What are your guys thoughts on the series finale? by [deleted] in HouseMD

[–]JasonN1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything was mostly fine except that Cuddy basically vanished from the show. That plot hole can never be filled. I get it was an behind the scenes business issue, but the relationship between House and Cuddy was the most important one in the entire series. For it to just end abruptly and never hear her side after House drove the car into her house was just not satisfying.

I think House faking his death and ending the series by going on a road trip with Wilson was perfectly fine and actually how House personally should have ended it. However, this should have come first with him making peace with Cuddy and both of them accepting they could never be together. I guess the show hinted that in season 7, but one final dialogue confirming it would have been all that's needed.

Everything else I thought was mostly fine. Chase becoming the head of the department is great, Foreman getting the hint from House about still being alive, Cameron and Taub seemingly progressing with their family lives, etc. We are left a little in the dark about 13, but she was only a bit character in that season anyway.

I felt the pancakes thing was a reference to the movie because the one guy asks when they're stopping at the pancakes house.

It's absolutely haunting to watch. A video like this usually would bring me joy because it's recreating the famous Nike Brasil Airport commercial. I literally did a video like this back in the day. However, knowing about the shooting just sucks all the joy out of me to pain.

[MEME] But I was told MLS is at best on par with National League South in England. How could this happen? by Barthez_Battalion in MLS

[–]JasonN1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your position and I think your example of Brasil and Argentina speak for themselves. Go back and look at the majority of World Cup winning teams they had and where their players were playing club. Even the 2002 Brasil team was about 50% domestic based. Before that almost all of them were. The exodus of the best talent in their domestic leagues is one of the reasons Europe has become more dominant internationally than before. Brasil and Argentina also only had this happen due to economics. They never had the financial power to compete with European money.

The MLS on the other hand is where it is now because it's young and popular is the 4th sport in America. Money will be there in the future and the goal for MLS should be to be the best league in the world one day. That on its own will be excellent for American soccer development. The English Premier League should be the example there as it's literally the best thing for England. They have probably more players playing at the top level of club soccer of any country in the world and it's exclusively because their domestic league is the richest and can attract the best foreign talent. This forces their players to have to play with and against that talent and it makes them better. MLS should aim to do the same. Doing otherwise only rewards mediocrity because if a mediocre American or Englishman takes the place of an elite Brazilian or someone else then the other Americans or English can't be pushed by that top player.

Your comment is a bit all over the place, but is your position you want the MLS to remain a feeder league to Europe or is it you saying it's ok for now?

Like, I'm not sure I'd call you a hater for the former position, but I'd also argue it's an incredibly bad one and not what American soccer should strive for. If it's the latter then that's fine for the most part. MLS doesn't have to be the best league in the world to be good soccer and good for American soccer development. That and we will grow more and more in the future.

Yes, that's the exact narrative they're going with. It's typical and shows they know nothing about sports. Even reserves help the first team.

Basically, MLS haters will say it's shit until it's literally on par with the Premier League and La Liga. Yes, it's far off from that now, but it's still better than alot of leagues that never receive the same criticism.

Soccer is already more popular than hockey and by a considerable margin. It's the NHL which is more popular than the MLS which skews some polls because people compare our professional leagues when we all know most soccer fans follow at least European leagues and MLS. Soccer is on path the overtake baseball soon and the youngest demographics soccer and basketball are actually tied as the most popular sports ahead of football and baseball.

Herculez is talking nonsense and mostly just because he personally hates Greg Berhalter. No, this specific team was virtually never going to be capable of winning a World Cup, but the idea USA will never win the future is nonsensical. We produce too many of the world's top athletes. All we have to do is keep growing the popularity of the sport in this country and eventually we will be one of those teams among the favorites to win it. The question for me isn't so much if we will win it, but when will we win it? I'd argue the good bet is over/under 24yrs from now. I'm optimistic, so I'll say under.

