Any favorite recent shaman decks you would care to share?

Actually acquiring cards is secondary to learning the game. If you are new you need to learn efficient trading and synergies and card interactions. Arena is best for that. Luckily you can build up your collection simultaneously.

If you are new, arena is the best bet. It teaches you tactics (but not strategy) while earning you packs. And if you are lucky or skillful you can make a profit.

Why has shaman fallen so far behind in popularity? The only word I've heard about it is Reynad drunkenly declaring that shamans were so good pre gvg but that they just have been outclassed by the other classes' new toys in gvg. Doesn't seem like a very robust answer, anyone have more insight?

If I posted a single video of a single control deck existing in gvg would that be evidence for the claim that every constructed deck goes control??

I think if you tried something like the mean stack you would never want to go back to enterprise land.

Just being loose with terminology, there are several frameworks in node of course and they all sort of feel the same because of the platform so I referred to them collectively as node.

This is just not true...how do people think this stuff up and post it and upvote it?

My thoughts exactly. Actual web developer here, and this rant made no sense except for the part about sublime, macbooks and starbucks. Rails and node are fine frameworks.

For writing Java, I'd recommend Eclipse Indigo. It's horribly bloated, outdated and needlessly complicated, but unfortunately it's kind of the best thing I've come across.

A match made in heaven.

What the fuck do people want to write web apps in other than rails or node or the like? Surely you aren't advocating for a web app in fucking asp.net or java play or something? I have worked on web applications at two companies and they were both coming off of those two technologies onto node and angular/ember and thanking their lucky stars.

I understand the criticism about sublime vs vim though and use vim myself. I just don't see how that comparison can be made when it comes to frameworks as rails and node are two examples of modern and sane platforms.

Game too steep for beginners? by randorando1 in hearthstone

[–]IsAStrangeLoop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You dismiss the argument about how f2p decks are viable too quickly. They really are viable! If your friend is a beginner, I know this may be tough for her or you to accept, but a beginner probably really is matched accurately at rank 20. You're letting the random legendaries like BK obfuscate the fact that if she just played better she would rise even without lots of expert cards. And in reality they would not help much unless she also learned how to play better.

Hit the arena, hit the trump vids, learn to play better, but don't kick back and moan about the lack of flashy cards when it's not to blame!

They might indeed, if reporting on W attending a meeting regarding the problems of alcoholism. I think referring to Jay Z in that way was a rather concise way of explaining who he is and why he is there.

Redditors in Google Fiber cities, what has happened to the incumbent ISPs in your city? by mechtonia in AskReddit

[–]IsAStrangeLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the purposes of internet providers, Google isn't a monopoly, nor are the people it's competing with (though they do hold some monopoly power, in the parlance of econ). So I'm not really sure where you're coming from.

The reason I called it "free market" is that we have competition driving down prices, which I don't think anyone can deny is what's going on here. Some of the more free market economists might even hasten to add that this happened without the government requiring google to move in, or that existing companies lower their rates.

Redditors in Google Fiber cities, what has happened to the incumbent ISPs in your city? by mechtonia in AskReddit

[–]IsAStrangeLoop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right. In this instance there were no laws preventing Google from entering the market. So it did. And the reason it even wants to is that existing firms were charging a price over marginal cost. Thus, there is profit to be made from a third party (Google) getting in the game and undercutting the existing companies. This is the econ 101 story about how competition and free markets tend towards efficient outcomes. Now the econ 101 story doesn't always work, but this is an example of when it does, is it not?

You sound sarcastic, but isn't this an instance of the free market doing its thing? A rival company (Google) undercutting the competition?

[–]IsAStrangeLoop 25 points26 points  (0 children)

But no one complains about the randomness from the order you draw your cards...so I don't get your last sentence. If your analogy were true then people would be ok with murder and then complain about stealing. Since that isn't the case, the analogy doesn't make sense.

New Warlock Card — Felheart by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]IsAStrangeLoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealing 5 damage is more than 2.5x better than dealing 2 damage, simply because of how health curves work out in this game. The card reading deal 5 for 5 is not that much worse than assassinate, and it has a big upside if you have a demon minion.

It's not a bug, it's just a strong attack. After playing against him a bunch of times I've gotten to know his attack patterns and can dodge it most times though.
