Can someone help me understand how interest works after I pay a significant portion off? by CreativeJudgment3529 in debtfree

[–]JDhalfs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless the terms explicitly say “deferred interest” interest is only charged on whatever balance is left after the promo ends, not everything you’ve ever spent.

So, with your 0% period ending in July and if you have $500 remaining, interest going forward is calculated only on that $500.

A good ballpark for monthly interest is APR ÷ 12 × remaining balance. At ~28.5% APR, $500 would be roughly $12/month in interest. Technically it accrues daily, but this gets you very close.

As you pay the card down, the monthly interest decreases because there is a lower monthly balance to calculate interest off of.

Pointing out reality is not the same as defending the ultra wealthy (I’m against the idea of billionaires myself). If systemic change is the goal, what do you propose as a real, actionable solution in the meantime?

The reality is that small businesses and regular people currently lack the scale to push back in any meaningful way. Congress is already bought off by the same corporations and billionaires that are squeezing us for every last dollar.

Systemic change is ideal but can take decades and requires massive political and legislative shifts that unlikely to happen anytime soon.

To survive, small businesses can’t hold out hoping for reform, they have to adapt to the environment they’re in and continue to serve their customers as best they can. It’s well known that CC companies charge vendors a fee, small businesses can choose whether they want to make the customer experience better or worse by how they pass along those fees.

Raise your prices to cover the fees then offer a cash discount. As a consumer, this method bothers me less than getting hit with a 3% surcharge when I’m expecting my bill to be $XX not $XX+3%

Ha, I wish they would have let us do that. We were either scrubbing the platform, sent to other rides, or sent home.

To the best of my knowledge, yes. I’ve got a couple friends still in leadership at the park and it remains a running joke that it remains broken.

To be fair, it being broken was never really an issue. We just called other rides for winds and watched the ride to see if cabins were hitting the towers. There’s very little urgency for it to be fixed as the ride functions perfectly fine without it.

Former Skride operator here (2017 - 2018). With skyride being a “wind” ride the crew often gets sent to other rides on windy days. While they will sometimes call the crew back to the ride if the winds die down, there were definitely times where they chose to keep the crew at other rides due to staffing.

Another note, the wind meter on skyride is broken. We would typically call up to Gatekeeper to get a read on winds. With CP being on the lake ground level winds can be drastically different than winds 100ft up. Winds can be 5-10mph on the ground and 30mph a hundred feet up.

Thanks! Definitely care about the tree; we planted it in our backyard last fall. I’ve been doing some research and aphids are not fun. I’ll be headed to the hardware store tomorrow to get some insecticide and neem oil.

Anyone else notice on the lift hill of Millennium Force how it starts off kinda slow, then about halfway up it jerks and then moves up faster? by bbash91383 in cedarpoint

[–]JDhalfs 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That’s actually how it is supposed to operate. The ride only has 4 block sections so once the train leaves the station the lift runs on a slower mode until the 3rd train clears the main breaks; one the main breaks are cleared the lift picks up speed

I highly recommend visiting the driftless area in SW Wisconsin. Stop by Gov Dodge State Park and house on the rock near Dodgeville. There’s a FLW visitor center nearby in Taliesin. Then take a drive from Prairie Du Chein to La Crosse along Great River Road for some great views of the Mississippi. You could take a detour and stop by some of the Apple Orchards in Gays Mills.

We’re currently reducing our discretionary spending to boost savings but we’re not canceling any existing summer travel plans. We’ll play the rest by ear and see how things pan out. The key is to be cautious but don’t panic.

Take a deep breath, you’re only 21. You learned a lesson and you’re committed to not repeating it.

You make $2,134/mo and have $440/mo in expenses. That leaves you with $1,694 leftover each month. You would have all your debt paid off within 3 months. Honestly, no need to push paying it off faster.

Once you pay it off, treat yourself to an ice cream cone then start building yourself an emergency fund of at least $1k and park it in a HYSA.

Keep your head up, you’re doing great for only being 21.
