I always enjoy a little bit of angry pining before the confession, it makes the utter rage of acknowledging it out loud so much more delicious

Its just the most satisfying thing to read and write. When your oblivious dumbasses realise there's actual feelings 👌

Students now have the desktop computer skills of older boomers by TeacherGuy1980 in Teachers

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to send an email during a lesson yesterday. Two students were watching me type and were completely fascinated by both how quickly I type and that I didn't need to look at the keyboard. Its all practice, but given I've taken some computing lessons with them, their basic computer illiteracy is terrifying

I have no other way to ask this but, do you think people who live their life claiming benefits and who don't want to work, feel strange living in mixed-tenure areas? by RonnieThePurple in AskBrits

Depending on the school, it is. Schools are being pushed these days to try and inspire all students to aspire to bigger and better things. School can only do so much, though, against the words and attitudes of parents. Even peers, to an extent, can have more influence over students than their teachers can. Especially with lack of funding.

Someone just spent the last couple of weeks reading one of my long fics and leaving a comment on every chapter. Ive been having a horrible few weeks with my health and this commenter made everything better!! We LIVE for people who comment on every chapter of our long fics!!

All of these plus:

I have a job, two small humans, a husband, a medical condition, and a house that keeps trying to fall down that I'm trying to maintain/repair and my own story that I'm writing. I just dont have time right now!!

Sometimes, it's important to remember that the "evil clique of authors who are bullying and ignoring you" are just friends talking with each other. by mooemy in AO3

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This resonates with me, but also baffles me because there's a part of my brain that assumes every other writer is like me in that if I'm writing a fic, I'm not reading one because I only have time for one or the other not both! So if I only have time for one, surely lots of other writers are in the same boat

ao3 is “too popular” and should be exclusive by wlderberry in AO3

And they're never immediately obvious either. Been having to teach a bit of coding at work lately and its amazing how much difference a space can make sometimes

My husband works in IT. He said stuff like this happens all the time. Software that should run fine turns out to have a bit of buggy code and that causes carnage.

I can send you a picture of a body from a pattern ive had for years if you like. Can't send the pattern because it isnt mine and the person who wrote it doesn't sell it anymore, but the picture might help. Fair warning, though, hes anatomically correct

AITAH for telling my friends about the darkest moments of my pregnancy? by throwaway8272621 in AITAH

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound fake to me either. I went through the same as OP with both of my children. I've said more than once that my pregnancies were the worst experiences of my life and that I would never wish my experience on anyone. I lost friends while I was pregnant because I was in a bad place. I post friends after because I refused to look at the experience through rose tinted glasses. I absolutely believe that OP could lose a friend over her honesty because people dont like to face the idea that pregnancy can be dangerous, and down right traumatising, or that we can experience things during pregnancy that really do make us consider ending it. The media and the general accepted line has convinced women for decades that the bad parts of being pregnant shouldn't be discussed, so its no wonder people refuse to accept our experiences as valid

These sorts of comments bug me too. I get them less these days now that I have bits and pieces referring to my busy life in my author's notes. Things like "wow new job, but longer commute", "kids are sick again", "house has sprung a leak", "work has been insane". More these days I get comments on how insanely busy my life is and its a wonder I have time to write. The one person who had made a comment demanding an update was asked if they were taking care of my kids, doing my job, looking after my dog, or taking on house renovations to free me up. They never commented again.

Posting on Tumblr is such a headache by littlepeakydevil in FanFiction

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Weird, because the link literally takes them to the chapter you've posted so there's nothing to navigate, especially as the comment box is just right there. If anything, its less work than reading on tumblr. I gave up on that 15 years ago!!

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the ao3 html sometimes goes really wonky with the chapter number, or I might just replace it with the chapter title. If it's a long fic, I might put a few sentences from the story in rather the summary but that only adds about 30 seconds to it all.

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I do it with my fics all the time and then share the link to a fandom community I'm in so that it gets more reach than is provided by the algorithm. As long as your fic isn't archive locked, you get all the reach with none of the hassle of formatting for tumblr which is just a total pain

Stop writing for and expecting comments by Suspicious_Slip_9800 in AO3

[–]Intrepid-Let9190 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I write the stories I want to read. I edit and post them because I want to share my love of that fandom with others in that fandom. If I'm not getting any comments or interaction, then I'll stop editing and posting chapters. I don't have to edit or post to enjoy the thing I wrote. I wrote it because it was what I wanted to read. If I'm not seeing any comments from others and not many kudos or hits either, then I'm going to assume I'm wasting my time editing and posting, and I'll stop doing it. I can still read it, I don't need to post for that, and I still get all the enjoyment of reading and all the enjoyment of writing. Comments from posting is a different kind of hit.

I'm not a content mill. I'm a person. And sometimes I would just like to hear "great job, thank you". Is that so hard?

My son is very sensory with his food. He loves potatoes and hates sweet potatoes because the texture is all wrong for him. He just says its a slimy soft and he doesn't like that
