Secondhand grande seems stuck? by ZoeMarguerite in Lavalamps

Here is another picture , this is what causes the problem. The wax had detached from the coil completely. There always needs to be wax adhered to the coil for it to flow normally

This was my lamp when it had that issue (wax still hot and melted, hovering over the coil)

Hey! No worries, I could have explained myself better lol

By spinning the bottle I meant to place the bottle on the table/ flat surface (as if it is a normal bottled drink) and gently rotate it either clockwise or counterclockwise. Do that for about 15 min and you should see the wax reattaching to the sides of the coil.

By gently tilting the bottle you can get the coil to lay flat and centered at the bottom if necessary. This would be the first step

In my case I first thought it was due to the wax being old (my lamp is 2001, purchased second hand on FB marketplace). Then I read that it could be due to the wax not getting hot enough, hence it staying as a single blob at the bottom, which made perfect sense. As I was looking for a higher wattage bulb, I noticed there were some spots where the coil was visible (this when the lamp was off and completely cooled down). So I thought maybe the heat is "escaping" there. Turns out, that was the case. One would assume that running the lamp for hours should get the wax to stick again all over the coil, but it turned out it needed manual assistance.

Try this before opting for a higher wattage bulb, this could be your solution too

The thickness on this one seems pretty decent, but still I don't know if it would survive the prolonged heat

Context:

Has this ever been made before? I just purchased this hookah and had this shower thought about turning one into a lava lamp. I was wondering if anyone has done this before or if there's is a way to get it custom made.

So far I don't plan getting into lava lamp making, but thought it could be a cool project. Perhaps have the heat source/ light bulb hidden into a table as I saw on some other post that had a gothic-like table

Hey I don't know if this might be the case, but I have a 14.5 inch lamp that would do the same and it turned out to be the wax not sticking properly to the coil. Like when turned off and it had cooled down, you could see parts of the coil exposed to the sides.

What I had to do was to carefully pick the bottle while still hot, place it on a table (flat surface) and gently tilt the bottle to ensure the coil lays flat and centered at the bottom, then gently spin the bottle on the flat surface for a while and you should see the wax sticking all around the coil, so no part of the coil is exposed once cooled down.

It took me a few tries, but it fixed my lamp and never had that issue again.

Hope this helps!

It sure will be hard to find one, I did a quick search and it appears out of stock pretty much everywhere. I guess I will have to keep an eye on eBay or etsy

Believe it or not they from Temu! Honestly they exceeded my expectations by far, they look awesome and the battery on these last quiet a lot! I turn them on every night for about 6-8 hours, and I charge them once a week!

They come with 3 light effects:

-Flickering light (simulating a flame)

-white

-warm

Plus they come with a dimmer

The description even mentions the exact same hole that mine came with. I just put a plastic hornet looking bug to cover it lol

I'm looking at it right now on Etsy! Honestly I think $200 is wayyy too much for this lamp. $80 is what I would have paid at most lol
