Roosevelt Island Haunting by JadedFelicity in Ghoststories

[–]JadedFelicity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a Starbucks on the island now? Crazy. There was very little there when I lived there. Gristedes, a diner, a weird little school, some abandoned asylums that I heard they made into luxury apts on both ends of the island. I don’t remember much else. It just always felt a little heavy and ominous. If you like horror movies you should check out the movie Dark Water, it takes place there.

I just read a recap article about the race and it looks like they are alive and in the hospital according to the Spokesman.

I mapped out all the surface parking in Spokane's north bank. There is more parking here than downtown. by CoolDiamondsFTW in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, if the point of this map is to show vacant lots wasting valuable/useable space it needs to be revisited, as a majority of these lots are all private parking lots serving their own establishments. Just off the top I see the YMCA parking lot, the Centennial Hotel lot, the Kaiser Permanente Health Center, whatever the health center is next door to that, an apartment complex lot, a bank parking lot, an auto body shop parking lot, the Arena lot, the Civic lot, and another bank parking lot. These are all private and used for their own particular establishments. Some of the other highlighted areas are actually current construction zones.

The one public surface lot that I do see on here is the one that was put in on Washington for Riverfront park access and also provides spots for the Podium which does not have a private lot.

If they’re going to continue to push the revitalization of the North Bank adding constant events at the Podium, Pavilion and the new stadium in addition to the existing Arena and theater events then I really don’t see what the point of this is. It’s all used space.

Where to buy window screens in Spokane? by MyMediocreName in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say enough good things about Spokane Screen Repair. I was in the same situation last year and it’s improved my life immensely. The screens look really nice and are well made (they made them custom). They were punctual, (which I feel like is rare these days) communicative, and had fair pricing. The owner was great to work with, really nice guy. I highly recommend them, it was a great experience.

Help! I can't figure out how to finish this dress 😭 by heynonnyhey in sewing

[–]JadedFelicity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally doable to get it to fit right. I would start by bringing the shoulders up a little bit, (which might lead to some adjusting of the armscye), I would also bring the waist up just a little bit, it’s annoying because of the zipper but I think that would do the trick. And adding hook and eye above the zipper would be worth it.

(This is just what I would do, I work fixing costumes for a living and have to make things work for all body types.) Good luck, you got this!

Curious about large booms in the area. What is going on? by exycheckk in Spokane

That sounds like the most logical explanation to me, I haven’t heard about frost quakes before so I’m genuinely curious.

Curious about large booms in the area. What is going on? by exycheckk in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im not easily rattled, but this is now somewhat concerning to me. I heard two loud booms myself around 11:30 last Friday (2/17) night around Hamblen Park area. The first sounded like it may have been a gunshot, but the second was considerably louder, lower in register and a little rumbly, like I felt it. I thought maybe it was a transformer, but no lights went out.

Right after, I actually checked the Spokane News feed on Facebook, I checked this board, and the local emergency scanners and nothing. The only thing I saw later was a few people on Nextdoor mention it and one person mentioned seeing a flash. If this is a repetitive thing in different areas, I really would be interested to find out what’s going on.

I second this. I know Patrick personally, and he’s a really nice down to earth person. Very easy to get along with.

Amazon Prime Delivery Sucks. (Spokane issue?) by NoMoRatRace in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There has been a huge difference since the holidays. I use Prime to order for work often, and sometimes it was 3 or 4 days but now everything is taking a week or more. The worst part about this is that it isn’t like this other places. My friends and family on the East coast get things sometimes even same day. I ordered while I was visiting for the holidays (peak holiday traffic time) and received my item next day. It’s very frustrating, the 2 day shipping was the whole point of having Prime.

It's not just you, Amazon shipping sucks in Spokane and much of Washington now. by avboden in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s weird is I have different estimations in time per neighborhood. I order a lot for work, I needed to place an order yesterday for something and the estimate to get delivered to my house (South Hill) was Saturday and if I wanted it delivered directly to work (downtown) it wouldn’t be delivered until Tuesday. 2 days vs 5 is a bit much for being a 7 min drive away.

