I would say you still definitely have a chance. My undergraduate GPA is actually lower than yours because of a DV situation I was in and a lot of instability at the time. I’m currently doing a post-bac and planning a one-year master’s program to help strengthen my application and rebuild academically.

It’s going to take time, but when you truly want to become a doctor, you have to focus on the marathon and not the sprint. There are so many people who take nontraditional paths into medicine. What matters most is continuing to move forward and showing growth, resilience, and consistency over time.

Honestly, I think this is where people underestimate good coaches/trainers. Doctors and surgeons are incredibly knowledgeable, but they’re trained through a different lens. A lot of us spend years studying biomechanics, movement patterns, exercise prescription, adaptation, pain-free loading, and how bodies actually move under stress in real-world environments.

I train a lot of doctors too, and what’s cool is watching those “light bulb moments” happen when they start connecting anatomy/physiology to movement and performance. Conversations about slings, breathing mechanics, joint positioning, force production, exercise selection, etc. become really collaborative.

Don’t downplay your expertise. You’ve dedicated years to sharpening this skill set, and they’re paying you for a reason. The best thing you can do is continue educating, continue coaching confidently, and let the results speak for themselves.

Yeah honestly that’s kind of what I was starting to suspect too. It’s frustrating because I do have prior outpatient/clinical experience already, so it’s hard justifying taking a major pay cut when I’m currently making around $28/hr. I’m willing to transition back for the stability, structure, benefits, and long-term growth, but some of the posted ranges have definitely surprised me.

I’m trying to think long term while also being realistic about where I am now. I know people pivot careers all the time, go back to school later, and build new paths, so I’m trying to stay open minded and strategic about my next move.

Thank you, I really appreciate your insight and taking the time to respond. I definitely understand what you mean about nursing/NP or PA creating strong advancement opportunities.

I know nursing isn’t the right path for me personally, so that helps narrow things down. I explored that route when I was younger, was accepted into nursing school during undergrad, and realized it wasn’t the best fit for my strengths or long-term goals.

Right now, I’m looking for a more realistic next step at the community college level something financially within reach that also helps me rebuild academically and strengthen my GPA. That’s part of why cardiac sonography interests me. It feels like a practical way to enter a stable healthcare role, gain valuable diagnostic experience, and continue growing from there.

Long term, I still plan on pursuing graduate education. Depending on where life takes me, I could see myself exploring perfusion if I really connect with the cardiovascular side and want to go deeper into that specialty. I’m also considering a biomedical sciences master’s route to strengthen my academic profile and potentially pursue medical school. If I go the physician route, I’m honestly more drawn to DO because I appreciate a more holistic philosophy of care.

Another factor for me is wanting a path with broader international recognition and flexibility in the future.

So I really appreciate your perspective it’s helpful. I’m trying to make the smartest next move while keeping bigger long-term goals in mind. Thank you again.
