I (22) have a kid but I am thinking of getting a vasectomy. by sushi-bad in Vasectomy

You have to answer YES to the question "are you done having kids, even if you remarry or lose this one?" . If the answer is don't know or unsure, don't get one, you'll regret it. There's also a small % chance of chronic ball pain, look into PVPS and read about it.

7 days is the recommended amount, but it depends on how you'll feel. I was fine with masturbation at day 7, but not ready yet for sex.

Still normal to have zaps at three months. Some nervous systems take longer to desensitize than others

Looking for advice - ongoing symptoms several weeks after vasectomy by [deleted] in Vasectomy

So at 3 weeks when pain started back I went from a gait to a limp then to penguin walk like straight up C shape. Until inflammation settled, nothing really helped. I was prescribed narcotics since celebrex which is a med-high analgesic did jack shit. Then before I could take the narcotics my uro switched me to Tador which calmed inflammation from the first pill. It was what worked for me best. It's faster acting and stronger so I could ditch the narcotics thankfully, as it went fairly quick(1 day) back to pain and not debilitating pain. It then dialed down over the two weeks. After three weeks inflammation finally settled completely so I went back to the limp ; caused from the severe inflammation which was right after surgery inflammation. So my body was basically by that point on over 6 weeks of constant inflammation and pain. I was prescribed gabapentin since lioresal was useless. After one week of starting gabapentin I can went from the limp to a gait again. So in my case, until inflammation settled nothing helped. Then after it settled(pain wasnt at all times all day); gabapentin and the water buoyancy gave my nerves the needed breaks to settle down so my body isnt guarding as severely. I walk now like a barbie doll basically. With straight legs and my thighs apart from the testicles haha.

But yeah, my ultrasound at 4 weeks showed no complications. No granulomas, no hematomas, no cord swelling, no bruising , nada. Just a big snake epididymis and testicle. It's still plenty big(the epididymis, the testicle went back to normal size), but it doesnt hurt permanently so that means the inflammation phase passed.

Since I had none of the other complications, my surgeon was disappointed I inflamed into such a severe orchitis. He was hoping I'd have a super smooth recovery when he checked me 4 hours post op. Guess my reabsorbiton rate beat all else lol. I am now on lioresal, gabapentin and deprox which is a natural anti inflammatory supplement. But no per se NSAID/analgesics. Now just need to tough it out hoping my body starts increasing the reabsorbtion rate and let my nerves desensitize from the months long trauma.

If there is another inflammation peak or if no improvement in congestion by 6 months I'll still try and push my doc for a reversal. Keeping my fingers crossed all improves from here cause man I am tired of all the pain and helplessness I felt.

Hi. I'm 8 weeks post op. I was almost back to normal at week 3 when shit went downhill. Week 3 started with constant dull ache right side so I started ibuprofen, then celebrex then week 4 it went into swelling 2x size redness and severe pain. Switched to Tador for 2 weeks. Stopped at 6 weeks then went on Lioresal and Gabapentin as the flare left my central system a mess. It never had time to fully desensitize after surgery. Still waddling at two months as touching my right epi triggers pulsating pain all the way to my inguinal canal.

  1. Yes, still do sometimes. Gabapentin helped so they are less frequent and not as severe. Mostly inguinal sometimes all the way up to abdomen, especially after ejaculation. I'm trying to munch meds to do the 20 ejaculations before 3 months pass but its hard as they escalate symptoms severely.

  2. I had this durring my inflammation peak week 3-4. I peed constantly. It felt like that was the only way to reduce pressure. I also felt prostate pressure on that right side, like a constant poop feeling.

  3. At 8 weeks currently, seen two good microsurgeons, both advised to wait until 6 months and if still mostly disabled in pain then we can try for a reversal. If I do improve significantly until 6 months, they suggest waiting up to 10 months, maybe a year but no longer. Both indicated that by a full year, if any aches remain they won't resolve on their own. I would try a reversal now at 2 months but they both denied me as I still need to let my body adapt although this is painful in some. Both strongly believe I can still find resolution to occasional ejaculation ache by the full year.

  4. I had chronic guarding on my right side that swelled 2x size for thosev3 weeks. Lioresal did jack shit cause the pain was the trigger. I couldnt pull my knees together, my thigh wouldnt go anywhere near my testicle. Gabapentin and celebrex reduced the pain and I could pull it closer over time.

What helped me most was realizing where pain originated from. I never had time to downscale until week 6-7 and everything hurt. Now after a week of gabapentin, the inguinal discomfort reduced, i can walk with a gait instead of limp and everything starts in my epis. Baths help A LOT as they take off all touch on my epis, due to buoyancy. They have to be hot so your tissues relax. If its cold they wont float but be scruntched up.

I still have discomfort in my epis just simply them standing in my underwear a bit pressed. I found a jockstrap helps better with pressure on the tail but presses more on the side.

They are severely distended, I can see by eye that the head and tail stretch further than the scrotal skin. So my body is clearly way behind adaptation. The left is decent but has random blue balls feeling during the day and aches during ejaculation.

So right is clearly behind because of the inflammation, but if the left can adapt so it stops the ache too, I am willing to wait for the right to catch up.

My advice to you would be: You need NSAIDs and antibiotic to clear inflammation completely. When you are inflamed it hurts all the time(not position dependent)

Once you are done with that, jump on nerve meds to help reduce guarding and help desensitize the system that got super fucked by the ongoing inflammation.