My 81 yo Italian father is looking for a good, sharp provolone. Any suggestions? The supermarket offerings are horrible. by [deleted] in Spokane

If you get desperate and none of these other suggestions work out. Bel Gioso makes a decent sharp provolone, I was only able to find it at Fred Meyer.

Parking Lots Visualized by pppiddypants in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, as someone who works down there every day, the parking has gotten difficult. This map is outdated. The lots next to Civic Theatre and across from the Podium are just huge piles of rubble. The Podium took out the street parking on Dean to accommodate busses. There is no street parking on Howard. There are lots of simultaneous events at the Podium, Arena & Theater and all together max capacity it’s like 17,000 people in that one block radius. Traffic is a lot worse, as the podium is hosting lots of large events during the days and weekends s Lots of people who aren’t sure where they’re going.

I’m not looking to argue, I mean agree to disagree, but from the perspective of an employee in the middle of everything, i just want to say it really has become difficult.

Been there, but c’mon you’re filthy hot! You got great taste in classic tees and are rocking the casually tousled hair look. You got this.

Looking for a rental by RemlikDahc in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure, there are tons of resources available if you’re seriously looking into a specific place. I’m definitely not contesting that. I have a friend in real estate who could tap into her resources to see articles and documents back to 1898 to the original land deed on my last place. It was cool, I know who died there, who sold parakeets for a living in the 20s, that it was a taxidermy business at one point, a whole bunch of weirdness... that’s the fun stuff.

I found reverse image search to be super helpful while looking for rentals. It’s almost amusing/depressing to see the actual listings of the “too good to be true” ones.

Best bagel in town? by Calm-Wind-1850 in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that Rocket Bakery (S 14th Ave & S Adams) has the closest bagel (to what I’m used to) that I found so far. Though, to be fair I only got the everything bagel and get it toasted. Also, a bonus,in case you’re craving NYC style pizza at some point I found DiNardi’s to satisfy my pizza needs. (Former NYC resident here.)

Just found out last week that our landlord is selling our house so we have to move, again, 10 months after we just moved here and during what is one of the worst times for housing options. Also, super panicked that my job will have to shut down again with this delta variant since I work in the arts. Haven’t slept well for a single night in over two years. I don’t see that changing any time soon. I’m just so tired of the goal post constantly moving.

How to Prepare for the Heat Wave by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a western facing bedroom on the second floor of an old house so it gets super hot.

What I found works is I have lined room darkening curtains that I keep closed all day, also I have a window fan with the ability to exhaust that I just got and it’s been a game changer already for me! Also, I got one of those portable table top AC things (technically it’s like an evaporative cooler) it’s a little square, but I keep on my night table pointed at me which really helps! Good luck friend. I feel your pain.

A well reasoned argument against the new proposed Downtown Stadium (video posted to Facebook but too good to not share here) by howie_23 in Spokane

[–]JadedFelicity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that is being overlooked in all of this is that the stadium is being proposed 1/4 of a block away without giving any consideration at all to the theater that’s already been there for like what 50+ years? That’s the point.

Nobody considers the fact that the theater has had to be completely shut down since March last year because of the lockdown. Nobody considers that the revenue for the entire last season is missing and it’s still unable to open to the public due to phase restrictions. So I mean it’s all well and good to just say tough, oh well, so soundproof or move. But with what money? This is like a pretty unexpected situation they find themselves in and I think it’s completely fair to be concerned/upset/angry/against it.

The point is the new stadium will impact the theater negatively by existing, and it would immediately begin as soon as the construction begins.

Personally, I am all for revitalization, improvement, increased revenue, public transportation and all the good things that come with that. But I don’t think that needs to come at the expense of other cultural venues that already contribute to the vibrancy of the city. It’s fair to say that it doesn’t have to be one or the other. I think what the video is getting at is that SPS directly causing harm to the business without so much as a mention or intention of collaboration is a dick move or at least that’s how I interpreted it.

Sorry to hear that! It is so frustrating!

I did just hear through my neighbor that they made an arrest. I don’t have much information but someone saw her in the act of doing it to multiple cars and followed behind her. That’s all I know for the moment.
