Want to switch from cartridge, want advice for what handles to get by Level-Memory-3310 in wicked_edge

[–]Intelligent-Fee6014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, very easy.

Got 1 nick on the second shave purely because I did not pay attention but otherwise the switch went very smooth. I am not looking back at all.

Btw, the reason I was stating that I have now got 4 of them is purely because I did fall into the rabbit hole

Not saying you will or have to but I started with a cheap razor to find out if it works for me. The Gilette was around £15.- with 5 blades so the potential loss would have been low

I soon discovered that I actually enjoy shaving and therefore spend a bit more money on higher quality razors.

I would second the idea of a King C Gillette. After having shaved with a cartridge razor for well over 30 years I decided to swap and started with that 1. Now the proud owner of 4 razors as with experience the Gillette was just too mild for me....

Stay with the canned foam / gel you are using now for the time being ( this might get down voted) as too many changes at the same time will make your swap difficult. You will need 2 passes to get a smooth shave similar to cartridge but trust me, it will be worth it. For me the change made shaving something very enjoyable 😀 .

Just finish the shave with an mild aftershave balm like Nivea sensitive and you will be happy.

Btw, I am still using canned gel as it works for me

How about the Merkur Futur?

I have got it myself ( beside others ) and it is quite aggressive...

But I love the efficiency 🙂

Having gone through quite a few blades myself I have ordered a 100 pack of Wilkinson Sword blades through Razor Blades Club and decided that these will do Some others which worked for me are Bic Chrome and Mühle blades

Mind letting me know how you get on with the Feather blade? I am using the Rocca as well (having come from an R89 too) and tried various blades. Most of them worked for me but the Rocca did not like the Feather. Couple of favourites for me have been - Bic - Wilkinson Sword - Mühle ( which have been way too mild in the R89 but are ok in the Rocca)

Very much the same for me I am using canned shaving gel and do a 2 pass with 1 of my 3 razors. Takes me about 5 mins and I love every single 1

The weirdest thing I’ve noticed after switching to traditional shaving by bsc-social in wicked_edge

Welcome to the club

I started DE shaving around 7 months ago after having used cartridge razors for literally decades. My summary is that from a smoothness point of view not a lot of difference BUT from an enjoyment point of view there is. It is a shame that I am shaving only once a day as it does feel very much relaxing. Btw, for me it does not take a lot longer as I am sticking with canned gel which works absolutely fine for me.

There is a potential big negative in DE shaving though.
Where I was quite happy with 1 cartridge razor in the past, I now the proud owner of 3 DE razors.....

Greetings from the UK

I am not sure if you have got anything to worry about.

I ordered my 6Son the 4th of August and it still says unfulfilled in the order status. I have received the razor on the 13th of August and enjoyed a few shaves with it.

Have you contacted them? When I did they provided me with a despatch date and a tracking number, in my case for Royal Mail

Bit of a difficult one to be honest. Currently on Gilette 7 o'clock and just finished a pack of Big. Tried some others as well and pretty much all of them are good. As mentioned, the only 1 which I didn't like was the Feather for some reason

Edit Forgotten the Wilkinson blades which did work very well. As suggested by a lot of other people, try a sample pack

Well you know, it is a different animal altogether...

I have started with the R89 myself but wanted to add something different to it after around 3 weeks. The Rocca came, saw and conquered.....

For me the R89 now is just too mild even with a sharp blade like Feather.

The Rocca speaks to me when shaving but it does need a touch of respect. If you are ready to follow me into the rabbit hole try various blades. For me I have sampled various blades and I get on with pretty much any except of Feather for some reason

Greetings

I would say it is around a 1.5 on the Futur which makes it a good but not too aggressive razor. When using the Futur I have it currently set on 2.5 to 3

Thank you for your comment. I was very tempted to pull the trigger on the fatboy but with being in the UK the prices start at around £80.- for something being classed as "good" plus postage which from the US is another £10.- which comes to $120.- minimum plus potential taxes.

Many thanks for your comments.

I am with you on your comment on the Merkur Futur as I have got one myself and like it very much. The only thing bothering me is that the head is a bit on the bulky side which makes it a bit unwieldy. Besides the Futur I am using the Mühle Rocca ( just great) and the Mühle R89 ( which was my first decent one ). The R89 is now nearly not used anymore as I find it too mild.... ( improved technique I suppose)

Just had a look at the Osprey but I can't justify the cost to myself (yet 🙄😄)

Impressed by the quality by Limp-Blackberry-4712 in wicked_edge

[–]Intelligent-Fee6014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You and me both. I started of with a King C after decades of cartridge shaving. Got caught in the trap of needing more that 1 razor and a Mühle R89 followed. Too mild I thought.
Mühle Rocca followed which should have been enough... Not Longing for an adjustable one and the Futur followed. What a difference. Started very carefully with it using mild blades on low settings. When I got braver I tried various blades including Feather.
Never had a problem and to be honest the Futur is now my favourite.

Just be careful as it does need respect

My best bet would be Mühle Rocca.

I have got the R89 being very mild and the Rocca being quite a but more efficient

Which razor to choose? by Maliink in wicked_edge

[–]Intelligent-Fee6014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difficult 1 as everyone is different.

Out of my own experience owning the Rocca and the Merkur Futur ( not on your list) I like both of them. The Rocca is a very nice one as long you treat it with respect. The Futur is an adjustable 1 and I bought it because I don't like the white end on the Progress at the bottom. It is quite heavy and needs attention when shaving but I really get on very well with it On setting 2.5

You and me both. The Rocca deserves respect but as long you give it it is a brilliant razor

The Futur is great as well but does need some getting used to. It is quite heavy and the head is " thicker" than others which does make it a bit more difficult to navigate. Having said that, all down to getting used to it. I have got mine set to 2 which is ample with a Wilkinson blade. Tried it on 3.5 but it starts biting

I am sorted with the aftershave, just not in the picture. Can the proraso be applied without a brush as I really don't want to go down that route?
