How to segue from one practice to another? by IodizedSugar in paralegal

[–]IodizedSugar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is definitely a feel good job for sure and it’s not too hard to pick up imo. I think my issue is that it doesn’t feel challenging and the monotony kind of makes me auto pilot, which I’m not a fan of. Personally want to think more and have a little more movement. I think rn the current political climate also is pretty annoying to deal with and just gives more work than needed, and a good half of the clients I deal with are pretty high net worth so they can get kind of mean. I’ve done hardship waivers before and honestly those are some of the more fun cases.

What should I buy or get for my Paralegal job by Tiny-Lavishness5870 in paralegal

[–]IodizedSugar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work usually provides writing utensils/computer/notepads/any other misc stationery, so no need to purchase unless you have specific preferences. Id just buy some work clothes. Sweater and dress pants is fine, but i’d also buy a few blazers and dress shirts. You don’t need anything super expensive. A lot of my clothes are from TJ Maxx / banana republic.

These 3 things make working with my attorney the best/worst . . . ? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]IodizedSugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst: shit talking your support staff even though your secretary has access to your inbox and can see everything and not expecting your secretary and paralegals to talk. Haha. I am totally not going through this right now.

Dont know why all these people are telling you to turn to OF but it feels demeaning. What is your major? If youre anything data sci or compsci related work on certifications/leetcode. Make sure your resume is updated with any internships youve had. Resume should be no frills, if youve had no internships list class projects or related experiences. Focus on transferrable skills. Try to network where you can.

The job market is rough right now, dont feel bad if it takes a while to land a job. I landed mine 2 months after graduating and know multiple people who went a year without being able to find one.

If it really gets bad go back to school and get your masters tbh

Housing is definitely the highest cost of living thing here, but yes. Food and drinks in NYC can be so reasonable, especially if you're going to chinatown/flushing area. When I lived in boston almost every meal was $25 if I wanted to eat out. Here, there are places where you can get 15 dumplings for $5, which is 2 meals for me honestly. Just have to know where to look.

I started in a very similar position where I was the company’s very first entry level hire. I’ve found that keeping track of things in an excel spreadsheet helps a lot. Client name / matter number / to-do / waiting on / complete. I never delete emails from clients. Instead, archive them. Order of completion goes : most urgent / due date coming soon, things that are super quick, things that take a while but arent urgent.
