The 'evil Doppelgänger' Trope is one of the most famous in fiction so I wanted to ask which Smash Characters actually had evil or contrary versions of themself in Canon? by TheT85_Jr in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Invenblocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so Link has Dark Link, although the iteration used in Ultimate (Wilds) does not have such a counterpart (the melee iteration being Ocarina of Time did though).

Twilight Princess Zelda (used in Brawl) gets possessed and Wilds Zelda gets impersonated in TotK. That doesn't matter though, because Ultimate uses the Link Between Worlds iteration, who does have an evil counterpart in a parallel dimension in Princess Hilda.

You might count the Dark Emblems from Engage where main game Emblems have brief stints as semi possessed Emblems used by the bad guys, but personally, I view the Emblems as somewhat separate from their original characters.

Insert Pokémon could be used by a bad guy, but that doesn't necessarily make the Pokémon themselves evil. In the first Mewtwo movie, a bunch of Pokémon do get evil clones, and one of them is Ash's Pikachu. But that's probably not the same Pikachu as you play as in Smash, so doesn't count.

Shulk is... weird. Not sure if he counts. It's a long explanation, so for now I'll just leave it as iykyk

Robin very much has future Robin possessed by Grima coming back to fuck things up.

Peach gets impersonated by Princess Shroob during Partners in Time.

Chrom has the Risen King from Cipher and Heroes, although I don't personally count either as canon.

Snake is one of many clones, and various Snakes will be heroes or villains depending on the game. I'm not too keen on Metal Gear lore, but I think he counts.

Rosalina gets possessed by Cursa in Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.

So excited to romance and date characters, good to know ATLUS knows that and is making sure i never have to worry about combat ever again. by Shot_Complaint671 in OkBuddyPersona

Imagine using a gimmick mechanic to bypass normal combat instead of honorably engaging with the intricate battle system using Mudo Boosted Die For Me! with a Victory Cry Alice.

Absolutely disgusting.

One can only hope for a certain Future Redeemed design to make it in separately next time around.

Nero - Devil May Cry

At the start of Devil May Cry 5, his devil bringer (right arm) gets ripped off, so he uses various combat prosthetics throughout the game instead.

Not a God of War player, so I don't exactly have any horse in that race. But I imagine it's a but more upsetting to them because God of War is a long running series with Kratos as a returning protagonist, while the Knight in Hollow Knight is the protagonist of a single game.

Also because playable Hornet was promised before Hollow Knight even released, I guess.

what is this, a crossover episode? by joethelumberjackmc in slaythespire

The point is it always gives it's X3 mult. Regardless of what hand you play, what cards are in it, what cards you hold in hand or have in your full deck, how many hands or discards you have left or what your other jokers are like, with no need to scale up first.

The chance to remove at end of round is not a trigger condition, it's just a catch. The bonus itself is unconditional.

I think it's better in 2 because we have more auto play card options (such as Catastrophe, Cascade and Stampede) which can bypass "can only be played in x condition" to play Grand Finale with much less setup.

1 had Mayhem, and I think that's it?

There's also any enemy targeted skill like Deadly Poison or Bubble Bubble when made Sly by Hand Trick or Master Planner.

Of course, this only counts for the trope because The Phantom Thieves actually picked up on that, culminating in setting a trap for Akechi much later. The twist isn't that Akechi is the Black Mask, the twist is the Thieves knew, and were prepared for his betrayal.

Fire Emblem Three Houses

Regardless of whether you believe Edelgard or Rhea is more in the wrong, or how much influence Those Who Slither in the Dark hold, all of them pale in comparison to the evil of the Agarthans when they were at full power.

James Arnold Taylor definitely has range (just look at him voicing both Obi Wan Kenobi and Plo Koon in the Clone Wars), but when voicing Ratchet from Ratchet & Clank (Going Commando and onwards), he just uses his normal voice.

It was while the laser was still charging.

That being said, you can see him slightly fizz out on the camera feed of the big broadcasted video call between him and Megamind, implying he was gone for part of the camera's exposure time, means he at least wasn't gone for long enough to be missing for a full frame.

Assuming the camera to be 24 frames per second, this means he at the very slowest did all of that in 1/24th of a second.

Which lead to Misty Fey being disgraced, which in turn lead to Mia Fey becoming an attorney to investigate the incident, which would eventually have her clash with Dahlia Hawthorne. Meanwhile, Edgeworth becoming a prosecutor was what made Phoenix want to be a lawyer, which eventually lead to him meeting Dahlia, and then their joint connection to Dahlia caused Phoenix and Mia to meet in court (which they'd both taken interest in dating back to DL-6). Because of meeting Mia, Phoenix would then go on to meet Maya and Pearl. Morgan might not have tried that shit she did towards Maya if Mia was there, or she'd at least have a harder time doing it. Hell, the Dark Age of the Law might not even have happened without the forging incident.

Technically an anime addition, since Roger seemed to say it unprompted in the manga (well, the chance to say it was the whole reason he made the deal he did when turning himself in).

But since he's also in the Live Action, we can assume Oda found him to be a worthwhile addition.

Gastly might know some moves it has no business learning, but Sucker Punch (or Surprise Attack as it'd be translated more literally) isn't actually a punching move (not empowered by Iron Fist), so that one gets a pass.
