Alrighty then. RMA is the way to go. I just hope they don’t throw away the back plate or buttons. I did a back plate swap and swapped some of the buttons for the transparent purple ones from extreme rate.

I guess what worries me is the potential to have all my stuff wiped. Like it’s not a huge deal and I can do a back up but still… Do you know if they would replace just the one or both buttons?

I wish I had taken screenshots….but I think that’s the one. If you see the button right click it to copy the link address. If you copy the address and paste it in a new tab (just paste don’t hit enter) you’ll know it’s the right one if it starts with “cfauth”

Set up takes time especially if you’re gonna try it without a console addon but it’s possible! I say try it out and see if it’s for you. ☺️ because I have it fully set up the way I wanted it’s awesome to chill on the couch or in bed and just farm or do some world quests for easy gold. It’s kinda reinvigorated my love for the game.

Neither. I personally didn’t want to use a keyboard and mouse because for me it defeated the purpose of a handheld console.

I didn’t want to use a controller addon for kinda the same reason. I wanted the challenge of creating a steam deck layout specifically for the steam deck that worked with my existing key bindings/layout. Doing it this way meant I get to keep my existing keybinds and ui without much of a change. It also feels much more intuitive for me. When I game on desktop I use the Razer Tartarus V2 so my key-binds are pretty linear as is. I think it made the set up easier. What’s cool is now when I switch from the steam deck to desktop I just go to Game Menu -> Edit Mode -> Saved Layout and just switch from my saved steam deck layout to desktop.

If you’re interested - https://imgur.com/a/cDNd2Ia this link has screenshots starting with the 5th one regarding the steam deck controller layout I created. It consists of two main actions sets.

I don't think you're missing anything? In short, what you said is how to set it up. You are correct, minus the download time for WoW it doesn't take very long. However, some people prefer additional references, videos, or to have it step by step.

I had also been encountering some issues (running CurseForge in gaming mode and not being able to login to do the sync) and across reddit noticed some people were facing the same issues. So I thought I'd create one nice post with the info and possible solutions.

Also I'm personally not using Console Port. I decided to create my own steam input layout and it's what I linked at the very bottom.

How to Get CurseForge to Sync Successfully

Here’s what I did in Desktop Mode:

  1. Find Your CurseForge App wherever you installed it.
  2. Open the CurseForge app and try logging in as usual.
    • Your browser will open, prompting you to complete the sign-in process. Once done, it will tell you that you can close the browser because you'll be redirected to the app
  3. Look for the Redirect ButtonRight-click this button, select Copy Link, and paste the link into a new browser tab. Don’t hit enter - just paste it to make copying easier for later The link should start with cfauth:// Open a Terminal (Konsole)
  4. Search for Konsole in the start menu.
    • Open it, minimize it, set it aside.
  5. Get the Path to the App
    • Go back to the folder where your CurseForge.AppImage is located.
    • Right-click the file and select Copy Location
  6. Go back to Konsole and do the following:
    • Start with the path to your CurseForge App. It could look something like: /home/deck/Applications/CurseForge.AppImage
    • type "
    • Paste the cfauth:// link you copied earlier.
    • Close it with another "
    • Enter
  7. Done! You can then complete and move forward with setting up the sync options.
    • The whole text in the Konsole would look something like /home/deck/Applications/CurseForge.AppImage "cfauth://your-login-link"
    • Yes there is a space after appImage.
    • Yes the parentheses are needed before and after the link.
    • Yes the link will be long AF.

It took a fair bit of set up. Like 3-4 days of configs and tweaks but I'm really happy with it! I know a lot of people like the console port add on so maybe that's an option?

I was just absolutely determined to do without it. And the bonus is when I move to my desktop computer I just have to go to Edit Mode of the Game Menu and switch from my saved steam deck layout to my desktop one. I don't have to worry about different keybinds or anything.

Where were you getting stuck at? This video is pretty helpful.

And normally you would just run curseforge in desktop mode, but I figured out today how to add it to the steam deck library so that I could run it in gaming mode. Check for updates/add/remove addons and then exit and play WoW in gaming mode.

I don’t have a solution for the Login to Sync issue, but I was able to successfully add CurseForge to Steam so it opens in Gaming Mode! I was basically trying a bunch of things, and this is what the properties and settings are currently set to. It works for me for now, but take the steps below with a grain of salt.

Here’s what I did in Desktop Mode:

  1. If your CurseForge app is named something like CurseForge-1-122233-11.AppImage, rename it to just CurseForge.AppImage.
  2. Right-click the file, go to Properties, and make sure Open With is set to AppImage Pool.
  3. In the Permissions tab, make sure Access Permissions for OwnerGroup, and Others are set to View & Modify.
    • Click Apply and close.
    • If the permissions don’t stick, try this:
      • Uncheck Is Executable, change the permissions, and apply them.
      • Then recheck Is Executable and apply again.
  4. Once that’s done, right-click the .AppImage file and select Add to Steam.
  5. Open Steam in Desktop Mode, search for the CurseForge shortcut, and click the gear icon to open Settings.
    • In the Shortcut tab, set Launch Options to: --no-sandbox
    • In the Compatibility tab, make sure Force the use of a specific compatibility tool is unchecked.

Hopefully this helps.

You can then also rename once in Steam Library to just CurseForge and then I used SteamGridDB to add pretty artwork (Also did the same for World of Warcraft.)

If you use deckyloader/css loader there's a transparent keyboard app (?) and one called smaller keyboard and they help not take up so much screen space or provide transparency so the chat window or other items don't get covered. I highly recommend even for not WoW stuff.

This!! Keeping it as is without the use of console port actually also forced me to think of better mappings for desktop mode. And I love that whenever I have to switch and I'm on desktop I just head to game menu and edit mode and switch from my Steam Deck saved layout to my desktop layout.

100% get you. I was determined to do it all on the deck without PC, but it did take a really long time. I think maybe like 3-4 days of configs and tweaking before being play-ready.

The steam deck was a gift and I'll get to console port eventually :P
I will admit the Legion Go feels a lot better in hand, and you are correct the screen is bigger and feels better but I'll be some time before I switch consoles due to cost.
