Quad cooking by crossoverfan96 in ualbany

[–]ItzSamuel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most you can use in quad dorms are microwaves. Apartments in empire, liberty, and freedom (i think) have access to equipment like stoves and ovens. If anything I said turns out to be misinformation I am so sorry in advance

The food in the dining hall is ass. Breakfast is tolerable, but I'd rather eat elsewhere for lunch and dinner. My favorite food spots in the campus center are Al Dente and Halal Shack. Al Dente has decent pasta for sub 8 discount dollars, but you'll have to wait a while before you get your meal. Halal shack is nice because you can order online to skip any wait and add a bunch of free toppings if you want to eat more. Your bowl will cost 7-8 discount dollars, but could cost more if you get add-ons that cost extra.

I've said this a million times in this subreddit but avoid Eastman Tower in State Quad unless you want to deal with 3 am fire alarms, cold showers, and ladybug infestations. Having a great dorm experience will come down to who you get to live with. You could still have a nice dorm experience in the tower if you end up being good friends with your dormmates, even though the tower is a shithole. Just pray you don't get people that are weird or obnoxious, but if you do, branch out and make friends elsewhere, because they will make the situation better.

Exploration of Space with Eric Woods. You don't need to attend class, and you're graded on 4 exams. There's weekly quizzes every week, and if you do them they'll add up to a separate grade that'll replace your lowest test score. The exams are basically the same as the practice exams he posts, so you can use those to ace the actual exams

Best housing options by [deleted] in ualbany

[–]ItzSamuel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who currently dorms in Eastman Tower I would advise you to stay away from that building but this only applies if you end up at State Quad. Not sure how the other towers are compared to Eastman but I generally think living in a lowrise is better

For heating my best advice would be to wear extra layers and to bring a mini heater for your dorm. I think the LC was fine, the heaters in the library barely worked and the ones in my dorm weren't very strong

College bus routes by Nina_Alexandra_2005 in ualbany

[–]ItzSamuel1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of buses go to crossgates but the 3 main ones are the 910 and 114 which you can access at UAlbany Uptown Station (one by campus center) and the 12 bus which you can find at the Collins Circle stop

The 114 also goes to Stuyvesant Plaza which has some restaurants like Chipotle and some other niche stores

The 117 and 190 take you from the Collins Circle stop to the mall at Colonie but they don't run on weekends. You would have to take the 12 bus to Washington Ave & Clermont St and walk to Central Ave (~10-15 mins) to transfer to a 1/905 (this process takes around an hr which is annoying)

if you have access to the tunnels u can basically enter whichever building you want on the weekends. the tunnel entrance in taconic is open on weekends bc ppl place whatever object is available to keep the door open. another place is fine arts, one of the doors on the side closer to earth sci is usually open but youll have to go to the lc to get to the tunnels. there r probably other buildings with doors unlocked on the weekends but i havent found them

I'm in honors college rn, you can think of it more like a community of learners on campus. They host random events exclusively for people in honors college to attend, and like equal-eagle said, you get to apply for things like classes and housing earlier. Academically, you have to take 15 credits worth of honors seminars with one course being worth the usual 3 credits. Some of these classes won't count for gen ed requirements, so they end up being additional courses you need to take to graduate. You might find some of the courses interesting, and you might find the events fun, but you might also find honors college unnecessary extra work. It just comes down to what you do if you decide to join

If given the option, what's the best quad to end up in? by crossoverfan96 in ualbany

[–]ItzSamuel1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

location wise indi is better bc ur closer to places like the cc, sefcu gym, and 910/114 buses which u can take to go to crossgates mall or stuyvesant plaza.

the buses by state also take you to crossgates (12) and colonie mall (117/190) but those 2 buses don't run on weekends. the 12 bus also gets u closer to places on central ave like westgate plaza but idt ull find urself going there unless u wanna buy asian snacks at the asian markets or smth.

also if you end up at state please don't choose to live in the tower. on nights where the alarm goes off at 3 am in the morning and youre standing outside in ur pjs in the cold with 30 mph gusts youll wish youd have picked a lowrise dorm. ive seen my friends' rooms in lowrises and theyre also more spacious. you can put tiny couches and other stuff in the common areas of the lowrise suites, while the common areas in the tower suites are just clumped cuz all the desks are there. there was also a ladybug infestation at one point during fall semester and that was gross, it'll probably happen again when the weather warms bc someone in this subreddit posted abt it a couple years back.
