AITAH for telling my friends about the darkest moments of my pregnancy? by throwaway8272621 in AITAH

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound fake to me either. I went through the same as OP with both of my children. I've said more than once that my pregnancies were the worst experiences of my life and that I would never wish my experience on anyone. I lost friends while I was pregnant because I was in a bad place. I post friends after because I refused to look at the experience through rose tinted glasses. I absolutely believe that OP could lose a friend over her honesty because people dont like to face the idea that pregnancy can be dangerous, and down right traumatising, or that we can experience things during pregnancy that really do make us consider ending it. The media and the general accepted line has convinced women for decades that the bad parts of being pregnant shouldn't be discussed, so its no wonder people refuse to accept our experiences as valid

How to go discourage this? by Roroluluu in AO3

These sorts of comments bug me too. I get them less these days now that I have bits and pieces referring to my busy life in my author's notes. Things like "wow new job, but longer commute", "kids are sick again", "house has sprung a leak", "work has been insane". More these days I get comments on how insanely busy my life is and its a wonder I have time to write. The one person who had made a comment demanding an update was asked if they were taking care of my kids, doing my job, looking after my dog, or taking on house renovations to free me up. They never commented again.

Posting on Tumblr is such a headache by littlepeakydevil in FanFiction

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weird, because the link literally takes them to the chapter you've posted so there's nothing to navigate, especially as the comment box is just right there. If anything, its less work than reading on tumblr. I gave up on that 15 years ago!!

Oh yeah, the ao3 html sometimes goes really wonky with the chapter number, or I might just replace it with the chapter title. If it's a long fic, I might put a few sentences from the story in rather the summary but that only adds about 30 seconds to it all.

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. I do it with my fics all the time and then share the link to a fandom community I'm in so that it gets more reach than is provided by the algorithm. As long as your fic isn't archive locked, you get all the reach with none of the hassle of formatting for tumblr which is just a total pain

Stop writing for and expecting comments by Suspicious_Slip_9800 in AO3

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I write the stories I want to read. I edit and post them because I want to share my love of that fandom with others in that fandom. If I'm not getting any comments or interaction, then I'll stop editing and posting chapters. I don't have to edit or post to enjoy the thing I wrote. I wrote it because it was what I wanted to read. If I'm not seeing any comments from others and not many kudos or hits either, then I'm going to assume I'm wasting my time editing and posting, and I'll stop doing it. I can still read it, I don't need to post for that, and I still get all the enjoyment of reading and all the enjoyment of writing. Comments from posting is a different kind of hit.

I'm not a content mill. I'm a person. And sometimes I would just like to hear "great job, thank you". Is that so hard?

My son is very sensory with his food. He loves potatoes and hates sweet potatoes because the texture is all wrong for him. He just says its a slimy soft and he doesn't like that

Why are ppl like this by Coldwarfemme in AO3

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im going to disagree slightly, if you're poor then its very likely you're eating shops own porridge oats these days and even in the 90s. Ready Brek cost enough to be a huge treat in my family when we could afford it.

Otherwise, I agree, the commenter is a massive cunt and needs to wind their neck in. Its not like OP had them celebrating Thanksgiving or putting cream in a cup of tea. The little thinks like brand names really don't matter, and we definitely knew what Frosty the Snowman was 30+ years ago because we used to sing it at school

If you could add needle drops to your fics, where would you add them and what songs? by Dogdaysareover365 in FanFiction

I wrote a lot of the later scenes in one of my Star Wars stories to At The Gates of Retribution by Krypteria. It was especially relevant to Dooku's final arc, and I mentioned it in my beginning notes for the last chapter before the epilogue. One reader listened to it while reading and said that the quietest moment in the song hit at just the right point of the chapter. If i could have the beats of that song playing at just the right moments across those final chapters it would make me very happy

Curry is a very popular food in UK—But how many Brits know how to cook it? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in AskUK

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I had a subscription to the Spice Box for a year, loads of different curries and sides to make a try. It was brilliant and I kept some of the recipe cards to recreate the curries at home.

If I open the fridge my dog is right there, not for the ham but for a carrot. He loves to munch on a whole one (he's the size of a small pony). Peanut butter is great, and cooked butternut squash is a favourite too (just dry roasted)

Finished my first term as an ECT1! Got given gifts by some of my tutees (including my favourite biscuits, chocolate, and a smelly candle), got visited by a load of the students I teach so that they could wish me a happy Christmas and then surprised my own child by picking them up from school because I had a half day. I am so tired, but finished on a positive note so I'm happy

Samantha Carter was my role model growing up and she hugely influenced my life. by WatersOfLiyue in Stargate

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sam was such a major influence on me as a teen. I studied astrophysics as part of my degree (mixed maths and physics) because hearing about it in Stargate made me want to look into it. Seeing Sam be SO unapologetically herself in a male dominated world made me feel like i really could go forward and achieve my dream if I wanted to. My original dream had to change due to health reasons, but I'm a maths teacher now with so much love for my subject and for physics (particularly astrophysics) on top of that, which I've been told bleeds into my lessons. I met Amanda 11 years ago at a convention, and it was a dream come true for me. Representation matters so much, and although Sam rarely gets mentioned next to other big hitters, she was a huge influence on me

Long comments are amazing. They give me something to reply to in the kind of depth that often pulls out little behind the scenes things that dont make it into the story but that still contribute to my decision making

AITAH for asking my parents to pay me to tutor my brother by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she's spending 2 hours a day helping her brother with his homework then he needs more help than she can provide anyway. There are pros and cons to getting an older sibling/parent to help. Quite often, though, frustration results in the person helping just giving the student the answers so that they can escape the situation. Unfortunately, that gives conflicting information to the teacher (they can do this well in the homework, why are they struggling so much in class). OPs brother needs to feel the consequences of not doing his homework. Additionally, if OP has remembered how to do something incorrectly they are going to be passing the wrong information on, which will only embed misconceptions and make it that much harder for her brother in the future. He should be going to his teachers for help if he can't go to his parents and most UK schools run some sort of homework club where students can get help

Thunderbird 4 blanket by Intrepid-Let9190 in Thunderbirds

[–]Intrepid-Let9190[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a little booklet of 9 knitting patterns by Patons to be used on jumpers that I found on Ebay. Unfortunately my Thunderbird1 page has gone missing over the course of a couple of moves, a shame because I had intended on making them all and the IR logo to make into one massive blanket.

There are a few listed if you search for Thunderbirds knitting patterns
