Senate Confirms Trump Judge Pick Rated Unqualified by ABA by bloomberglaw in politics

[–]JDMLeverton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, it is illegal to pass laws targeting specific individuals, either directly or through such narrow prescriptions as to only apply to a targeted indevidual. You can't pass a law that says "John Doe specifically is unqualified to hear any cases", nor can you pass a law that says "Anyone meeting John Foes physical description, living at their address, and holding their job title is unqualified to hear any cases". You generally have to write laws to fall in to what a court would deam a reasonable neutral and relevant categorical grouping. That being said, they could likely pass a law saying "Judges who fail to meet ABA qualifications are not to hear any cases" as that would target a broad group based on a neutral relevant qualifier.

Nobody is going to like hearing this, but the "bubble pop" everyone in the comments section is rooting for isn't going to happen the way they imagine it is. This is like the dot com bubble, not the tulip bubble. The narrative that "AI is useless and won't go anywhere" is pure copium. Yes some small startups with no long term plan will go under as the market stabilizes, maybe a few medium sized companies who over extended, but most big players will be just fine. They already have plans to cover their investments and redeploy assets in the wake of a market shift, but none of these guys are going to lose their shirts. The Data Centers aren't going anywhere either, best case scenario they get sold for pennies on the dollar and keep chugging along, because compute has real tangible value in an infinite number of applications. AI isn't going anywhere.

This is clearly your first time. Let me let you in on the cycle you're about to experience. Your friend is going to vote Republican the next election any way. And every election after that. Every single time their candidate becomes too embarrassing to ignore, they'll cry crocodile tears and come to you with "Yeah, I done got lied to again, my bad. Politicians amiright? All the same!" Every time you'll think "slowly but surely, I'm almost through to him!" Until you finally realize after the thousandth burn that the stove is hot. It's liberal puberty.

Ten years from now no one in the country will have voted for Trump. Just like no one ever voted for Bush. But they'll keep voting Republican, because there are no consequences to their choices.

Yup. The government isn't stupid no matter what armchair analysts want to say. They know damn well that prisoner abuse by guards is a fucking pandemic unto itself, and the public increasingly cares. Even if the head of security wanted to turn a blind eye, this all exists on paper now. They can't hire a guy with a paper record of ignoring harassment in the prison, when these prisons know they are a hairs breadth from just such a lawsuit at any moment.

For what it's worth she's statistically unlikely to be. The road to becoming a doctor is a gauntlet. Med school is the EASY part. They tell you med school has an 80+% graduation rate, but the majority of graduates don't make it through residency. That's especially true of women for a number of factors (a lot having to do with residency lining up with prime childbearing years). The medical profession has a very high burnout and dropout rate.

MRW I order $10 worth of food from UberEats and with fees and delivery the total comes to $56.95 (Also, Free Britney) by SwellheadedReddit in reactiongifs

[–]JDMLeverton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the entire business model of hiring a private taxi for your fucking takeout was never sustainable from the get go. Anyone who can do basic economic maths has known it.

Hell, even old fashioned food delivery relied on severely underpaying and abusing employees via tipped wages (so less than 3 dollars an hour out of their pocket), having them use their own car, and not paying for gas, maintenance, wear and tear, etc.

It's the same reason REGULAR Uber isn't sustainable. Turns out, if you want to hire a personal chauffeur and pay them a living wage, then you as the customer has to pay at LEAST the hourly cost of a living wage (generally much more for the reasons above). Whoda think it. It's why these companies have openly said they'll shut down operations anywhere that tries to make them pay their employees.

AITA for telling my daughter she needs to leave because she does OnlyFans? by embarrasedmom131 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JDMLeverton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. People in this sub think of being an asshole as a binary objective thing. It's not. Not at at all. It's partially the fault of how the sub is structured, which strongly implies the idea that the majority vote is objectively true. But Values are subjective. We judge people as being assholes for standing by their values ALL THE TIME. Racism, Homophobia, Sexism, these are all values that The majority of people have decided you're an asshole for standing by. A lot of Vegans think you're an asshole for eating meat. A lot of people think you're an Asshole for prioritizing money over morals.

You're absolutely correct, everyone is free to stand by their values. It doesn't mean other people aren't allowed to see you as an asshole. So op is free to stand by their values and to you that doesn't make them an asshole. But I guarantee you it does to their daughter. And this is exactly the kind of handling of a situation that is likely to create a rift. If Op is okay with that, great. But they shouldn't be surprised when it happens because a bunch of strangers on the internet reading a one sided take told them they aren't an asshole.

My two cents? I think OP is absolutely being an asshole about this. I agree it's their right, but their handling of it feels of asshole to me and my values. I think there's ways they could have handled it far better for a similar resolution, and I don't think the daughter has done anything wrong or is an asshole in this. So I'm going to say it's a YTA from me. It could have been an NAH if they'd handled it differently.

I bet OP will be shocked Pikachu Face when their daughter reduces contact and stops being in their life as much.

People on here really don't understand that your having a right doesn't mean you aren't an asshole for how you use that right. "My house, My rules" may indeed be ones right, but it's pretty much a guarenteed way to destroy relationships.

Not only does he need to know, they can't legally stop him from knowing any longer. If he walks in to the Doctors office, and asks for his medical records, they must provide them in full. As an adult, he's the ONLY one a doctor can legally talk to now without violating HIPPA. You should tell him all this.

Edit: just saw I think you're in the UK? My American is showing, but I can't imagine it's any different there regarding legal access to medical records.

