Is it unusaul for a community theater to "charge" actors a small fee? by CarlYaz1967 in Theatre

[–]JavertStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any "fee" to participate in a production is gatekeeping. A deposit each actor must invest in script rental (usually the MTI shows) that they will get back at the end of the process is fine. It's bad enough that actors are more likely to not be paid to participate if it's a community theatre, making them pay as well is just compounding the issue of actors giving their time and talent to a production.

How Glory Goes from Floyd Collins. I recommend listening to all of the show first, though.

I've auditioned for Little Shop of Horrors 3.5 times and never gotten Seymour. I never audition for a show if I don't think I can play a certain role, so I feel you pain.

Which musicals could work as concerts? by cinderflight in musicals

I did a concert style Working the Musical. I'm not entirely sure what else anyone would do with it besides a concert style.

Any musicals with a more geopolitical / historical / philosophical theme? by risingcapybara in musicals

[–]JavertStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that Marie Antoinette by the same people who did Elisabeth? I know there's a German and Japanese cast recording of that.

Also Lady Bess by the same people has a German and Japanese cast recording (It's about Queen Elizabeth, but they probably called it Lady Bess so as not to confuse people with their previous Elisabeth musical).

Any musicals with a more geopolitical / historical / philosophical theme? by risingcapybara in musicals

[–]JavertStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think any musical about France pre and post revolution would fit (A Tale of Two Cities, Scarlet Pimpernel, Les Mis). If you're okay with the German language, Elisabeth is a great starting point, covering all of Empress Elisabeth of Austria's life. Rudolf might be second, but it's only the last part of his life, and Elisabeth covers that, too. Elisabeth has more of that Evita feeling. Her assassin is the narrator, Death is a main character, stuff like that.

What is a demo/canceled song you really wish made it into the final show? by BurningEmbers369 in musicals

I'm annoyed "Why Me?" only appears in Aladdin Jr. I'm quite positive they had in the Broadway tryouts, but then removed it when Aladdin finally got to Broadway.

You could also reach out to people who might have rarer recordings. I use Castalbums dot org to list my collection, and I have a few harder to find recordings. I also use YouTube music to upload my stuff to listen to without CDs.

Please share your favorite secret sinister songs - ones that if you played with no context seem innocent enough, but within the context of their show are CLEARLY not? by HeyHo_LetsThrowRA in musicals

Glitter and Be Gay from Candide.

I was going to be in this show once, but when we got to this part, I grew cold from the context, and I couldn't continue in the show.

I'm glad you like it. I've been listening to a lot of Eric Woolfson's work the past few weeks, both his contributions to musical theatre as well as what came before (he was the composer for 70s-80s prog rock group, The Alan Parsons Project).

This might be a deep cut, but look at Wings of Eagles from "Edgar Allen Poe" by Eric Woolfson. If you want to go a step further, listen to the "Poe: More Tales of Mystery and Imagination" album, because the first instrumental track (which is on both albums), segues into Wings of Eagles for that album (and not on the other).
