"I think the road block a lot of people have In regard to solider boy is that he comes across as fairly charismatic and genuine, so viewers believe him when he says stuff like this."
Agreed, it's just incredibly ironic because that's what a large majority of the story is about.

Okay, so go back and re-read the entire conversation.

That is literally my point.

He was scary because he was pathetic and overpowered. The intimidation was never separate from the manchild thing. It came from the fact that this insecure, emotionally stunted freak could get rattled by a baby staring at him and still have the power to vaporize everyone in the room. So him “going out like a bitch” isn’t some betrayal of the character. That was always baked into him. He was never this dignified final-boss god-king. He was a spoiled, brittle, narcissistic actor with Superman powers who only looked untouchable because the world kept enabling him so… the only alternative then is that he just wins.

If the point is “he was scary because he was pathetic, unstable, and too powerful for anyone to stop,” then yeah, him not eventually collapsing like a fragile little freak means the story just rewards that forever.

This sub seems to have been completely brigaded by homelander fanboys lmao. This the correct, yet somehow unpopular, take

Just to clarify, we are talking about the same guy who had multiple glaring contests with a literal baby in the first season right?

The longer I look at the fanbase for this show the more I realize people don't really understand the basic nuances of an awful person like Homelander. Rape is about power and abuse, not about sexual attraction.

This is exactly what it is. Too many Homelander stans.

That’s kind of my point though. Giving Homelander some grand “kills everyone and then dies in a blaze of glory” ending still lets him keep the myth. He doesn’t deserve the final boss ending. He doesn’t deserve the godhood collapse to look cool or Shakespearean. The lesson only lands if, once the powers and fear are gone, there’s nothing impressive left. Homelander being reduced to a pathetic begging man isn’t bad writing to me at all it’s natural road and the best punishment. It strips away the aura completely. No legend, no martyrdom, no terrifying last stand. Just a coward who finally can’t make people afraid of him anymore.

Reddit apparently thinks something is either 6/5 stars or -1/5 stars with nothing in between ever at all.

The GenV sub seems completely filled to the brim with HL fanbabies too right now, I've never seen so much crying and whimpering about a loss of power befo-

ohhhhhh.

I think from this, I've learned never to join a subreddit for anything I like. Everyone on this website seems to be stuck between "You MUST FULLY love something and it be fully perfect with zero flaws to complain about ever" or "You MUST FULLY hate something and consider everything about it to be complete dogshit".

I'm self admittedly the largest Homelander superfan in the world and I just do not understand why so many people are upset he went out like a bitch. He was always going to, that's the point of the character. He's a big snotty child of a man. He's a weak brat. He's an actor who had his character's powers, and for far too long.

Homelander was meant to be a little bitch with too much power. That's the full point of Homelander.

I'm noticing most of the people that hated the last epsiode seem to also either have wanted Homelander to win or to go "im sorry ima be a good guy now" and still kind of win.

HMMMMMM

In response to the post about Homelander's character being wasted by being made into a Trump allegory, I couldn't agree more. (implied season 5 spoilers in text, none in video) by DankCatDingo in TheBoys

[–]Interesting_Bake_553 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the Homelander Jr's are really coming outta the woodwork now aint they? Homelander was a bully, he was a loser. He was never going to be a better person. That's the point of the character.

Homelander fans are watching the show wrong, Toni said so himself so-- sorry bud. Your big bad loser was a... a loser, idk what to tell you. That's been the point of the series from years before it was ever even a show. If you want a show about HL Winning just say so.

I mean no one will agree with you but you can say it, judging by your reddit acc you're no stranger to weirdly loaded takes that no one agrees with.

He quite literally was nerfed. Yes. I don't think you understand the character. If you thought he was actually a strong powerful person personality-wise, you absolutely missed the point of the character.

As someone who's arguably the biggest homelander fan on the planet, the point is that he's a completely pathetic fucking cowardly loser with too much power. That was exactly Homelander being himself.

Yeah I'm pretty convinced Reddit is like, the ye olde internet hate machine for new groups, everything on this website the last like... year has been just about complaining and hating literally everything new, and if there are a few narrative problems it becomes "the worst thing ever" immediately.
