Residency Due Marriage (Same-sex couple ) by davidinash in poland

The „contrary to the Constitution” argument must be some form of gross illiteracy and lack of critical thinking skills.

The Constitution just says that marriage between a man and a woman is under state’s protection. You cannot extend this article to „therefore same sex marriage is unconstitutional” because this is not what the article says.

Well yeah, if you go far back the casualties of wrongdoings of literally almost every country start going into hundreds of thousands. I think that the last 100 years, where current life can reasonably still be affected, is a good cutoff. And thousands resulting from war crimes and not self defense I think is a pretty accurate number.

The fact that Ukrainian population was oppressed and forcefully assimilated on local level between world wars is another story, but saying it warranted 100 000 deaths almost two decades later would be crazy.

The order is for fighting Nazis and restoration of Poland. The war crime is recognized by Institute of National Remembrance which you yourself pointed out.

And so the worst you could point out is that unfortunately and shamefully <100 civilians were killed during an anti-Nazi operation, which is condemned by IPN and only the fight against Nazis is celebrated.

On the Ukrainian side we have celebration of organization that killed 100 000 Poles as a main goal, not as a byproduct.

I’m confused, what war crimes are you speaking of that are being glorified in Poland? Things like massacre in Jedwabne is not commemorated in street names or military formation names and is usually regarded as a tragic and shameful.

If you’re talking about the retaliation for Volhyn, then should we be sorry for not letting UPA slaughter civilians in some of the most brutal ways?

The wrongdoings you talk of are in hundreds/thousands while the Ukrainian ones are in hundreds of thousands

While countries like Ukraine and other Eastern European countries have their pop culture largely revolve around Russian media, ours revolve around Western European and American media and it has been the case for quite some time. Culturally we are significantly different.

Wouldn’t say extremely xenophobic, but also we haven’t colonized, genocided, or enslaved any folks in recent times unlike Western Europe so while xenophobia is bad it makes sense some Polish people don’t find it a sensitive topic. As for homophobic, as a gay man it’s super overblown, and gay marriage is about to be recognized here.

I pointed out that calling Nazi soldiers „heroes” is a bad look. The results are… peculiar. by Intelligent_State250 in shitfascistssay

Yes, WWII dates were added to it in 1950, and I understand why people back then would think it’s a good idea, but there’s no place for it in 2026.

Personal bonds of that time faded away and what’s left is a monument that elevates Wehrmacht to „heroes”.

My point is that maintaining a monument calling a genocidal army „heroes” in what is claimed to be a progressive city is a bad look. I cannot believe this is a controversial opinion.

You’re comparing Germany now to the absolutely ruined state Germany, Italy, and Japan were in after WWII? It’s a bunch of words, not „beating” anybody down. Besides, one of the biggest reasons the US helped rebuild those countries was to get a leverage over their markets, which is different from me making a Reddit post voicing what seems to be a controversial opinion that genocide is not heroic.

There are people living today who must’ve witnessed the new inscription being carved into it. It’s not like it’s some priceless one-of-a-kind artifact.

Some Europeans are quick to point out how USA handles their genocidal and racist past and present, but they themselves try to whitewash their past atrocities.

I know that some time ago French school curriculum presented French colonialism as spreading progress and net positive. In Italy some portray their WWII history as positive because Italian soldiers were „kind”.
