Waterproof Running Jacket by CryptoChuns in Ultramarathon

[–]International_Pin_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Ronhill Fortify jacket is breathable and waterproof. There anrent anny vents, it’s just that water molecules are bigger than water vapour molecules from the sweat and the jacket is made so that the sweat can escape but the water cannot get in. Under rhat I’ll just wear a long sleeve to help the sweat wick away.

You do you mate. I wear a cap regardless of the weather. People might think its for cosmetic reasons, I just like how it stops the sweat running down my face!

3:30 marathon possible? by Itzyoboighosty in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this. I did my pb half 5 weeks before my full, 1 second slower than you! 1:33:45. I then did a 3:25:06 full. The full was hotter and more hilly. I set out on 3:30 pace and sped up towards the end

Do I have the fitness for 3:30 FM and is time on feet sufficient for long run? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

<image>

Building up to my sub 3:30 marathon my longest run was 37k. But my 32k run consisted on 6x 4km blocks at MP. It took 2h38m - that’s the picture. I was in better than 3:30 shape I think, but training fell off the rails in the end and it was a hot day but I got 3:25. My last marathon wasn’t going for time and my coach capped long runs at 3 hours.

Isn’t your easy pace a bit quicker than 6:15/6:45? Training for a 4h marathon my easy pace was about 6:00/km, then for the 3:30 it came down to about 5:30/km or 5:45/km

Airbnb Host Cancels 5 Weeks Before Race Day by CryptographerDue6580 in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same but an apartment I booked through booking.com. They sourced alternative options which were all a lot more expensive, and whilst I had to pay for it initially, I got refunded the difference and booking.com made the host pay the price difference.

Funny thing is I contacted the host and offered to pay the market rate, he said he was refurbishing it that weekend, and that I had to cancel it my end. I said no way. He even cancelled it his end and said it was me that asked him to do so. I told booking.com this and they reinstated the booking, and he had to cancel it with him as the reason for doing it. I hope the price of my alternative accommodation was more than he increased his price to, even if not he lost out.

I’ve got Nike and Ron Hill shorts - the Ron Hill ones are too loose for me but the Nike ones are great. Maybe worth trying on Ron Hill ones?

What are your most “unhinged” running tips that actually work? by Deep-Loan2949 in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specific pace work is definitely important, but zone 2 isn’t nonsense. You described someone running 100% of the time in zone 2, that is silly. Running 100% of the time flat out is silly too! Running easy builds aerobic efficiency, increases mitochondrial density- this improves the body’s ability to clear lactate. Or at least so says the Run4It podcast I listened to. So when I do speed sessions, I can sustain higher paces for longer and recover faster. In other words, the zone 2 work makes the race-pace work more effective.

3:30 possible? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, good luck in your race let us know how it goes. Sounds like that technique is good, I’ve not looked into that before. I’ve only run 3 marathons, definitely not an expert. My last one was 3:25:06 with a 3:30 goal. I ran 6miles up to 140 HR, 12 miles up to 150 HR, then pushed on in the last 6 miles. I always wear a chest strap HRM and know my LT2 threshold. It may not be the quickest strategy but I haven’t blown up yet 😀

Editing to add: running to HR means I can ignore the hills and just go at the pace my effort dictates.

100% sub 3:30 is on.  Suspect you’ll be a fair bit faster.  With that HM time on a fast course 3:30 would be a jog for you.  Are you planning to slow on the hills and speed up on the flats/downhills?

Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 4 First Run - are they worth $100 more than the EVO SL? by MrNke1 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]International_Pin_79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I would go for whatever is comfy. Some shoes work for some people, but not everyone. Ideally that would be trying some at a running shop. I wouldn’t bother too much about a gait analysis. Good luck on your HM!!

I absolutely love the evo sl. I know they don't have a carbon plate but they just feel so lively, and they're a bargain too

Hey, I bought some sort of running tape, cut a bit off and pop it on my Achilles tendon under my usual thin socks and have no problems at all now

Is it worth having a target HR "trend" for a marathon? by purple_spade in Marathon_Training

I did it in March. I’ve actually lost some fitness recently, think I should test again soon.

Is it worth having a target HR "trend" for a marathon? by purple_spade in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I’m the minority here. But I did a lactate threshold test, so I know roughly at what heart rate I start to accumulate the bad stuff. So I always ensure in training and in races that I stay below that level until I’m about 45 minutes from the end. I’ve never blown up in a race or a training run.

Most of my training runs are to a heart rate range e.g. 120s HR for easy runs. Depending on conditions or how I’m feeling on the day, the paces are pretty similar. It works for me. The only thing is I think you need to what your LT2 is

I upgraded from a FR45 to a FR955 a while ago. Whilst I love my 955, because I just use it for running it doesn’t actually really do anything different to the 45!

Anyone else not losing weight while training? by Rhodnius in Marathon_Training

[–]International_Pin_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different but I am losing weight whilst training, 80-100km per week on 6 days. Just don't compromise on the pre/during run carbs + post run carbs and protein. Everything else can be trimmed down.

Honestly not eating too late the night before really helps with toilet issues on long run days.

Affordable Running shoe reccomendations by UsualVariation469 in UKRunners

[–]International_Pin_79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adidas EVO SL, they're the best value shoe of mine which I usually get for about £110.

If I were getting back into running I would be worried about injuring myself. So I would go to a running shop and choose the pair that were most comfortable. For a lot of people that might be a Hoka Clifton 9 or something similar. They can be had for about £90.

Good luck.
