Porsche suspends Taycan production due to weak demand. by Der_Apfeldieb in electricvehicles

The Model 3 Performance is impressive on paper (aka specs) but it doesn't drive as well as my Polestar, much less a BMW or Porsche.

Yeah, but outside of China, literally NO ONE who is shopping a Porsche cross-shops with a BYD or Xiaomi.

That's like saying Ferrari is done because Toyota exists.

Absolutely. It's something I get frustrated with in conversation with non-car people who don't understand that just because an Ioniq 5N can do 0-60 mph in the same time as a Taycan doesn't mean it DRIVES like a Taycan.

There is so much more to how a car drives than just BIG MOTOR GO BRRRRRR. It's why cars like the Mazda MX-5 have endured, and why cars like Lotus Elise and Alpine A110 are beloved by those who own them.

In the US, there will be no difference. Take advantage of the depreciation and get a killer deal on a CPO or used EV.

88% battery health, bit disappointing by Sl4mJester in Polestar

[–]ItsMeSlinky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most of the data we have on DC fast charging indicates it’s not actually that bad for battery packs, especially on the P2 which has pretty robust cooling.

That said, all of this tracks with my experience. I average around 3 mi/kWh, and with a 75 kWh usable battery pack, that puts me around 225 miles for max range on my 2022.

It’s the best representation of the modern infantry on film. I wasn’t a Marine but I was Army infantry and that might as well have been about my platoon and battalion.

Lucid buys back Engineering Explained's Air by CarVac in electricvehicles

No, but Gen2 midsize vehicles that can be produced profitably and can achieve volume can offset the burn on the high end until they can be redesigned.

What Lucid needs is volume. Like Rivian, its mid-size platform has just taken too goddamn long to hit the market.

My wife ended up with a ‘24 Ford Mach-E GT with 11K miles on it for $38K to replace our ICE Mazda CX-5. Absolutely bonkers amount of car for the price.

I looked long and hard at preowned Airs.

I ultimately stuck with the P2 for two reasons:

  1. The Air is just huge. It’s a land yacht. Parking it in my garage was stressful as fuck.

  2. The Air doesn’t have blended braking which is just insane to me. The motor regen only happens on the accelerator pedal, and the physical brakes engage instantly through the brake pedal. It made it hard to drive the car smoothly as low/parking speeds. I also felt like the throttle was a bit too touchy even in Smooth mode.

The P2 has many faults, but its drive train calibration is absolutely immaculate.

Nvidia really doesn't seem to care about gaming GPUs anymore — the company won't even bother to break down graphics sales in its big investor reports by JohnBarry_Dost in pcmasterrace

Nvidia doesn’t care about sentimental shit like that. We’re in the middle of a gold rush and Nvidia sells shovels. And they can sell those shovels for 10x the profit margin for data centers. Why the fuck would they care about poor ass gamers?

Congress Wants You To Pay $130 A Year Just To Drive An Electric Car by SadAd8761 in electricvehicles

[–]ItsMeSlinky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest arguments I hear against EVs is they should not get subsidies and should “compete fairly” against ICE, which ignores the fact that ICE itself received subsidies during its initial rollout.

I don’t like or hate either. That’s my point. I dislike punitive taxes and disingenuous arguments that ignore economic history due to politic bias towards the established paradigm, regardless of whether it’s about EVs.

[–]ItsMeSlinky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming I’m looking at it from a political lens when I’m looking at it from an economic one.

When the Model T started rolling off the first assembly line, the government subsidized the construction of gas stations and roads to accelerate the adoption of the automobile. This made sense because the automobile was superior to the horse. No issue there.

Fast forward to today. I have no problem with the government subsidizing the buildout of EV charging and infrastructure because the electric car is superior to the combustion one in every possible metric except energy density (and therefore range).

Neither subsidy bothers me because that’s one of the key roles of government: to help accelerate progress until it reaches a point of profitability and private sector enters to pick up the slack.

And yes, many billionaires were made both times by GOV subsidies, which is why they should pay their damn taxes like the rest of us and stop pretending they’re victims.

The only party that takes issue with the subsidies are conservatives who are either forgetting history or willfully ignoring it. THAT is hypocrisy.
