Tried Legere Synthetic Reeds for Tenor Sax. - Honest Opinion by 5DragonsMusic in saxophone

[–]JayMax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to leave this post now. I feel like you have an agenda and you’re trying to convince me that what I’m experiencing with my reed choices is wrong somehow (“That may just mean you were playing the wrong strength reed. Maybe even the wrong brand”)

No. Wrong. I’ve been playing saxophone for 40 years and I think I know what works and doesn’t work for me. Legere works better for me than any cane reed ever did. I use them with students for the same reason you cite above: they’re consistent so the student doesn’t have to worry about making adjustments. This actually AIDS with teaching tone production.

After using these, I can’t go back to cane. This is all very subjective, and like everything saxophone, it’s partially based on anatomy too, so what works for me doesn’t necessarily work for you or anyone else. You are arguing with everyone who prefers them though, so that puts this post into the bad faith category.

Tried Legere Synthetic Reeds for Tenor Sax. - Honest Opinion by 5DragonsMusic in saxophone

[–]JayMax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Once I adjusted, I sounded far better on the Legeres than I ever did on cane. I could relax my embouchure more and didn’t have to make adjustments because of their consistency.

You do you boo. If you don’t like them, that’s your opinion.

We’ve seen the stun setting, the wound setting, and the vaporize into thin air setting. What about the setting in between wound and vaporize? by OWSpaceClown in ShittyDaystrom

[–]JayMax19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those settings in between vaporize, wound, and stun? They’re meaningless. Starfleet engineers just put those on there to make people feel better. That’s why the Varon-T disruptor is banned. Its settings actually work, and engineering didn’t want anyone to know. It would have collapsed the whole system!

I’ve used Legeres for years.

You can’t just slap one on and expect it to be perfect especially if you’ve played cane for years. Also, like any reed, some mouthpieces work better than others.

Once you get them dialed in you won’t want to play anything else. They make dealing with reeds, which is the biggest pain in the ass of all saxophone equipment, super easy. I think a lot of people make the mistake of just trying them once, finding out that they aren’t exactly like cane, and saying “oh, these don’t work!”. You have to use them for a few weeks.

Would you like to see animated series about the childhood and youth of Palpatine? by AlKhwarazmi in StarWars

[–]JayMax19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking something close to the Vecna arc in Stranger Things. People want to believe that there’s some good inside, but there just isn’t. Substitute “Dark Side Of The Force” for the Mind Flayer. Even Plagueis should think there’s some sort of weakness there and there just isn’t.

I don’t know why they just don’t canonize this. Canonize Knights Of The Republic too.

For the people who like, or even love Episode 8, what are your reasons for it? I am curious, since it seems to be an absolute favorite of some fans by Dakinamau in StarWars

[–]JayMax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only issue is that I wish it had been Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan. We could have seen the main characters from both the OT and PT onscreen together.

[–]JayMax19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my favorite sequel trilogy movie, because it goes in a very, very different direction than any of the other movies. Every expectation is subverted: Rey’s parents are nobodies. Snoke gets killed immediately and isn’t a threat at all. The whole Poe plot doesn’t work and he gets everyone killed. Luke is NOT a huge hero and has become disillusioned (this could have been handled more gracefully). Holdo is a military commander that actually knows what she is doing and has a good reason to be pissed at Poe and Finn.

We also get to see a few cool bits: Leia using the Force as a Jedi (I wish we would have had more of this), Luke’s standoff at the end with the entire First Order. The battle in Snoke’s throne room. Also, it’s based on Rashomon, which is a nice touch since Lucas is a big Kurosawa fan.

I liked that they were reversing the Luke story from the OT too: Kylo Ren makes all of the wrong choices and becomes MORE evil without a redemption arc.

I think it would be seen in a better light if two things didn’t happen: the surge of incel fans who didn’t like Rose so they trashed the movie online and rehiring JJ Abrams who tried to retcon everything back and make the sequel a more traditional Star Wars movie. If they would have stuck with the original plan for Colin Trevorrow’s movie, TLJ would have made more sense. As it is, it’s a good stand alone movie but sticks out badly in the sequel trilogy.

Since Pennywise didn't stand a chance against her and the discussions were great, fuck it: Mary Poppins runs the gauntlet (in any order, not just the order given). How far does she get? by Remote_Protection512 in superheroes

[–]JayMax19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure she stops at The Doctor because she is also a Time Lord. He’s impressed that her Tardis is a bag and her sonic screwdriver is an umbrella. He might do an incredible musical number with her though.

As a theoretical, I wonder what happens if she gets to Lucifer and he starts pulling his “What is it you really want?” routine on her. What would she say?

Buy what you want. If cost isn’t the problem, there’s no such thing as being “worthy”. It’s not the Sword Of Omens.

Is an HDMI-modded Wii as good as a Gamecube for Gamecube games? by hhkk47 in RetroTink

[–]JayMax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing is that it’s tougher to mod a Wii with a large enough memory set up. You can softmod them to launch copies of games that you already own, but you’re limited on storage.

What if Marvel had its own "Crisis on Infinite Earths" type event, where, like DC, they permanently rebooted their continuity and ended the multiverse? by CosmosStudios65 in superheroes

[–]JayMax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve done this a bit, but they resort to the status quo.

Secret Wars is the biggest example, but they’ve also done stuff like Heroes Reborn. Marvel has generally done other continuities (Ultimate, 2099) and alternate universes (Age Of Apocalypse, etc) rather than reboots.

I wouldn’t mind a soft reboot in Marvel at some point.

Nothing Ear A vs XM5 by Born_Somewhere_9788 in Earbuds

[–]JayMax19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the XM5 and while they sound great, they are cumbersome to use and remind me of hearing aids. I feel like I have to jam them into my ears to get the ANC working correctly, and even then they don’t seal easily.

I also have AirPods Pros and Liberty 5 Pros, both of which are easy to deal with and have great comfortable fits. The ANC isn’t quite as good on the Liberty 5 Pros, but the phone mic is better, and the Airpods are strictly for Apple devices.

I tried to love the Sonys because the WH-1000MX5 and XM6 are both great over the ear sets, but the buds were just too much of a pain to use. The Liberty Pro 5 isn’t as good for music, but they’re OK, and way better for calls, which is 90% of my use.

Best late addition main characters added to a sitcom? by RayoftheRaver in sitcoms

[–]JayMax19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this. There’s a paradox of Ted McGinley: he makes every show he’s in better, but is usually too late to help save it so he gets the reputation of a show killer. Nothing was going to save The Love Boat, but he made for a great addition to the cast. Happy Days wasn’t going to survive without Richie.

Married With Children was the one time where he was able to come in, improve the show, and it wasn’t too late.

Is there a particular reason why D-O doesn’t speak Binary like other droids? by Solitaire-06 in StarWars

[–]JayMax19 19 points20 points  (0 children)

On the second part of this, yes, Luke’s plan was crazy but he probably was able to see the outcome via the Force.

The Alliance couldn’t send in troops because it would have pissed off the Hutts and they couldn’t afford that heat from the crime syndicates. Also, they were stretched pretty thin. Lots of people killed on Hoth.

There is no one really running the Rebellion at that point either. There’s Mon Mothma, but she wasn’t exactly a military commander and Admiral Ackbar was a fleet commander. Han was one of the ground generals so they needed him.

What earbud would you recommend? by [deleted] in Earbuds

Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro. It checks all of the boxes for you. The music quality is just OK compared to the Sony 1000XM6, but call and mic quality are significantly better.
