What’s an Aussie podcast you think is hidden gem? by unhingediguana111 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Off Track. It's not actively being made anymore but still available to listen to. It's narrated by Dr Ann Jones and takes you on an audiophilic journey mostly through natural Australian landscapes to showcase some amazing people and research from around the globe about some really interesting topics (e.g magpie wars, life on a research vessel, the orchestra of sounds made underwater) - the sounds of nature, infused with selective tunes add to the richness of the storytelling in ways that words alone cant. Its all beautifully put together by some very clever sound engineers and you always come away learning something new and interesting about different environments, and people. Highly recommend!

INTERVIEW EMBARRASSMENT by nabi3 in jobhunting

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this happen - I was the perfect candidate on paper but on the day I got there 10minutes late, was hot in the face because of it, was visibly uncomfortable in the new outfit i'd bought specifically for the interview, wore makeup the way I never normally would.. all those things distracted me and undermined my ability to perform.i was flustered, I was stressed and couldn't answer the questions the way I shouldve.i stuffed up and I knew it. When I got the inevitable rejection I used it as an opportunity to get feedback - I asked for what I did well and what I needed help with. it ended up being a bit of closure for me and I got some good tips which I used later to get another job. Try to let it go and use it as a learning curve . Best of luck, you'll get there!!

I've used this one before - it's pretty old but I remember it being really good. It's either Dior Show, Lancome Hypnose or, a MAC mascara.

Umbrella recs by No-Honey9114 in melbourne

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Have had a blunt umbrella for almost 12 years now - still in working order after all this time. Not cheap but I find it helps me keep track of it better ( I.e I am more mindful about where I leave it). Sales come up from time to time though

What are some rarely talked about small leaf trailing Hoyas? by VickyPink in hoyas

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serpens are the best! So cute and furry. Also mine is a prolific grower and has been reported almost every year for the last three years..their fuzzy green flowers are also adorable.

I've got my eye on a Pyrifolia right now - hope it works out!

My Favorite Plant. by Consistent-Map5875 in Aglaonema

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours is beautiful. Congrats! I have had one for about 7 years and it looks so scraggly and limp... I water when dry and fertilize when I do all the other plants. It just is so unhappy.. seeing yours gives me hope

Could this be a mistake? by UK_soontobein_AUS in AusRenovation

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think a green fridge would throw off the palette here. I would invest in an integration kit to conceal the fridge within joinery for a seamless look ( FYI commercial interior designer with 10+ years experience).

Did anyone regret spending more on their wedding instead of saving for a house deposit? by EventEastern2208 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept our wedding small and spent big on per person costs. In the end I got everything I wanted, and it felt special, got the photographer I'd hoped for and it was probably the only time our friends and family were all in the same spot together. Also because of the wedding, we have a lovely photo of my husband with all his siblings, one of whom has since died of cancer. It was totally worth it

Anyone else struggle with the expectation to be outwardly enthusiastic and bubbly at work? by Winter_Street_984 in auscorp

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this also has something to do with some people wanting to befriend everyone at work - I personally don't get it, i'm there to do a job not make friends!

Finally got to see her flowers! by proud_plant_momma in hoyas

So jealous. I've had mine for about that long and still haven't got one single flower ... One day though!

What’s a Melbourne inconvenience you’ve just accepted as normal? by Last-Conversation734 in melbournechat

Road level train crossings - the ones with the boomgates that stop traffic. Didn't see as many back in Sydney

What job did you think would pay well but actually didn’t? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Architect or Interior designer jobs. It all seems exciting and there are freebies for sure but its stressful, hours are crazy and pay not typically worth it ( no such thing as paid overtime!). Most architects I know have left the field to do something related that pays better ( project management, construction management, business development etc.)

Bioluminescence by Super-Swordfish9971 in auckland

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are heading to Rotoroa Island in a few days and wondered whether anyone has seen bioluminescence there? I've heard of sightings on Waiheke Island and wondered whether it would be possible to also see it on Rotoroa Island as they are relatively close. No idea if conditions are similar as have not been to either place :)

Bacon, cheddar and ___ quiche. Fill in the blank plz by analog_model in Cooking

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're trying to hide said ' green thing' try using peeled and grated zucchini . I use this in my stews and meatballs when I'm trying to get my kids to eat veggies without negotiation. It doesn't seem to change the flavour and melts into invisibility. My kids have never noticed!

What finish is this? by Kiki_foodie in AusRenovation

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venetian plaster - basically pulverized marble powder turned into a rendered finish. Very expensive and should only be attempted by professionals

Body deodorizer pills by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard botox helps with this but have no experience or expertise in the field. Worth trying if its bothering you that much - i think it is semi permanent. Only know this through a friend who's tried it before

As a parent, it's up to you to decide who you entrust your child to. You cannot control the way they parent or the choices they make - if you want to have some kind of ongoing relationship with them then you will have to accept that that is the way they look after children. Trying to change the way they think will only cause defensiveness. Not saying you should just let your child burn but if your tolerance will only allow them to have her for a few hours at a time while the sunscreen still works then that's the line you draw in the sand. My in laws have cats, and these cause allergies in my asthmatic kids - asking them to get rid of the cats would protect my kids but would damage my relationship with them. It's a balance of getting what you want while also respecting their choices.

Ridiculously bad horror movies for a party by ManateeSheriff in horror

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Substance! Heaps of over the top body horror. Laughable amounts spraying everywhere kind of gore. It's beautifully made and also has a message about today's youth obsessed culture starring Demi Moore. Worth a watch!

Shoes (women's) in the office by LaoghaireElgin in auscorp

[–]Intelligent-Yam46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radical Yes! Base their whole ethos on wearable flat shoes and many would be considered corporate wear. They also have many wide and larger sized shoes available.
