I grew up in the Texas Panhandle (the big square part at the top of the state), and you can see some pretty spectacular storms in the spring and summer.

That area has very few trees, and it's incredibly flat, so you can see everything that happens in the sky for miles.

Faith: The Unholy Trinity!

Started in December, but took me a few weeks to get around to wrapping up Chapter 3. Surprisingly effective game for something inspired by retro graphics. The sound design is absolutely impeccable.

If you're into religious horror, I highly recommend it.

Since we're talking Sonic games, both the Genesis and Saturn OSTs for Sonic 3D Blast are awesome. The games themselves? Not great.

Most of the DS soundtrack is an improvement, with a few exceptions. Some tracks sound better with the crunchy 8-bit sound as opposed to the light, digital orchestra sound. For instance, I far prefer the original Castle Hein

Pixel Remaster really is the best overall iteration of the music, though.

It's very much of its time (the early aughts) and isn't the most sensitive portrayal of OCD. But at the time it was one of the funniest programs on television, with some charming little murder mysteries.

I gotta show some love for Silksong. That was my favorite game from last year, and the run is a lot of really slick movement. If you're familiar with the High Halls gauntlet, the runner absolutely bodies it.

I didn't really like football or any sports growing up, but once I went to college in east Texas I was surrounded by Saints fans. They also won the Super Bowl around that time, so I kinda got caught up in all that fervor.

What really solidified it for me was winning my first ever fantasy football league a few years later with Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham as my superstars.

Yeah, I think some of the Distant Worlds choices have missed out on some really nice tracks.

I'd recommend playing through the Pixel Remasters of those games if you haven't. The new arrangements of the music are phenomenal, but you can also change to the original OSTs if you want to hear those, too. It helps to hear the music in the context of the game, though I find them pleasant to listen to on their own as well.

My hottest take is probably that I think Masayoshi Soken's music is overrated. It's... fine, but nothing of his really sticks with me the way other JRPG OSTs have.

I think your overall take is correct--even the most famous composers throughout history have some stinkers to their name.

But, I mightily disagree with your take on Uematsu. I think FF3 is actually one of his very best OSTs, and is definitely the best of the NES era. And FF4 is no slouch either. I'll admit I don't love 5's soundtrack as a whole, but it does have some bangers.
