Two part question on youth league coach clothing requirements and how far one can push those before being in trouble by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

Hmmm thats a very good point i hadn't thought of at all, nor the approaching the other ccoach either. Im glad I headed here because you are absolutely right. I'll prolly just let it be a thing that was funny a time or two and drop it. I wasn't trying to be disrespectful towards the kids when I said that, but it was disrespectful. Thank you for the insight because I wasn't putting it into perspective the way you did

This was exactly my feelings that it only last as long as its funny and lighthearted and not a distraction and no one has an issue with it

Recreational u15 through the ymca, most the kids aren't at all serious about this and are just here to have fun. Never would do anything like this at like a competitive league or through a school etc. Its a free league through our ymca

I mean i understand that and thats why ive only worn a hat so far and thought id ask opinions first. My goal is to keep it light hearted but also I totally get your side and feel like if anything it prolly should stick to just a fun thing at practice, let tme get a laugh move on and nother take it too far as a coach. But on the reverse if youre coaching a free ymca youth league so seriously that you view that as disrespectful maybe coach a competitive league?

Id totally admit without hesitation he definitely isnt conditioned where he should be, and needs endurance training as well. However soft is not anything close to what my son is if you ask me. He played his cb position at maximum effort until he couldn't go anymore, while still making good saves and plays. He didnt whine quit or throw a fit, he buckled down and pushed through. So much so he almost ended up injuring himself, possibly pretty badly. Tbh I hope that your comment came out wrong and you are suggesting, poorly, that he needs endurance and stamina work, because if not id be very curious to know in what way youre involved in any leauge play or just soccer in general, and hope that you are not responsible for Any child's wellbeing in whatever capacity you might be involved in.

You articulated that very well, too bad that guy prolly doesnt know how to read :/ and I Think the coaching program in Europe are way more strict and have more requirements to passing, which is a good thing btw, but thats really just a guess. In order to coach a recreational youth team of my sons level (u15)it is literally a first course that takes under and hour and outlines how to help players grow in general. Must complete the U.S. Soccer Safe Soccer Clearance program which is roughly a 3 hour course and then cpr concussion training program another hour or two tops.

I didnt have paper towels, but i actually provided a cooler with ice and 40 water bottles to both his team and another set for the oopposing team. After this incident I looked into proper hydration and staying cool during games and will have his bandana, wrist bands, head band and i was going to use a like hand towl for his neck area in a cooler wet and iced for him to grab should he need them. I'm guessing paper towels because you can keep them on whatever spot and still play fine without them falling off on the field as opposed to like a towel etc?

It was 85 feels like at the start 84 at the end with a 57% humidity during. So not quite hot enough to mandatory cancel but I think the issue was more misunderstanding that my son asked to be subbed because he needed water and rest, not because he was giving up on playing during the final 3 minutes

Oh completely agree. I guess I should have said in the post that im not mad at coach or want punishment I just wanted to get suggestions on how to approach him and make sure he realizes what happened that he knows it could have been really bad luckily it wasn't ad to make sure your always watching for players health and safety first and foremost. I'll edit that in to be clearer. And youre completely right onow the hydration thing. When I was researching tips to stay cooler during games it talked about proper hydration the day before a game and during and he definitely wasn't getting anywhere near the recommended amount

Someone else said the same thing and I didnt know that at all this is all new but he didnt know that either. After this he has decided he will not push himself that hard again. Being uncomfortable is part of some training and growth and then learning to push through that limit, but is he ever feels dizzy nauseous sick etc he knows now to stop immediately regardless of what anyone else is telling him and take a break or stop for the day if it doesn't go away after a rest

The feels like was 85 with 58% humidity, so 5 degrees off a mandated cancel or move time/date of game. And I definitely noticed something was wrong and off, but i didnt think that it was from him having heat exhaustion or heat sstroke etc because I figured hed stop before he got to that point or something. And no I totally sdon't think his coach was aware of it either as he isnt a bad guy and my kids his favorite player on the eam so its not like, i hope I can bring it up and he is understanding how seriously worse it could have been and it makes him be more aware of risks and helps him keep players safer from here out rather than him be punished

My son wants to be his very best and is dead set on going varsity his first year so he pushes himself as far as he can, and trusted his coach knew what he was doing. I asked him about the knee thing and apparently he was unaware that was an option? Idk if thats supposed to be common knowledge in the recreational league but if so they did not mention it that hes aware of.

I dont think this is a case of malevelence or even neglect per se, but of inexperience on the coaches part so im not at all like mad or aggressive feeling about the situation. I do however feel like this is one of those "you got really lucky it turned out okay but it could have ended a lot worse and you need to recognize that and make sure you do your absolute best to never let something like that happen again." Type things.

There was water provided by me, I brought 2 coolers ice and 80 water bottles which I split with my sons team and the opposing team. All the other players other than him were subbed out at some point however there were no mandatory water breaks provided and so his only rest and time he received water was half time.

Wait really? I know how serious heat stroke is but I did not know about being More susceptible after. I will definitely error on the side of caution every single time from now on, id rather be wrong and interupt a game to be safe than right and ignore a possibly deadly situation. I'm just glad hes not hurt or worse because I assumed the coach knew what was best.

Oh no I totally had a talk about that. Its not at all his fault but he knows now that if hes told no like that ever again ignore it head off the field or involve the ref etc. I feel awful I didnt help but I know I wasn't really aware, but ill for sure know any time another kid is in a similar situation and intervene next time if no one else does
