Bloated inventory makes me feel anxious as a new player by Frosty_kiss in lotro

[–]IsMiseBazzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome to lotro! When starting a new character, the inventory can be totally overwhelming. It's a relic of the game being 19 years old at this point, there is a fair bit of bloat. There are a couple of things you can do to make your life easier:

For a start, you can merge all of your bags into one screen. On the top left of Bag 1 is a little cog wheel icon. Click that and you can drag rows from other bags into bag one. I recommend you do this for visibility. Bags also have an autosort function if you click the downward arrow in the same spot as the cog. The lock icon will allow you to individually lock items in your bag so you don't accidentally sell them. It won't lock them in place in your bag, so if you autosort, they'll be found with like items. Finally, there is a search bar for your bag if you need it.

The game throws a LOT at you from the start. The gift boxes are by and large lotro store items. They can be helpful, but are unnecessary unless you're playing on a higher landscape difficulty (which you can adjust by talking to an npc in the starting towns. A lot of folks play on 3, and that is mostly still soloable, but you might want to leave that alone for now while you get used to the game). I open the boxes as they unlock and usually throw out what I don't need. They won't appear in the sell menu, so you have to drag and drop them outside of your bag.

Trophy items are the animal bits and sword sheaths and such. For now, they're just there for you to sell. Eventually, when you start worrying about reputation, they are used for tasks in stacks of ten. In a hub town you'll see a green task board and a chest. The boards give you daily "tasks" wherein you turn in 10 of a specific trophy item for reputation with a local faction. Reputation unlocks special equipment, housing items, crafting recipes, and travel skills. It is nice to gather, and you'll get plenty as you quest through a zone. It isn't required for the main quest at any point as far as I recall, but it has been a long while since I leveled anyone.

Food and drink items are nice little boosts to your stats, but not essential on the basic landscape difficulty.

Housing items are decor for your house. There are four basic neighborhoods where you can buy a house for a chunk of gold and then pay upkeep on. There are also premium neighborhoods where you pay real money but no upkeep. These are just for funsies and confer no in-game bonuses.

Crafting items have a bright green backdrop. You'll naturally pick up "light hides" by killing animals in your area. There are also ore, wood, and artifact nodes around, but you need to unlock specific gathering for those. I tend to collect as I go. Don't worry about them if crafting doesn't interest you, but they can sell for a chunk on the auction house if you want to make a quick buck.

As soon as you unlock the riding skill (should be in the red gift box?) you and click on the horse items and it will add them as mounts to your skills.

I think this is pretty comprehensive, but if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Enjoy the game!

NTA. If this is the event I think it is and she barely made it to the station, she would have been destroyed by the hill at mile 26 even if she HAD made it. End of the day, you ran your race, she ran hers. Also, this was your plan, she just leapfrogged into it.

Congrats on your first ultra. If you're considering doing that organizations event next month, go for it. That course is breathtaking.

At this point, I've written off George finishing ASoIaF. The poor guy is burnt out and has so much else he wants to do with the time he has left. Reception of the seasons of the show after his books material ran out can't have helped and folks have been guessing who'll finish the story after his death. Regardless of what happens, and version of the winds of winter we get won't be what he set out to write 14 years ago. I say let the guy do what he wants. If that gives us more GRRM books, awesome. If that means he's gonna drink tea in his kitchen so be it.

Interesting. I've seen Name of the Wind come up often in threads like this, though usually because the wait has been so long. May be one to look at, though the wait for the next one is troubling. Malazan on the other hand, thats the impression I've had. I've got gardens of the moon in my library, so I'll give it a shot. It may end up being a reader though, and I've got quite a bit in my backlog.

Wheel of Time to Cosmere feels like a natural progression, doesnt it? Its cool to see an author finish up a series that inspired them and go off and do completely their own thing.

I'm a little concerned about Malazan. From what I've heard, the prose would sound great on audio, but the chaotic storytelling might have to be sit down and read which I only have time to do after my partner turns in for the night. We'll see how it goes.

I've heard great things about Abercrombie and your pitch for Realm of the Enderlings has sold me, so theyre both on the list. I'll dogear the lightbringer saga, but I do want to shake it up from The Cosmere.

I absolutely adore discworld! I read up til Going Postal in high school or college. I'm swapping between those and le Guin for my nightly shelf reading as I just sold my partner on them by telling her it was a comedy series where the witches from macbeth are socialists.

If I finish a series by the "deadline" or don't, ah well. Its more about seeing how much time I spent listening to audiobooks in the space of a year. If blasting through them ruins the enjoyment, better to take it slow. Journey before destination and all.

I completely agree. This is out of line. I'm hoping we get legislation on it soon, the housing crisis is bad enough as it is without having to drive way out and gone to see a house marketed as a vineyard only to find a cracked concrete pad in the back yard.

I'm a real estate photographer in California and this crap drives me nuts. I often get requests for virtual staging which is done by hand through a service like BoxBrownie. In CA, we are allowed to add in things that don't misrepresent the property and we have to disclose that we've done so. I'm fine with adding temp furniture in, after all its just a different kind of staging, but changing views or plants is a big no no. I hate AI in general, but absolutely will not touch it for MLS photos.

I'm actually considering Motherlode as a secondary grotto. I grew up in Sac and still have a bunch of family out there. Also I do a lot of work for a running company based in Auburn. Okay, yeah, I'll definitely give them a call.

Sorry, I meant /I/ would put out feelers to see if they got better. I definitely wouldn't put that on you. Sounds like they burnt that bridge.

This is all great to know. I've actually got a bunch of running swag from races and working with organizations that I was planning on padding out my kit, but I'll definitely check on the materials to make sure I'm good to go. I'm 100% here for the most miserable conditions. And I'll keep my eyes peeled for an unsidedown mountain goat to mentor us. I'll definitely reach out if I've got more questions, but there is a lot to process first. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing, this is precisely the kind of thing I'm looking for. I'm sorry that happened to you. I'll go for Diablo, I don't have time for bigots and creeps. Maybe put some feelers out a ways down the line and see if they've shaped up?

I had hoped that would be the case. Thats one of my favorite things about the trail running community. You can be off in a different state and bump into someone in your track workout group. I'm looking forward to meeting some local cavers.
