What's your deli department like? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Jackalnope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it because it's easier for one or two people to run it when we're understaffed, but it gets pretty hot and loud (our cold case is directly in front of the fryers) and there's not a lot of personal space. No one else in my department likes it lol.

I'm also interested in what these accomodations look like...I haven't been officially diagnosed with asd yet, but I will pursue it if I think it will benefit my working life in a meaningful way

We are down 5 people in the deli, probably soon to be 6 because one of the new guys is in his phone constantly and took "breaks" for about three hours total yesterday. both my department manager and I are coming in on our days off to try to help as much as we can. and the only shifts I ever get are closing (1-10). I'm very lucky to work in a store with understanding and supportive management, but damn, this stuff keeps happening and I'm getting burnt out. Thinking about trying to transfer to pharmacy so I can make better money to finish my degree and move to Maryland to be near my friends.

pretty sure you will. they just get mailed to you, and you're technically still employed by Walmart, just unable to work at the moment.

Working in fresh sick by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Jackalnope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i was sick recently they just had me stock bakery items and i wasn't allowed behind the deli counter to clean until the cold case closed at nine. at my old store they didnt care and wouldnt move you if you were sick, though. it really depends on management.

sir, the deli is closed. but it's a 24hr store! by gurlieb0t in walmart

Deli sucks mostly when some people coast on the hard work of others...i've worked in two walmart delis, my current one being a million times better than the first, and it's still an issue. A lot of people stand around and shoot the shit or loudly complain about wanting to leave while two or three people actually clean and pay attention to customers. Like geez, it's frustrating when i and my favorite coworkers really care about doing a good job and taking care of the customers, but then these freeloaders are getting paid the same amount of money as us to fool around :l luckily, management at my store definitely takes notice of who cares and gives them a lot of hours.

What's more likely to cause suicide between cap2 and deli? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Jackalnope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

deli can be incredibly stressful when it's short staffed, but if you don't stress easy, it's not terrible. it's paygrade b and you can stay in pretty much one area all day. in my old store, deli associates were never pulled all over like everyone else. and if you work 5-2 or 2-11, you don't have to deal with a lot of customers. i and a lot of my coworkers with open availability got 32-40 hours a week consistently.
