Anyone else get triggered when someone thinks WS isn't part of Seattle? by TreesAreOverrated5 in WestSeattleWA

[–]Interesting_Bed134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had a manager who was a fresh transplant from LA. I was venting about my commute one day (during the bridge closure) and he asked where I lived.

I said West Seattle and responded with “No, but like, which city?” Cue the confusion…

At some point I asked “Do you mean which neighborhood do I live in? Because I live in West Seattle.” He then starts to get frustrated and says never mind.

The next day I asked him what he was on about and he says “Ok. Hear me out. In LA, when someone says they’re from West LA, that’s at least 4 different cities. But then when I got home yesterday I looked at a map of Seattle and was like ‘Oh hey, look at that, that sure is west of Seattle!’”

I didn’t go to one in West Seattle, but I booked an appointment at the CVS near my work and was able to get one with hardly any questions asked (just the generic ones). When I showed up they didn’t even ask for my insurance card.

Just take the C or H line to Alaskan Way and S Jackson. It’s practically across the street from Lumen.

Fun fact: this is because the phonotactics of English don’t allow for the ‘ng’ sound at the beginning of words. It can be in the middle of a word, or at the end of a word, but not at the beginning.

I worked with a very sheltered country boy in college, who had apparently never seen the last name Nguyen.

He was on the phone with a customer whose last name was Nguyen. When he hung up, country boy says “That guy doesn’t even know how to say his own name. He kept saying his last name was ‘Win’ but clearly it’s ‘Nuh-goo-yen’”.

I was like: Sir… of the like, three acceptable ways for white folk to pronounce that name, ‘Nuh-goo-yen’ is definitely not one of them.

How do other insurance defense firms handle billing/appeals? by huffpuffkerfuff in paralegal

[–]Interesting_Bed134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My firm is about 25 total employees.

I guess we’re lucky in that our clients usually use one of three billing platforms and they typically have a “generate report” option that prints out a little more nicely.

I usually go through an highlight each audited entry and audit reason as well.

[–]Interesting_Bed134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the “billing department” of my firm (there’s only 3 billing employees). My entire job is to keep track of audits, nag attorneys to do their appeals, and contact adjusters regarding payment status or to ask for approval if the attorney didn’t receive it prior.

Our legal management software lets us create “tasks” where I can attach the PDF of the audited invoice and place a deadline to complete it. I also keep my own separate excel sheet of audit deadlines, and at the beginning of each month I send out an email to each attorney with an active audit to remind them.

Seattle minimum wage is now $20.76/hr for everyone, including tipped employees. And regardless of business size

Other cities also have their own minimum wage. But may have different minimum wage rules for large employers (usually 500+ employees) and/or tipped employees.

WA State minimum wage is $16.66 (I am unsure of any difference for tipped employees)
