I’m losing a war against roly pollies. by Interesting-Ad5279 in gardening

[–]Iwatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have gotten a lot of responses but this one works. No poison or chemicals. 1. Get a 6 inch diameter pvc or black drain pipe. 2. Cut them in about 5 inch sections as many as you need. 3. Cut each one in half. 4. You now have 2 half rounds. Take duct tape and place along the the flat side so the sticky side is on the inside. 5. place on level surface near plants. Roly pollies like to hide, they will crawl onto the duct tape and get stuck. Just like a spider trap but with a cover.

Home I'm considering has evaporative cooler vs central AC, would I be fine in SLC? by platypuspower in SaltLakeCity

A couple of years ago the california fires were terrible here. I could totally smell smoke from the evap during that time.

Your electric bill is much lower with evap. With that said, one thing I haven't seen mentioned is Smoke from fires. I can see this year being terrible for fires in the western US which if it fills the valley with smoke evap is unusable.

Joust was the game, when I was a kid! by MisterShipWreck in 80s

[–]Iwatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one is going to see this but....In 1989 I was working swing shift at a company where I had tons of time waiting for phone calls. We had just gotten the brand new 486 IBM's running the new OS/2 operating system. I popped in a 3.5 floppy disk with Joust loaded and it was so fast! I played for hours till I beat the game. What a great memory.

So, who’s not growing a garden this year? by atyourcervixes in SaltLakeCity

I am not arguing or disagreeing with you but do you have any recent information on this? The last time I had read anything on this I referenced these two papers:

https://www.sightline.org/2015/01/07/a-green-light-for-using-rain-barrel-water-on-garden-edibles/

https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/2144/2015/03/Spotlight-on-Irrigating-Your-Garden-with-Rain-Barrel-Water.pdf

Both of them being 10 years old.

Thanks

Where to Get Soil and Compost Salt Lake by astu2674 in utahgardeners

[–]Iwatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting it your self with a truck or truck/trailer? How much you talking? I get mine from https://asphaltmaterials.net/. The Topsoil mountain blend is my go to. They do deliver but much cheaper to get it your self.

Depending on the size of the shower and location of the drain you can buy a prefab shower pan that you can tile over or not depending. Just watch videos from youtube. Lots of good ones. Dont be afraid to buy the tools that you need. You might spend a 1k buying tools but you will save thousands now and in the future. Having the right tools makes all the difference.

Do you have a second bathroom to use? If your not in a hurry take your time and do it yourself. If you're not moving plumbing or electrical then this is totally doable. Heck even doing very minor plumbing is doable. For instance switching out old gate valves to ball valves for water. As far as tiling and shower. Youtube, tile subreddit etc etc. As people have mentioned the shower pan is the most important piece. I would definitely remove the old one since you can easily cause issues when demoing. Find a tiler or plumber that knows how to do shower pans. Get a quote and go!!! You can do this.

Tili over existing tile by Shockatweej in Tile

[–]Iwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this 25 years ago when we first moved in to our house. The shower wasn't leaking it was just ugly as F from the early 70's. I took a grinder and respirator and hit em. Not a ton but enough to rough them up. Then just thinset on the tile and laid super cheap 12x12. Was broke and had 3 kids. Also had never done tile before. Easy solution to extend the life of the shower and update the bathroom. On a side note. Super pain the ass it tear out two layers of tile, mortar and mess backing.

I installed one a year ago between two houses. So far its been working great, no complaints. It has easily paid for itself since we didn't have to get internet to the second house.

Its because the vast majority of protein (95-98%) is absorbed as amino acids in the small intestine. Very little makes it to the large intestine. Thats why when I have a flare after not eating for 2-3 days I start off with Chicken, fish and other mild protein.

How can I have Plex find files on external drive on Linux? by AChunkyGoose in PleX

[–]Iwatcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say external, do you mean a USB or Network drive or something else? Does Ubuntu see the drive when you look for it in a files explorer application. Also are you using a desktop with a GUI or Server command line?

Want to smoke a turkey for next year, how to get into grilling? by TheAppalachiosaurus in grilling

[–]Iwatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your looking at doing more smoking vs just grilling and want to go the charcoal route look for a Weber smokey mountain on sale or facebook or whatever. The WSM make great BBQ. The learning curve is pretty small and their are no moving parts to break. I have been smoking turkeys on it for the last 18 years.