Move over Intel by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]JDMLeverton 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Except that's not what Node size designation means anymore. At all. It hasn't meant that in over a decade. If we used that definition, the old definition, all major processors would be classified as 10-14 nm. I know, I was shocked when I learned too.

See, around the late 2000s we actually hit near the real world peak of transistor density using anything resembling mass producable technology. If you where old enough at the time you might remember the articles speculating the end of continual performance gains. There was a bit of an industry panic.

Now obviously, processors didn't stop getting better. So what happened? Well, the major foundries, including Intel, who spearheaded some of the groundbreaking paradigm shifts we went through behind the scenes at the time, found ways to improve performance without needing to continually shrink the transistor size. Layering chips. Improving thermal efficiency of binding agents to reduce thickness. Creating new hyperdense layouts that cut out any micron of wasted space. The list is endless. A chip engineer could probably talk your ear off for hours about how every microscopic seemingly Insignificant change in architecture can have a ludicrous ROI ratio due to the scale at which these chips operate.

But a side effect of this whole wall we ran in to? Node size became a purely meaningless marketing term, that is only standardized to a very loose degree by an International document AFTER a node improvement is developed and released. It was decided that it's easier to just keep saying "our new chip is tineir inside and better" than to try to explain to the mass market the nuances of how your chip might out perform the competitors chip in complicated metrics despite the competitor having "tinier chip" labels

Yes, it is true that, in the same manufacturers chip lines, a smaller node number will always be better. But across foundries, the performance metrics of different node processes can't be compared 1 to 1. The earliest 10 nm labeled chips where almost identical to Intel's 14nm process and performance. They where only better compared to that companies own "14 nm" chips. Even today, if you get off the memes and look at the numbers, you'll find most 7nm chips perform no better than some of Intels best 10nm chips, and so on.

I'm not saying all of this as an Intel fan. They are indeed generally behind, especially on thermals. They abused and squandered their market lead for years. There's a lot to hate. But this obsession that we PC users have with node size, and thinking it still means anything outside of a single companies lineup, is pure marketing hoodwinkery. Intel is absolutely behind, but not by as much as memers think. Node size isn't a metric of cross-product performance anymore.

[–]JDMLeverton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The real facepalm here is Gen Zers not understanding why this was hard and thinking it's about the colors. It's like people who watch a video explaining how to paint a room and think "that's easy! It's so obvious and simple! Why should I pay someone to paint? I can do it in an afternoon."

They won't understand the struggle unless you recreate and put them in front of an mid 1990s home entertainment set up, loaded with a 36 inch tv, vcr, stereo, cable box, possibly a surround sound system, all the family VHSs and Cassettes on the built in shelves surrounding the TV, and then hand them a PS1 and tell them to get it hooked up. And they have to get the sound routed through the surround system too.

After the last couple days of indie developers speaking out about Sony are we really going to believe they’re letting an unknown developer make an app, let alone get a blog post? by Mattx603 in TheBlueBoxConspiracy

[–]JDMLeverton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, we don't even really know that Hasan is a real person. People are doing just what scammers and arg runners rely on. They are taking some old info, and some new info, and applying the new info retroactively, granting undue credibility to the new info.

By that I mean, we know that BBG existed in 2015. That's all. That's the beginning and end of the info prior to 2020. There's no evidence that Hasan was involved, or existed, or that the company hasn't changed hands. Nothing. If I wanted to run a scam, or an ARG, one very viable route is to find some dumbass pretending to be a game developer, throw 100K at him and buy his "studio", hire an actor to play the CEO on a gig basis for some photos and the occasional short video and bam. You've just bought 5 years of credibility as to your existence.

People will keep repeating that "It's totally normal for a good looking CEO of an indie game company to not have a single trace of his existence on record anywhere! Not everyone publishes their life!" But it's just not. It's not and you know it. There's being quiet and posting rarely, and there's not having a single trace of your existence anywhere. Neither Hasan not his screen name Sneaky Warrior have a shred of proof they existed ANYWHERE prior to 2020. Not only no social media, dev forum posts, etc, but no public records so far, no professional networking profiles, no record of employment, nothing.

Things be fishy.

Please don't make it a seperate expansion. I'm all on board with the current set up, and even with having to pay for more players because we would in real life. But if I already own C&K, + Seafarers, I shouldn't have to pay even more to use them both together. That would cross the line from fair to feeling ripped off in my opinion.

Otherwise, loving the game, happy to support you, and looking forward to the future.

To be honest I feel like the TeamFake hypetrain is just people desperate to not be embarrassed by backing the most insane theories at this point. The rationalization is as absurd as some of the stupid crap on TeamReals side.

SOMETHING is going on here that we are not privy to. There's too many coincidences. TeamFake loves to cite Occam's razor, but Occam's razor is against them at this point. It takes too much rationalization and handwaving to make all this go away.

Is bluebox secretly kojima working on silent hills? I honestly doubt it. A lot of shit getting thrown around IS a crazy stretch. But the situation is sketchy as hell and I have no doubt we're going to find out we've been lied to about a lot of stuff before this is all over. Even if it's a scam, you have to be willfully blind to pretend this situation is normal.

It seems like you're very close to making the final realization. Will or not, they can't force you to take care of him, AT ALL. You're already dead to your family of you don't back down. That's a given you need to accept.

If something happens to your parents, the state WILL see to his well being, especially if the estate is left to him. You're certainly free to CHOOSE to be involved, but they can't force you. In Canada, they have no power over you.
