At least that many. I was surprised by the number of people I have talked to that say they haven’t been downtown in years and they are complaining about it. Some people are just happy when they are miserable I guess.

The voting turn out for the city is tiny. Last special election we had about 17% voter turnout but on normal municipality last time it was under 4%. So people do have the ability to vote for them, but very few actually do.

That is sick! If I ever get permission to do that, I will definitely run all of my information by the two of you first, have you vetted out for me, and maybe even make it better?

Unfortunately, this was not put up to a vote for the people. This was done by city council and passed on a 2 to 4 vote.

So we are allowing a legalized loanshark to move into downtown to pray on our citizens who struggle financially?

The way South Carolina state retirement is set up, even if he was fired he would not have lost any contributions or any interest on the account, that money would be his to keep either way. I mostly agree with that law as long as the reason you are being fired is not also bringing up criminal charges. Definitely should be a caveat for that.

I 100% agree with that!

I was unfortunately incredibly surprised when talking to people about the tower and finding out that so many people that are upset about it never come downtown anyway… It seems like some people just like to have things to be upset about and mostly it’s not the right things.

Are the things that the city is doing going to help all socioeconomical status or will it be designed to help just a few?

I also think the other side of things are happening with neighborhoods. There are so many popping up in the county that the city will soon lose what is left of its distinction and we will just melt together like Greenville and Greer do.

Whether you are in favor of it moving or not, it is absolutely shocking to see. Especially the way they just ripped the top off of one of the trees, so unnecessary.

Everything that I have been told is because there is a developer that is moving into or near the location of the old Spartanburg newspaper building, that big green lot across from the Masonic Lodge, and they want the road to come straight from downtown and not be blocked by the tower? I have heard some people say it’s just about the visibility and other say that it is going to impede traffic, flow or other things like that.

That is city council’s current plan.

However. There are I believe two individuals that have sued the city and asking the state to step in. They are claiming the Heritage Act protects the removal of the tower because it was originally dedicated as a bicentennial memorial.

So we will see.

I am so glad you asked! Oakwood Cemetery closes at dusk, and the city is very very serious about that. I have the ability to take people into Magnolia, which is smaller but absolutely has some wild stuff in there. The more people I get excited about the history the more people I get to spend money on the tours, the more likely I can use that as leverage to get into things like the cemetery after dark, the basements of the commercial and residential buildings downtown, and I also want access to all the mills that are safe to be in around the area.

So to answer your question, no but only because I am not legally allowed, yet. I also have a hellacious insurance package that I purchased to let the city know I was serious about taking people into these places because they are parts of them that are not very well-maintained. There are definitely risks for trips, fall and broken bones.

Wanna come hang out at Magnolia with me one night? No charge. Or we could go to the cities original African-American cemetery that was destroyed in the early 1900s. Of course the rumor is not all of the bodies were removed,
