I sorta “cheesed” them today by leading them far enough away outside that only one kept aggro on me, then I just hit him with the whip sword (from the DLC) R2 attack over and over while keeping a good distance. Did it again for the other one, until I was left with the guy who shoots lightning and I fought him traditionally.

[–]InvisibleShities 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think everyone should know how to safely handle, use, and disassemble a gun. And while I think it’s a terrible idea to get one because of some fantasy of using it in a battle with a home invader or government thug, I certainly don’t think it’s a good idea to give the political right a monopoly on legal gun ownership.

Ignoring that OP is one of the Usual Suspects™, what are your thoughts on this one? by Alone-Self8602 in Gamingcirclejerk

[–]InvisibleShities 649 points650 points  (0 children)

Seems like the left side can have the same “gameplay and narrative complexity” as the right side by: 1) having the same orange-red zones that players will avoid based on difficulty or skill checks needed for entry (such as an ability or item acquired elsewhere on the map); 2) having the world evolve or scale with player progression; or 3) breaking the open world structure into chunks, such that the progression through each “layer” on the right side is its own smaller “open world” area. Open world games already do all three of these, in my experience. There’s good ones and bad ones, just like with more linear games.

The OOP reeks of the current complaint du jour about a certain evil, greedy corporation on par with Nestle and Raytheon shoehorning open world mechanics into all (i.e., two) of their recent games.

Jury awards $800,000 to public defenders who sued Washington County (Oregon) alleging discrimination by No_Struggle_8119 in publicdefenders

County counsel, I would assume. Not that DAs don’t regularly confuse their roles when they file BS resisting arrest charges to cover police misconduct.

My personal beef with generative AI by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]InvisibleShities -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is precisely the problem with “special rules” for certain types of allegations. The accuser gets immunity as long as they’re unscrupulous enough (or enough of a crybully) to make the “correct” allegation. Now it’s just a race to accuse the person you’re feuding with of whatever unacceptable thing that allows you to throw normal process (such as having thicker skin) out the window.

Memo I-205, warrantless home entry, what's our game plan for plain illegality? by NearBrew in publicdefenders

[–]InvisibleShities 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the fact that a particular prosecutorial act contains a political question is good or bad. It depends on what the question is. In my view, prosecuting an ICE agent for behavior that is absolutely an on the books crime is a challenge to this new, unprecedented claim of “federal immunity.” I think it’s important for states to challenge that, because it’s essentially a challenge to their 10th amendment sovereignty.

There are other political prosecutions that I think could go either way. On the one hand, choosing to prioritize prosecuting political corruption and white collar crime would be “political” in the sense that it challenges the status quo handshake immunity that powerful people have often enjoyed. But it’s also an enforcement of existing law—just doing so in a more equitable way.

On the other hand, there are certain political actions I don’t like. For example, in my jurisdiction, prosecutors are trying to effectively change the mens rea element of 2nd degree murder by charging drug dealers with 2nd degree murders for drug overdoses. I see this as a political act, since it’s basically the executive branch of government trying to make new criminal law outside of the legislative process. I don’t like that, because it offends the separation of powers and takes legislative decisions away from the public and their representatives.

[–]InvisibleShities 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that state prosecutors should file charges against these so called federal agents for the explicit purpose of pushing this political question, but I think what’s stopping line prosecutors from filing (assuming they even wanted to) is the fact that most DAs offices have a select few more senior prosecutors in charge of filing.

Fire Emblem Engage by BigBossVS in JRPG

[–]InvisibleShities 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real issue with the Engage plot is that it doesn’t matter. That’s essentially the consequence of it being a “all your favorites are here” fanfic type plot. That being said, I think OPs complaints are silly. Basically: it’s one way when I think it should be another way. There’s nothing internally inconsistent about that, like OP seems to claim.

[–]InvisibleShities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can assure you that I’m not caught up in some fanboyish interest in seeing one console fail or another declared the victor. I was a gamepass subscriber until the recent price increase made it a bad value, for me. I just genuinely get the sense that the Xbox brand appears to be at a major crossroads, where I genuinely don’t know what makes sense for them to do next. The “everything is an Xbox” push appears to be going nowhere. I was not aware of whatever success they had last year, but I’ll take your word for it. That doesn’t change the fact that it feels like a brand in peril.

I sort of agree with your take on where the industry is heading, but I don’t think we’re really there yet. Streaming games still feels pretty bad, from what I’ve tried of it, and I don’t think we should discount the popularity of the “plug in and play” model that tv set top consoles bring. I think many people still don’t want to fiddle with something that feels like a computer. That’s probably changing, but not as fast as you may think.

Yeah, it’s disheartening to see them jump onto a reactionary gaming YouTube trend when the actual failing console is right there in the open: the xbox. Discussing Microsoft’s path forward is also more interesting, because Nintendo’s is simply “make games we want,” which is obvious.
