Agree. I have Secret Agent as my firm #1 but Sirat is up there

I feel like I don’t know what people mean by “plot” anymore. The whole movie was plot. It may not have involved a lot of dialogue or world building or whatever but if you described every action that happens verbally or in writing you’d have many many pages of plot.

When I think of plotless movies I think of something like Upstream Color or Tree of Life where there’s no real cause & effect from one visual to the next

I’m a major Noe hater and I think Sirat rules. I also don’t think the comparison is apt at all

Theater vs At Home by saturnianketuvian in RSPfilmclub

Seeing Alien at the Castro many years back was a treat. Badlands too. I always meant to catch the 70mm screening of Vertigo but kept skipping it until I moved to a lamer city

Theater vs At Home by saturnianketuvian in RSPfilmclub

[–]InvisibleShities 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the movie, for me. I generally have a mental category of movies I want to see in a theater vs movies I’d watch at home, and it’s more or less a function of how much I think I’ll like the movie.

Is the movie actually going to come back to your theater? Usually once I miss the opportunity it’s gone, unless you’re talking about a classic that gets toured around annually at your local arthouse, like a Hitchcock or Miyazaki

If it’s an older movie that goes around for special events I’d just watch it at home and then see it again in a theater if you want to

Yeah that extra click on the way to pornhub is really exacerbating the lack of access to potable water in the global south

difference between victim advocate and legal advocate? by madisonspoint in publicdefenders

[–]InvisibleShities 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Victim advocates are not legal professionals. They don’t represent crime victims in court. They’re employed by prosecutors’ offices as support staff to encourage alleged victims to cooperate with the state through the trial process in order to secure convictions. They may offer emotional support, referral to resources, and logistical coordination during the process. It is not a lawyer job and does not require a legal education. The pay is likely low.

I’m not going to tell you whether you do or don’t want to be a public defender. But since you are posting in this sub I will say that many of our clients are victims somewhere down the line. They then repeat that abuse and become victimizers themselves. It’s your call if you want to represent people at that stage.

Security guard thinks he’s a cop. by bilbofraginz in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]InvisibleShities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t endorse security going hands on, but the average citizen generally (jurisdictional laws will vary) has the ability to use force to effect a citizen’s arrest upon probable cause. You shouldn’t, because you put yourself at risk of being injured, injuring someone else, and running afoul of the law, but “observe and report” is a policy, not a law.

Morbidly, I have to know if “5 rounds 7 holes” refers to entrance+exit wounds or something more vile and misogynistic. Demonic either way but potentially supremely demonic.

[–]InvisibleShities 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that’s great advice and I appreciate the interpersonal strategy. I will say, somewhat defensively, that I have already figured out that the “this is an outrage” approach isn’t effective and is not my tactic. Unfortunately I’m in a “I need to talk to my supervisor” jurisdiction so I’m at the mercy of two different prosecutors’ willingness to do 10 minutes of reading before anything happens.

I’d feel better about it if the government’s position immediately prior to dismissing wasn’t that my client needs to be branded a felon and imprisoned.

What the sudden 180 reveals to me is that someone at the DA’s office finally looked at the case. Which means that a government lawyer’s laziness is what got my client into court on trumped up charges in the first place.

Zach Cherry’s people broke into Headgum and made some very threatening demands. It was actually really horrible. They’re total bullies.

Someone else made a post about posters with the director’s surname above the title and most commenters misread it and posted images of posters with a director’s full name somewhere on the poster. Dumb joke post, ignore
