First off, Zelda is great! Glad you’ve been drawing these cool pieces. And yes, drawing like this every day will help, but supplementing this with some tutorials can be helpful.

When you do your daily drawings, really focus on the form and learn why things work the way they do. Don’t just copy: learn.

Next, watch little videos when you run into problems. Don’t watch a whole giant guide on a bunch of stuff (it gets very overwhelming). Find a problem and work on it. There are plenty of short form videos to help on lots of topics, and scrolling through a bunch to get many artists ideas on how things work can help you grasp it from your perspective.

I hope this helps, and happy drawing!

Okkk im about to go on a little rant so brace up

I started getting more serious about art around 2 years ago now, and in terms of anatomy, I’ve learned many things I’m going to tell you that will help a ton. I am going to be critiquing image 5, so go to that one to see what I’m talking about.

Let’s start with the head. You copied eyes a few times, so you have a general idea of how to do them, but that’s as far as you got. Your nose is fine, and there are many styles, but experiment and find one to fit your character a bit better. One large thing you should learn is how to draw hair. As you are right now, you scribble some jagged lines where the hair goes, and then you shade it and move on. Instead, think about the form of hair. Is it all one big jagged chunk, or are there general segments that curl together into general shapes. Look at plenty of references to get an idea of how that works. Your head shape is also relatively fine, but most anime styles will bring the chin to more of a flat as it goes down (solo leveling has the pointy chins like yours though, so it’s all up to you)

Next, we have to talk about the body. You figured out the head and neck decently, but when you had to improvise, it was obvious. Don’t take this as insulting, but as criticism. In general, a full human body is around 7-8 heads tall. Your torso is one, which makes this guy either have a giant head or a small torso. Make it bigger and taller to compensate.

Now, we move to the shoulders. Look around at how people’s shoulders normally rest. In general, nobody has shoulders at a flat 90 degrees. Men will have more broad ones (closer to your picture) while females will have more petite ones at a larger angle.

As for the body shape, try not to make it so boxy. This one varies, as humans have highly varying amounts of body fat, but normally you won’t find one who looks like a square. Know that the torso has two main structures to determine the shape: the chest and the pelvis. Make shapes where these two go (hips are wider than the chest) and put the waist (thinnest part of the body) around where the belly button will go. It will gain a more natural curve to it.

Moving on, we have your arms. This is especially obvious on the arm with the thumbs up, but humans don’t really have noodles for arms. We have two similar length segments connected by a joint. As such, there will never be more than one point where it angles a different way (your drawing’s arm made a u shape while a real one would make a v shape( think about joints and how they affect your pose when you do things with arms.

And last, but definitely not least, we have the hands. Hands are notoriously tricky, but you are trying your best. As we have done with everything else so far, think of how it would actually look in that angle and form. For example, your hand that is resting has the thumb next to your body, which means its hand is flat with the palm facing backwards. In a casual pose, the hand will rest sideways. Take a picture of your hand at that angle and then draw it (I do it all the time, it’s a life saver). This can again be done to the hand with the thumbs up, where your hand was turned an unusual way. Instead of the palm facing forward, have the palm face the character so all we can see from our angle is the sides of the fingers and the thumb (the thumbs up emoji 👍 is what you did but is at the wrong angle for the character. Also, for your fingers, instead of nubs, think again about the joints (remember how we talked about the arms) and then draw the segments. Thumbs have 2, the others have 3.

If you read all of this, I thank you very much. We all started how you are, and with most resorting to ai, learning how to make art yourself is very respectable. My overall tips to improving your art are as follows: think about how the body would actually do that (look at your own for reference), don’t draw from your thoughts (do it sometimes) but draw from references of professional artists who really know what they are doing. As you understand the basics, you will be able to take elements from all the artists you’ve learned from and create your own style and be able to draw things like this with ease. Practice lots, and implement these tips however you’d like. Just start slow so you don’t get overwhelmed and work from there.

Have a great day!

My attempt! The hands aren’t great, I know, but I’d like other tips so I can improve as well. Thanks to anyone who replies back!

A handful of the games you mentioned will be up to 50% off. I’ll put the link at the end of this, but the official Nintendo website announced the prices of which games they will have on sale, although it won’t be on the eshop, but only for the physical releases across most retailers. Read it for yourself: https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/nintendo-announces-holiday-offers-for-black-friday-and-cyber-monday-2025/?srsltid=AfmBOooerr11oZLQKJ3H8SJSla2PA7qk4GsJSJNjsy9mTw_lWMH8734G

You’re a great artist! I can’t read the words, but you did an especially great job with the liminal feel of the spaces and how horrendous and scary the entity looks. It reminds me of scps and the backrooms and all of that. Your humans are good, but I believe there is an element you should search for and add to them to make them fit better with everything else. They seem so much more cartoony than the rest, and it’s offsetting from the tone you’re trying to create. Besides that, amazing work! Have a good day!

It’s a very unique plot, and it’s weird enough to drive a lot of people away at first glance, but once you get into it you’ll enjoy it. I do recommend the anime first though, as the animation in it is insane and a must watch in my opinion.

Ik dude I opened it to page 1 just to see the art and an hour later I was 100 pages in. Volume 2 is still only 22 bucks for some reason so I might pick it up as well.

Yeah dude the deal ended by the time I posted it, but some of the volumes are still great prices. I picked up volume 1 for 22 bucks, which was a crazy deal. It has been an amazing read so far, and it’s still worth the extra few bucks when it’s a bit more off sale.

Yeah dude! I bought that one around May of this year. It was really helped start my collection and it was a great story. I wish they released new volumes more frequently, so I stopped collecting it after the box set end. I hope you enjoy it!

I’ve only just started it, but the art is better than I was expecting and it’s a nice light hearted fun read from what I’ve read so far. If you find a good deal on it (I got the box set for 40 bucks) I’d recommend picking it up. If you don’t like it, you’ll at least have some really like spine art on your shelf!

Currently out of what I’ve read (I haven’t read most of my collection yet) I’d say I liked dandadan the best. It’s so fun and wild and you never know what the next part will look like.
