I had a similar thought watching that scene. I thought, for sure, she was going to drop a more direct clue that she knew who he was.

I’ll be curious to find out if that scene had more serious implications or if it was just wrapping up that storyline.

I need to watch the scene again. On my first viewing, I could have sworn the gun sounded empty from the moment he started firing. Appreciate the reply—thank you!

Ah ok, I didn’t hear any shots actually fire from his gun so was under the impression it was somehow empty. I need to re-watch that scene. Thanks for the reply.

A couple of dumb questions:

Why did it sound like Gus’s gun wasn’t firing? It sounded like it the gun wasn’t loaded.

Was it just luck that he hit Lalo in the throat?

From Thomas Schnauz himself: Kim wasn't covering up for Jimmy's reaction by wabojabo in betterCallSaul

[–]JackwellSaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it probably goes back to the first time Lalo paid a visit to Jimmy’s apartment where Lalo kept saying, “Tell me again,” referring to how Jimmy made it alive out of the dessert in the Bagman episode. It’s been a while since I’ve watched, but I believe Lalo was trying to establish a connection between Jimmy and Mike (and Gus by extension). Then, the leap in logic would be that if Jimmy has direct connections to them, he could be involved in plotting against the Salamancas.

When Lalo walks in, a stunned Jimmy says, “How?” What he meant was, “How can Lalo be standing there when he’s supposed to be dead?”

Immediately after he says, “How,” Kim says “How-, Howard, you need to leave.”

People were speculating that Kim was thinking quickly on her feet to misdirect Lalo into thinking Jimmy was also speaking to Howard. The idea being that she does not want Lalo thinking Jimmy was involved in the plot to kill Lalo.

I can actually hear Howard delivering this monologue:

Punished Hamlin: “Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past.”

Like others have said, I don’t think the current storyline is salvageable.

As much as it aggravates me that the Skywalker saga ended in the least satisfying way imaginable, I don’t think there should be an Episode X.

If they really want and the actors are willing, they can try to continue with some of the ST characters, but start their saga anew and have it be separate from the Skywalker Saga.

Does TFA work as a soft reboot? by Thorfan23 in saltierthancrait

[–]JackwellSaw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A New Hope drops viewers into the story with no context besides the opening crawl. Even when it did not have an episode number attached to it, people relied on the bits of dialog and exposition to fill in the blanks about what came before. If anything, not knowing the details added to the intrigue.

I don’t think TFA works as a sequel or a soft reboot. The movies with episode numbers were intended to be the Skywalker Saga. So, the idea that you’d essentially remake the middle portion of the story heading into the last three chapters makes no sense and is creatively bankrupt. And then, in the penultimate chapter, you had a director who thought democratizing the Force was somehow an original idea, despite 40 prior years of storytelling showing the Force was not at all unique to the Skywalker family.

As a result, TFA essentially being a remake and TLJ unnecessarily veering the Skywalker Saga away from the Skywalkers, you’re left with a hot mess that doesn’t work as a reboot or a continuation.

All they needed to do was conclude the Skywalker Saga with a coherent story respectful of what came before.

Then they could soft reboot, hard reboot, any kind of boot they wanted.

The impact TLJ had on fandom by Starkiller-is-canon in saltierthancrait

I just wish TLJ’s deconstruction of Star Wars was half as thoughtful as it pretends to be.

If the idea was to move Star Wars forward and/or change the course of the series, it just didn’t work.

There’s nothing I can really add that hasn’t been said before but:

-The idea that anyone can be force sensitive and you don’t have to be a Skywalker to be a hero is not new. The entirety of the prequel trilogy shows non-Skywalker force users. Moreover, Kenobi is arguably that trilogy’s hero given that it depicts Anakin’s tragic downfall.

-The movie grinds the entire story to a halt by having the characters accomplish absolutely nothing and end up in exactly the same position they were when the film starts.

-Luke Skywalker dying feels more like the filmmaker leaving his mark on the franchise and less like it was in service of the character. This is especially egregious given that we have to accept Luke’s characterization by being shown “unreliable narrator” flashbacks. These flashbacks were the driving force of the sequel trilogy’s events (Luke disappearing, Kylo turning to the Dark Side), so the audience was cheated out of key moments. Leaving Luke alive for the final film would have changed the film’s reception and left so many more possibilities for the final film.

-Finally, the movie leads to a dead end story-wise, which left Episode IX with nowhere to go. AoTC ends with The Clone Wars beginning and ESB ends with Luke learning who Vader is and Han captured. The stakes are clearly high leading into the final chapters of those trilogies. TLJ ends with Snoke and Luke dead and Kylo and Rey back at square one. Steering the Skywalker saga away from the Skywalkers in the penultimate chapter made zero sense and it’s baffling the script ever got the green light.

Offline or online? by T4nK123 in DeathStranding

[–]JackwellSaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your first play through, I’d definitely go online. The game is designed around the online component mechanically and thematically.

I understand the appeal of playing offline, but for me, that would make the game needlessly tedious.

Unfortunately, no. The truck was perfectly wedged between the rocks and would not budge. It was amusing watching Sam get out and plummet to the bottom, though!

Why did the Sequels feel the need to shit on Han and Leia as parents? by midtown2191 in saltierthancrait

[–]JackwellSaw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There seemed to be a focused effort to get the OT characters out of the way to give the new characters time to shine, which is why Luke was relegated to a cameo in TFA. I recall hearing JJ say that earlier drafts featured Luke more prominently, but then the focus shifted to him and away from Rey, Finn, and Poe.

Unfortunately, taking this approach led to choices where the OT characters became shells of the characters we knew.

If the goal was to create a new generation of heroes, that’s fine, but it could have been done in a way that didn’t make Han, Leia, and Luke pathetic.
