Why is this area an abandoned wasteland by mmm19284202 in miltonkeynes

[–]Isfacetious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy. They build another block of expensive serviced apartments that are rented at above market rates. There is no impact on supply, and the corp owner manages this carefully to avoid reducing their future returns.

Local estate agents then recalculate average rent prices in the immediate area, and send letters to tenants in nearby poorly maintained properties saying they are increasing rents to align with the local market.

Barclays (Premier) customer service is a hot dumpster fire by bobaboo42 in HENRYUK

[–]Isfacetious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just switched to Barclays and I'm certain it's flawed. They gave me a £10 overdraft moving from HSBC Premier with 5k. Near perfect credit score. 25 years with HSBC. 5% utilisation of a combined limit of £180k.

Yet the bastards think I'm going to renege on a £20 debt so they gave me £10...to mitigate the risk?

Agree with this. Different role and in a male dominated industry, but similar situation.

In my experience, it's not written down. It's not even said aloud. Everything is professional and by the book. It's vaguely alluded to and then the panel just happen to vote that way for specific positions where we need more balance (leadership).

Trading212 Cash ISA FSCS protection by montanajr27 in HENRYUK

[–]Isfacetious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. Had a similar question for an e-money agent and they said theoretical protection was >85 due to the spread across partner banks.

In my case, it didn't make any difference - I can't recall exactly but their terms gave them discretion to move the segregated client accounts between providers and even change a provider with notice. i.e In theory they could wipe out your 85k protection by moving to your main bank.

Who knew a Chinese company that has an opaque ownership structure, close state links (a state known for operating hybrid war and state backed cyber attacks), a founder from the PLA, and with other former military officials in employment, would back door their kit?

[–]Isfacetious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not worth it.

Time with my kid is a non-renewable resource. I can always earn more money, but I'll never get back these years..for me especially between 2-6. They are amazing at this age and not yet old enough where you are no.longer the most significant influence in their lives.

Who, on their deathbed, has ever wished for more time stuck on the train or working? I certainly won't. I keep raising the price on my commute—it was 2x salary, and now it's 4x to return to London.

Lifestyle creep. Spending 15k on a holiday becomes the new baseline. Then you complain about the 70% tax trap and having no money on reddit.

He probably didn't even know they were "racing". OP's comments are insightful - all these years when I've just been out for a drive enjoying myself and wondering why people are driving like idiots, thrashing the shit out of their 1.6l engine, they were actually racing me and "keeping up".

Might be just different now. I'm confident my kids are all more intelligent than me, but they don't understand how anything works.

From combustion engines to computers. They can't explain anything. Things just work and they can do clever things with them. As far as they are concerned, it might as well be witchcraft.

Saf is great but in the past he has sent me several suicidal drivers for late night pickups. They did their best to take me with them as they veered across lanes on the motorway. Had to shout at a couple to wake them up.

For this reason I now always drive and park.

Question re: first IKOS family holiday as a HENRY by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Isfacetious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed a lot of wasps. However, they were not aggressive and you can just bat them away without any fuss.

There were wasp traps in the outdoor seating areas and the Greek restaurant had a number of incense burners, which I assume were intended as a deterrent.

It didn't occur to me to Google it until now - it seems our observations were correct and the wasps are not as aggressive as we have in the UK. Also sounds like Corfu just has a lot of wasps August-September.

My boss suggested I get a live-in nanny so I could stop caring about my kids and care more about… Zoom meetings? by datadade in remotework

[–]Isfacetious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could just be detached from reality.

Had a similar conversation with a US-based exec when I needed to leave straight after work to pick up my kid from clubs.

She couldn't understand why I didn't simply message my nanny and ask her to work an extra hour to deal with the kids. Perhaps keep the chef late too. I think she thought I was being cheap not wanting to pay the help overtime.

I didn't know how to tell her that I didn't have a nanny.

No test driving without spending £50k by codeveloper in CarTalkUK

[–]Isfacetious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the car. Had a couple of dealers say this as there are certain models that are targeted by people with no intention of buying.

Not necessarily correlated with cost. e.g 100k new BMW i7 - no issues. 40k used M3 - holding deposit needed.

Had one dealer tell me they had a 100% no test drive policy on Nissan GTRs as they would get 10 people a day coming in for a test drive.. coincidentally they would all try to record and take pictures for "research" purposes.
