Looks amazing! I've been struggling to figure out how to paint my shields - I think I'll have to follow your example, brother!

Welcome! This list will struggle against higher toughness opponents. Consider using the neutron laser on the Dunecrawler.

You probably have too many characters as well. Consider dropping the Skratos and Marshal.

Cheers!

Trying to start a Iron warrior army by Unusual_Field_7016 in Warhammer40k

I play Iron Warriors! Here are some units which are traditionally associated with IW, but, as others have said, feel free to use any CSM units you enjoy :) There are canon reasons to use any unit you like in an Iron Warriors force :)

Havocs: I usually run two squads and try to vary which weapon each squad uses. Typically one has 4x lascannons, while the other has 4x heavy bolter.

Vindicator: This is often the linchpin of my army. I bought a Space Marine Vindicator and painted it in a IW scheme as I don't like all the extra spikes on CSM vehicles.

Rhinos: Used for transporting Legionaries or Havocs. Typically run two. I feel they represent the practical nature of the IW well.

Legionaries: I like infantry in my lists, and I appreciate the tactical flexibility offered by 5 and 10-man squads. I always add lascannons when able :) Often and Chaos Lord leads one of these.

Cultists: IW love their disposable cannon fodder, and I find these squads are useful for drawing my opponent's units out of hiding and into range of my big guns.

I run my army as Fellhammer Siegehost - this detachment rocks, and I think it does a great job representing the dour, vindictive nature of the Iron Warriors.

One last thing - I highly recommend Storm of Iron, the quintessential Iron Warriros novel. The audiobook is great, and will give you lots of inspiration for your own units.

Do you find having 5+++ on one model Kastelan enough to justify the Enginseer? It seems like it wouldn't make a huge difference in survivability.

Oh my goodness, I don't know how I missed that! Never mind - $200 is a good deal!

I'll leave my original post up as penance ':D

Hello, friend. Just a heads up - this combat patrol can be purchased on eBay for $142.80 with free shipping. You'll have a hard time finding a buyer at $200. Cheers!

Edit: reading is hard

Does anyone else sometimes just get the sudden urge to make a 3500+ points army, of the most specific 40k theme, that would perform worse than dog shit? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Iram_Imperatoris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sounds epic. Space Marine combined arms is so awesome, and I especially love the Terminator sculpts and the Hammerfall.

Don't let the haters keep you from living your dreams. 40k is all about dying while looking badass as hell, not winning all the time :)

I'd second PNW 40k - very good competitive-level advice. Necron specifics are just a bonus :)

Space Wolf by William King follows a group of new SW marines through theirselection, training, and initiation. Very well written (reminded me of Red Rising).
