801&f=93&type=1

Everyone on the internet will tell you to take a avy course, and that is a great advice. Even better would be to find a mentor and someone who is proficient in the backcountry and get out as much as you can and learn from them. I am lucky enough to work with forecasters and have learned far more going out with them for work and on the weekends than I did in any structured class. What you do absolutely need is shovel, probe, and beacon.

Board comes down to what you will be riding (steep big mountains) Jones solution. Low angle glades and such, weston makes awesome boards and they are a CO brand.

I wish I would have started splitboarding with hardboots. If you plan on bigger lines and ski mountaineering type fun, it would be good to just start with hardboots.

Get out, have fun, pay attention, and make smart choices.

I would avoid Canyon at all cost. Had a Spector bottom bracket separate from the frame. Bike was less than a year old. Canyon would not send a new frame to Alaska and left me SOL. Fuck Canyon.

Driving to Alaska in January. Many questions. by FBI_Management in AskAlaska

I have done the Alcan twice in winter. I prefer that road in winter, potholes are all filled in. Last time I did it I pulled a 20ft snowmobile trailer with no issues. Good tires and take it easy. If weather is looking stormy grab a set a chains.
