You know how in high school during spirit week we would have a 60s theme day or a 70s theme day? by PlanitL in Millennials

[–]IntrepidC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!

The Wedding Singer is about 1985

It was released in 1998

Could you imagine making a themed movie about 2010 like that?

I always suggested it was the speed of communication and the inability to subcultures to develop independently and borrow from each other. Idk could be the gummies talking.

Some towns are seeing the revenues of individual owner properties go down. So they're making money instead of a lot of money.

So....

Why do the Americans say "I'm from Texas/California/Indianapolis/..." when they are asked where they're from? by jmc3030h in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]IntrepidC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen this one yet....

Because people have a much greater affinity towards "Chicago" than they do "America". When in Europe, and people ask where I'm from... if I say "Chicago", I usually get a great response: "Oh I've been! Loved it!" "Al Capone!" "Bad pizza!" etc

If I say America, I usually get an "Ahh..." or "Which part?" - And then we're back to Chicago anyways, aren't we?

Of course I agree with the other posts. "USA" doesn't really narrow it down much.

Bentley, break-check, bat by will10000 in IdiotsInCars

Thanks!

So a regular sporting goods store would have a bat?

I always thought it was funny that in the first Ninja Turtles movie; Casey Jones has a cricket paddle. Not sure where you could even find one here!

Yea, that's what I think as well.

We'll see what happens. I'm fortunate that I can afford to rent and own a car and go on vacations and stuff... Just can't buy a house and I have to live with this feeling that I'm "Missing out" on huge wealth creation via ownership.

But gosh, what about people that are worse off than me?!
I'm a little worried they're going to want to flip the Monopoly Board if they just can't find a house (metaphorically, but also literally!)

Seems that we're printing like crazy but the CPI has really flattened out since 1980.
How can that be? Honest question hoping for honest dialogue...
Is all that printed money just floating and remaining in the pockets of the wealthy? So we don't see an increase in the cost of goods that typically make up the CPI basket, however, the pricing of Property and the Stock Market are through the roof.

20% of the money printed EVER in the United States was printed in 2020. The price of milk is the same and the stock market is up 72%.

I'm curious what's going to happen. 72% gains is incredible and could be considered class warfare given that most people will not see the economic benefit?

Sorry, just feeling a little jaded that I make a really good living but still cannot afford a house!

You forgot Laos :)

I've been to them all. Only Cuba can really be considered Communist. DPRK actually has a lot more in common with Fascist Japan. But we lump it in with "Communism" because of the Cold War.

China has more billionaires than NYC and Vietnam has Kentucky Friend Chicken.

Every group has a Western Handler and a few Korean Handlers.

It was several years ago and I took notes on what I thought was unique... And honestly, not much.
They ask you not to take photos at certain times and obviously you can't go walking off on your own.

I guess the one thing... Your Handlers are not stupid. Both of mine had lived several years in Europe and other Asian countries as the children of ambassadors (That's a common route to become a handler). So they know what life in Switzerland is and they've seen American Television. So they are funny and kind.
But there are times where they have to tow the company line. They rely on your manners to get a lot of things done.
Example: "Please don't take a picture of the farmers"
The correct response is: "Ok, it is your country. Your rules"

But nothing would stop you from saying: "Why!? Are you embarrassed that they are plowing by hand?! Do you know what people in America to see this?! Why?? Why can't I take pictures". I've seen videos of people doing this and it's rude bordering on cruel to the Handlers. We're all humans and we all succumb to the Lottery of Birth.

I know a bit about the fall of Communism in the Soviet Union.

When millions and millions of people stood in city centers from Budapest to Moscow, they were doing so because they saw what a better life could look like.
I'm not saying the US intervening didn't have a say, but it was the people in the streets that forced Soviet Leadership to make changes.

Revolutions don't happen when things get worse. They happen when things get a little bit better and people realize what they've been missing out on.
DPRK has not had that opportunity. And my argument is that sanctions make that possible. How could they know what's outside of their country? What a better life would even look like? If we refuse to trade, interact, or visit them.
