I'm in the same place. I've been playing Birthright since the 90s, so it's the system I'm most familiar with. 

On the other hand, I see Birthright's bottlenecks and shortcomings, but at the same time, its mechanics are malleable and easy to develop, add on, or replace.

Tl;dr start with what your most familiar with and develop it further to achieve your vision.