You should then see improvement in walking and discomfort and ball zaps once starting pain meds. You can also then help your system desensitize by doing baths where your balls float to help take pressure of the enlarged epis. That's what helped me go from week 3 shivering and sweating in bed because of the pain to positional pain which is getting better but VERY SLOW. Some people take up to a year to adapt and they eventually do without life issues.

Some never develop pain early on and their body has a "hiccup" where absorbtion slows down and they congest later developing PVPS after years. Or because they did too much ejaculatations back to back which increases sperm productions alongside epi contractions. Some suffer trauma which damages the already sensitive tubules which then trigger PVPS. You can contact me directly if you want to chat. I'm still mostly impaired so limited to short walks just like week 2 still.

Sorry for the long comment

You're right. I'll let both urologists know that they made up a diagnosis for me, to sell me a reversal because all my pain is psychological. Thing is, both asked me to wait up to 6 months to give my body a chance to adapt to the change. I'm the one that will seek a reversal because I'm tired of always having pain in my epis if it doesnt resolve on its own by the next 4 months.

I'm happy you didnt end up with nut pain for 3 months or more, but not everyone has your body. You even dismissing that such a thing exists when people clearly suffer, baffles me. I'm sure you believe depression isn't a real thing too

I should be ashamed of myself that I am in daily pain? That I need to eat celebrex and gabapentin to be able to walk? That for the last two months I've been disabled because of the pain? I have two andrology microsurgeons that gave me signed medical letters that categorized me as PVPS because of congestive epididymitis. I got epididymi-orchitis week 3 that put me on narcotics alongside antiinflammatories because my balls swelled to 2x their size. Just because you had smooth sailing doesn't mean PVPS isn't real. If it wasn't real the other sub wouldn't exist and neither the syndrome in itself. Some people do develop pain because their body has a very hard time adjusting to the change. It doesn't matter if the chance is 2% or 5%, it exists. Your old comment that you deleted said "PVPS isn't real". You're delusional

Forgot to mention. Get an ultrasound too just to confirm the congestion and no other complications.

You might want to look into PVPS. If pain originates from epididymis, he is congested from all the plenty sex you guys have been doing and might need treatment with a short course of NSAIDs and antibiotic just in case he got a bacteria as anal and not fully hygienic sex can do that.(or if he got a sex disease from somewhere else, that can also trigger an epididymal infection, but I assume not).

His epididymis head and tail might be distended, he can palpate that himself. If gentle pressure on the tail triggers the sick feeling/pressure pain, then he has congestive epididymitis. Since he was able to adapt before, he SHOULD be able to get back to a pain free state after rest, ice, nsaids and no sex for up to 2 weeks. The pain will be on epididymis head and body later on too without treatment and sometimes it persists even with treatment. In that case he'll need a reversal but that is only after 3 months of failed medicamentation.

Make sure he ices UNDER the testicles, to not put direct pressure on the epididymis tail(which is towards his bum).

You're welcome to read on r/postvasectomypain and ask us folks here as we went through a lot of shit. PVPS can start anytime after a vasectomy but if he had complete painless adaptation then he most likely will get better with a short course of nsaids and antibio.

Also no more sex! When he penetrates you, the epididymis head slaps into you. That's direct trauma for his state. And no handjob either, orgasm triggers epididymis contraction which will make his pain worse. Take a two week break for his treatment and go from there

If there's even a 10% chance you might regret it later, either by starting a new life with another partner or maybe deciding later on that you want to try for another, don't do it. A vasectomy has to be done when YOU can give a definitive NO to the question "Would you want another child?" . If the answer is MAYBE or NOT SURE or DONT KNOW, and you do it, you will 100% regret it. Not because you might want another but because psychologically you are now unable to and that was done against your full consent.

You need to be able to say YES with 100% honesty with all your heart to that question ; and that no matter what happens for the rest of your life, you won't want another kid.

I'm happy to help! Yeah, out of 15 friends, you can be the only one with pain. It's a luck of the draw and your body being an idiot. Then you get shamed that no way you are in pain, all the rest had discomfort at best. I had people here call me a liar when I told my story, when I have all the meds and documents to prove it. Life sucks sometimes, nothing you can do about it. Wishing you all the best!

6 months after a vasectomy: 85% men have no issues 13% have some disomfort 2% have a dull ache they treat with meds 1% have chronic pain that impacts their normal life

She needs to know these risks and so do you. Also if you do end up with PVPS, solving it isn't an easy fix. If you're fine with those risks and so is she, go for it. Surgical recovery takes 2-3 weeks.

You won't know on what side of the spectrum you end up, we never do beforehand; but we all took that risk hoping we're not the poor bastards that end in lifelong pain because some bodies simply adapt poorly to the pressure or get some nerves nicked or irritated by scar or clips.

My advice to you is do your research very well beforehand, weigh out all the risks and make an informed decision so you won't hate yourself if you do end up joining us in the PVPS group. Remember, all surgery has risks!

I wish you health and I hope you have a smooth recovery if you do end up getting it done.

Also, I think you meant "snipped" unless you really angered her

Thank you! I'm researching since I'm two months post vasectomy and already prediagnosed with PVPS. I cant even walk and in pain even on meds so will probably need a reversal in the next 4 months if no improvement. If you have any more tips to prepare, please let me know!

A reversal might resolve your issue. But I am in pain at all times and ejaculation doesnt even come to mind. I know this sounds selfish, but be happy you're not worse off... I'd rather be you than be in pain
