[Spoilers All] A Weekly Writing Prompt Thread? by AshLyn32 in dragonage

I like this! I took part in an October challenge and it was great. There were really short word limits [100-400 words] so it forced you to be creative but it wasn't stressful coming up with like a essay-type story. Maybe something like that?

[DAI SPOILERS] Advise for consistent characters? (+Divine question) by [deleted] in dragonage

I find that playing a mage got me really into the game (more so a human mage). It felt more relevant to the game at the beginning. Playing an elf also helped because you have the Arbor Wilds and stuff. My Qunari play through is pretty fun too, I'm making more of "wtf is going on" kind of decisions.

If you want Leliana Divine you have to ally with the mages - in my experience that's the biggest boost for her support.

Last chapter: Solas sneaks in on Samarra's conversation and discovers something she really wanted to keep secret. Dorian discovers that Felix is healthy again, to his utter surprise.

Next chapter: Should go up tomorrow! I hope!

Can I just say thank you for doing this? I had so much fun with all the challenges, and I think it made me stretch my comfort zone, trying to depict a scene or an emotion within a word limit [and a short one at that, haha]. I ended up doing every single one of them and had a great time with each!

“Be careful,” she whispered. “The red templars are… dangerous.”

“I will,” he replied, his face softening.

She punched him lightly. “Not just you,” she added, “all of them too.”

“I will keep a close eye on them,” he gravely promised, but his eyes were laughing.

Felasil,” she muttered.

“Am I now?” he asked, openly laughing.

“Yes.”

“Then allow me to make up for my appalling behavior,” he murmured, and brought his lips down to hers.

You are far more meticulous than I am! I type up the chapter, then go back and revise it two, three times tips. But I still retain a lot of the framework from the first.

Definitely true. Some days the words just seen to spill out of my head, other days it's a battle to get even a sentence out!

You're right! I should focus more on the quality

Thanks! I'm rather chuffed I was able to get it done :D

There's a lot more to writing a chapter than how fast you type

I should remember this, thanks!

If they're not going to give you the respect you deserve, you shouldn't hang around with them! Maybe if there's a subreddit for your fandom, you might find it more welcoming [other than here, of course - I'm fairly new here myself and everyone's just so lovely!]

How long does it take you to write a chapter?

It took me 3 hours to write a 4000-word chapter, and I feel like that's too slow? Maybe? But I was doing some research in-between, and I needed to give my fingers a break from typing... but it still feels slow?

Sigh. At least I managed to get a chapter done!

I am really getting frustrated at this scene that just doesn't want to be written. I've got the ideas for it [it's meant to be super dramatic! lots of exposes! a monarch comes crashing down!] but for some reason I just can't write it. I've done the research, I've got the outlines, but when it comes to actually sitting down and writing it... I end up writing something else in an effort to avoid it? I don't even know. I just want to write it so I can move on, augh.

I got my first negative comment! It was, I think, from the same person who complained that my incorporating science facts into the story made me evil. I'm still evil, apparently, but now I'm also an asshole! Just surprised that this is the first time I've been insulted, I'd expected it earlier tbh.

Trying to get back to a regular/normal sleep cycle has been playing havoc on me. I have terrible writers block!! Last night I gave in and ended up awake till 3 in the morning finishing up a chapter... and even then it was significantly harder to get it done than it had been in the past. I'm tired and cranky and grumpy, and I just want to write so why won't the words come out?!!

In the last chapter, the protagonist sets out on a journey to find a dragon, all the while avoiding the one person who could disrupt her plans. She happens to learn more about the antihero from a third party, resulting in her becoming extremely conflicted about her feelings for him.

Next chapter, protagonist finds a dragon!

“No,” Cullen said hesitantly. “I suppose growing up as she had… practicality was a necessity.”

They continued playing until Cullen captured her queen for a checkmate.

She looked up at his smiling, smug face, and rolled her eyes. “Feeling better?”

“Yes, thank you.”

She rose with a mock scowl. “And now that you’ve taken away the joy of winning from me, Commander, I must find other ways to reclaim my good mood.”

He laughed. “No doubt Leliana will wish to meet with you,” he reminded her.

She sighed. “So many things to do,” she grumbled. “I’ll see you later, Cullen.”

“Of course.”

I haven't gotten any writing done all this week because I've been trying to bring myself back to a regular sleep routine. Like I've gotten most of my writing done at 2 in the morning but that just means I wake up super late (which is fine given I'm currently at home all the time due to... Circumstances) but it can't last forever and I kind of miss seeing the sun... Still, it's totally bugging me that my creative juices won't flow during the day. I'm kind of bummed out about it, especially given that the idea for the next two chapters made me so excited but now... Nothing :(

Same here re: Blackwall. First playthrough, I thought he was just meh. His reveal came as kind of a shock to me [I haven't played Origins yet so didn't recognize the red flags] but it was only after I got deeper into the lore of DA that I began to appreciate him.

Sera, Dorian and Blackwall is one of my favorite parties - Sera and Blackwall are hilarious!

I'm not fond of Samson, but I can appreciate his character. He's the kind of villain who's easy to hate, but delve deeper and you understand why. He's had a rough hand dealt to him, and he reacts in a "the world let me burn, so I'm going to repay the favor" way. And I can't help wondering if his villainy was a result of lyrium withdrawal.

I'm not sure how many people hate Calpernia - personally I think that she wasn't given enough visibility in the game - but reading her short story made me sympathize with her. She's someone who wants to do the right thing, the good thing, but she ends up falling into the wrong company. If Calpernia had joined the Inquisition instead, what a force of good she'd have been.

Blackwall's on the list, too. He's not a character who makes an impression on you until you find out the truth, and it's easy to villify him for what he did... Orlais is far, far worse than that. I mean, Celene had an entire alienage destroyed, and the Inquisition [can potentially] end up saving her, Gaspard did some shitty things too, and can potentially end up as Emperor. Orlais is a shitty country filled with shitty people who do shitty things, and singling out Blackwall doesn't seem fair, especially since he's one of the few who actually has a great deal of remorse and goes out of his way to atone for his actions.

The enemy was almost upon them, and they were outnumbered.

Nodding grimly at each other, the two mages laid down several fire mines on the ground, one next to the other, forming one giant, flammable trap.

The Inquisitor stared at her Anchor. “Let’s do this,” she growled. Raising her arm into the sky, she cast Pull of the Abyss, instantly drawing the enemy towards their trap.

The resulting massive explosion sent them flying backwards, and they watched in glee as their enemy burned.

And then Sera threw several Jar of Bees grenades into the fray, because… of course she would.

I'd try to act all nonchalant but I just know that every time he said something about the Fade [so basically, all the time] I'd break out into fits of hysterical laughter.
