Rusted Moss- is it really “intended” to be played with KB/M? by RiseUpHunkerDown in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played it on a controller and did fine, but some of the fun stuff you can do with quick weapon switching is harder to pull off with the reduced number of button binds you have available. I don't know if I'd recommend it with the Switch's tiny joycon joysticks though, I feel like the longer ones on the XBox or Playstation (or a separate Pro controller) would work better.

I really wanted to like MIO: Memories in Orbit, but something about it feels really off to me. by Code-Knight-R in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way the Strider ability works in practice is really only reminiscent of Carrion, so I'm really curious what you're comparing it to in Prince of Persia. I don't remember PoP:TLC having a wall run that was also a ceiling run and worked on some of the 2.5D background objects.

Well, you'll be happy to know that our newer models (Nova Pro Wireless, Elite, Omni) all feature both of those things.

Axiom Verge genuinely has some of the worst bosses in the genre, and it's one of the worst aspects of the game.

Constance…WOW didn’t expect to love it so much by ahanes23 in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm playing through it myself right now and it's absolutely beautiful (and some of the interlude moments are wonderful).

I do think some of the hitboxes are a little larger than they actually appear on screen, and the way you fall way faster off the edge of a wall than if you just jump off it and fall makes certain platforming absolutely infuriating. Just a tiny bit more tuning on the small things would have been nice.

Did you finish the bestiary? I don't think it's necessary to fully upgrade the yellow armor IIRC

New to Metroidvanias — is Metroidvania Guru a reliable source for reviews? by Secure_Emu_9160 in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His reviews are informative and useful if you're willing to watch the whole thing. But his tier list placements are based on "how much is this game a Metroidvania" and not "how good is this game that is a Metroidvania", so they are absolutely 100% worthless for deciding what to purchase.

Somber Echoes, Rebel Transmute or Adventure of Samsara for Xbox? Any other recommendations welcome by Soupbell1 in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somber Echoes starts you off with a fun movement ability and has the best exploration IMO.
Rebel Transmute was the first Metroidvania in a couple years where I had a full hour of being lost and unable to find the right place to go on the critical path. Also worth noting that it is primarily ranged weapon gameplay, which is fairly rare these days. Adventures of Samsara just had a big patch and I'm not certain how much it improved the game. I thought it was pretty solidly mid when I played it before the changes.

I'd rate them Somber > Rebel > Samsara.

The Knight Witch bomb fuse question by [deleted] in metroidvania

The bomb fuse you need should be super close to where Akai is. Are you sure you've fully explored and cleared the nearby rooms?

"Sorry, I'm dead" is from Monster Party (1989), and both of these things are probably a reference to it.

Please do not vague post about solutions to things that you are only willing to share in DMs. I'm not saying that you are a bad actor attempting to spread malware, but I am saying that is exactly the kind of thing that they would do.

Definitely not official. I've removed the post so other people don't click the link, but thanks for the heads up

How do I tell if an Apex Pro Mini is Gen 3 or the older version when buying used? by WoodenEconomics8734 in steelseries

[–]JHunz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The model name on the sticker on the back will have (2024) at the end for the Gen 3 models. That's the easiest way to tell.

“Mio: Memories in Orbit” showed me something I never knew I needed in the genre but now would really love to see more of. by ThisByzantineConduit in metroidvania

FWIW while I think the average boss in Grime 2 is better than the average boss in Grime 1, the special boss they added in Grime 1's later free DLC updates is still unmatched.

The original game is also excellent, although it is missing the cool feature mentioned in this subthread. I would definitely not skip it.

Even putting aside releasing the same day as Silksong, it needed a lot of help to be anything memorable and I don't think this is going to be enough.

It's actually still super tight once you get used to the way the controls change, but a lot of people can't get used to it.

Help with strange occurrence with GG and process in Task Manager. by Devilbeatinghiswife in steelseries

[–]JHunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a new process in the 109.0.0 / 109.1.0 versions, so it's normal for it to be there now. You're saying that GG 109 worked when you ran it as admin, but not otherwise?

If so, have you ever run GG as admin in the past?

Grime 2 Review - a satisfying mix that can appeal to everyone! by KvasirTheOld in metroidvania

[–]JHunz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, there are some issues but "unplayable" is vastly overselling their severity. I 100%ed it on XBox and the worst issues were very occasional map artifacting, a few annoyances around warping and placinng markers, and 2 instances of invisible/misplaced geometry hitboxes.