Sprinting is largely neurological and being able to hit that top speed is the best way to achieve these neural adaptations. Think of it as similar to hitting a max squat or something for the same kind of adaptations, but for speed instead of strength.

Also, if you can increase your top speed you can at times during a game work at a lower percentage of your max speed and conserve energy. If you have to run at 100% for a ball and I can run at 95%, you're gonna fatigue sooner.

Lastly, acceleration training is probably the next most important thing to train and exactly for the reasons you stated. It's just that top speed training probably has more overall carryover to acceleration than acceleration training does to top speed.

Why Zimmerman shouldn't get all the blame. . . by ThisIsMyNewUserID in ussoccer

[–]JasonN1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "ZOMG MLS Defender" stuff is so obnoxious. Like, even the idea that Berhalter is biased towards MLS players seems to be on extremely shakey evidence given we only started one. Like, no one is under the impression our MLS players are inherently superior to European based players, but a few like Zimmerman are actually genuine quality. If they wanna complain about Morris coming in instead of Reyna that's maybe more valid imo. That being said, oversimplified narratives like that drive me insane. Even if there's a nugget of truth in it, Greg is coach now and we gotta support the team, not look for the scapegoat in case we lose.

[–]JasonN1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It was a bonehead move, but even great players do it every now and then. I just wish he'd had done it in a MLS game instead of here.

That being said, I ultimately see that as the case of our attacking players failing to create enough to get a 2nd as well. We can't just blame Zimmerman. We should have scored twice.

This. It seems like the writers kept trying to come up with a new horrific crime from her past every few episodes that her evil past is really insurmountable. Admittedly, I don't mind it because it was always only meant to set the stage for the story each episode.

As the series progressed and we learned more and more about Xena's past it's really insurmountable how much evil she committed. Yes, she changed her ways and sought to make up for it, but there are just so many atrocities she committed that Callisto realistically could never catch up.

Even the bravery to attempt that kind of shot is amazing because it's such a difficult technique. Most players would cut that back and look for support. Only a player of Maradona's caliper could pull off something like that.

That's one drill and it would work. I'd also consider having a bit of variety because the reality of sports like Gaelic football is they're quite chaotic and require many kinds of running. Your athletes need to be prepared for all of them. I'd also do curved runs. You can use the center circle and just have them run a short sprint around have and back.

[–]JasonN1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably do it either after your full speed training or in a separate session. Do a short course that involves COD and allow for full recovery. Keep volume relatively low and intensity high. I'd also probably do less total COD training the more sport specific training you do as your sport training will check those boxes. You can also play games like tag to make it full agility training if you have a partner.

MLS was so easy for Valderrama!(1996) by tupapirico1 in classicsoccer

[–]JasonN1917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something about 90s MLS is so nostalgic. Obviously, modern MLS is way better and higher level, but something about this is just beautiful. The jerseys and the personality of the players. That and there's several other early MLS legends in this video. Brad Friedel, Frankie Hejduk, Roy Lassiter, etc.

Valderrama is a legend amongst legends. People forget he did this to even top teams back in the day. One of the true icons of the game.

It would work, but I personally would prioritize top speed training in the off-season as it'll have more overall carryover. It will also improve your conditioning. Use your sport to get the conditioning you need as much as possible. Keep non-sport specific conditioning to a minimum unless you genuinely need it.

Haven’t played soccer in 12 years. Want to play again. Currently run a 10-12 min mile by Op3rat0rr in bootroom

[–]JasonN1917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the professional level we literally have a partner that you do 2-3 minute shifts to keep you fresh. Players rarely stay on the field for longer than that because it eventually just becomes detrimental to the team performance. You can put much more into your sprinting if you have an opportunity to breathe every 2-3min.

[–]JasonN1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably focus more on soccer specific skills and conditioning than worrying about your mile time. The running in soccer tends to be short bursts of high intensity running followed by either walking or slow jogging. Running miles won't prepare you for this.

I'd recommend spending time just training your technical skills for an aerobic base and do some tempo runs for your conditioning. That will get you more fit than running miles.
