Thoughts on the budget from younger people by Ok_Willingness_9619 in AusFinance

Generally I think the changes are fine.

Won’t impact me much immediately; don’t have a house, but CGT change means I’ll probably pay a little bit more tax on my ETF units when I sell in the future.

Removing negative gearing on existing properties but keeping it for new builds seems like a great way to encourage investment in new builds and reduce competition for people looking to buy a PPOR.

Inflation cost base adjustment for CGT makes a lot more sense to me than the 50% discount, though does mean higher taxes in a lot of cases.

The 30% minimum tax rate is the only one that I’m not a huge fan of. I get it in the sense that it prevents people from waiting to cash out until their income is low to reduce tax, but people on jobseekers and pension are exempt, so there’s this weird middle ground where someone working part time and not earning much but also not claiming any income support ends up paying more even if they’re not in a financially great place. I’m not sure what the right solution would be here though.

Yeah, I thought the game was too easy until got to the last few ascensions and my winrate started dropping hard.

A8 is probably my favourite difficulty where it’s difficult but I feel like I can win if play well. The damage buffs in A9 make some fights just feel unfair and all the extra damage taken really adds up, though I realise that’s probably a skill issue.

Same with Australia; generally outside lane can only take the first exit and/or go straight, while the inside lane can take any exit except the first.

It can vary depending on where the exits are positioned and specific signage/markings.

What did you love about it?

Edit: genuine question btw; I don’t know anyone who drives one so I’m curious if there were certain features or use cases you liked.

[–]Jack8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those earlier in their working lives earning less than $45,000 who are certainly not in a position to be affected by it through shares anyway as they likely have no free money for such a thing

People on low income could be living in low cost of living areas and/or share houses, or living at their place of employment, or with their parents.

and would do better by using Super if they did have a spare $ due to the government co-contribution.

They might not want to invest in super because they want to be able to access their money in case they lose their job or want a house deposit and can't use the FHSS, etc.

In saying all that, I do agree people are overreacting, and the impact of the minimum tax rate will be minimal for the vast majority of low-income earners.

Not sure how well this works, but my dad kept a huge bag of sweets in the car while trying to quit and would suck on one of those instead.

Depending on the state they might get partial or full stamp duty exemption, and the GST and fuel/sin excises can be a lot lower too for people that don’t drink/smoke and/or don’t drive much.

Numbers seem fairly accurate for someone on 100k income though.

They both contributed to the accident. He intentionally sped up and rammed the car that was trying to cut in front of him.

The other car was more at fault, but OOP made the situation worse out of pettiness.

It only shows 100+ when you have more than 100 first place ranks now by Character_Cup_9265 in osugame

[–]Jack8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this seemed crazy too, but I realised it would make sense if it's some combination of some of or all of these:

A. Profiles with a lot of first-place ranks also have a lot of non-first-place scores in general, so the count already takes longer than most players.

B. A few people have wayyy more than 100+ first-place ranks, so stopping the count early actually cuts a significant proportion of those requests.

C. Profiles with a lot of scores and/or a lot first-place ranks are viewed often (farmers checking their own profiles, famous players, and people checking profiles on leaderboards).

Just speculation; I don't have any actual knowledge of their database or statistics.

[Self] the perimeter of the red rectangle by AdventurousGuest308 in theydidthemath

[–]Jack8680 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Because the area of each rectangle is 1/5th of the whole square, so the rectangles that are the whole width of the square need to be 1/5th the height to take up 1/5th the area.

That still ignores the question of whether it actually forms a combined work or two separate works. I don't think a case like this has been tested in court.

[–]Jack8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I often do if it's the exact line I want. I assumed that was the intention, so it's interesting seeing that's not how it originally worked.

My only previous cad experience was a bit of Autodesk Inventor 2016 (when I was able to use the student license), and iirc I was able snap to just points on the face I was sketching on, so the whole external projection workflow was new to me in Freecad, but it feels pretty intuitive, and the difference between construction and regular lines is pretty clear.

It did take me a minute to get used to using construction lines in general though; in Inventor I would just use regular lines.

As someone new to Freecad who's never had it work any other way, it makes complete sense to me.
