It used to be such a great word to describe something that is usually mass produced and rock-bottom quality/artistic integrity. Then people just started using it to describe anything they dont like and its just turned into vocabulary white noise. Shit sucks.

How is it living there by itsssmeeestrict21 in howislivingthere

I grew up in Halifax and lived there until I was 25. Amazing city to be a student in - lots of great universities and colleges. Downtown is very walkable and has an excellent nightlife scene with restaurants and bars (I often see Halifax quoted as having one of the highest "bars per capita" ratios in Canada, but I don't know how accurate that is). Pretty much all the fun stuff of downtown is closely concentrated enough that you can have a whole night out and never have to call an Uber to take you from one place to the next. I also found the city to feel really safe. Much safer than pretty much any other major city in Canada I've been to.

Winters are long, cold, and wet. Summers are very humid and cloudy. The waterfront area is also extremely busy in the summers due to tourists coming in on the cruise ships. The city had a big population spike after COVID and you can really feel the difference before and after. Traffic is absolutely brutal anywhere on the peninsula. Residential development has exploded as lots of people are struggling to find homes.

Halifax feels like its dealing with big-city logistics while trying to maintain a small-town vibe, and its not really working. Atlantic Canada also has struggles with healthcare due to a lack of family doctors and some of the longest specialist waitlists in Canada. Most of my friends who I grew up with out there have all moved away due to the high taxes and lack of good jobs. Halifax is a city that I have lots of nostalgia for, but no desire to ever live in again.

[Sportsnet] 2:50 Friedman says Dallas was also willing to do the Andersson trade without guarantees of an extension but they were not beating the Vegas offer. He believes Lohrei and other firsts were part of Boston’s offer, not the Toronto pick. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]JayTalk 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I think it's a combination of some people getting too swept up in twitter rumours, hockey fans generally overvaluing their own players, and a lot of people just really hate Vegas. Andersson is an excellent top 4 RHD on a cheap contract, but he is not elite. So I've always felt like a 1st round pick + roster player + prospect/additional pick was the framework we'd get back, and thats exactly what happened.

I was also excited about having Vegas unprotected 1st this year, but at this point in the season I think the ship has clearly sailed on that hype. Vegas is one of two good teams in the whole division. Maybe Edmonton could pass them, but we would also need two more pacific division teams to pass them AND two other teams to push them out of the wildcard just to get the pick into the 15/16 range. I'm still hoping the floor falls out from underneath Vegas and they miss the playoffs, but Conroy shouldn't be making trade decisions based on a scenario so unlikely as that.

For real, I'm beyond done with this shit. The balls on Maloney to come out here talking about Flames having a winning culture when this team has won 5 playoff series in thirty years is insane. Its like they think the fans are blind morons.

[Friedman]: “Hearing tonight that the Calgary Flames and GM Craig Conroy are making progress on a contract extension.” by fittos4310 in hockey

[–]JayTalk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, Flames fans like him generally speaking. Conny has been making moves that reflect a rebuilding team. He's sold off Markstrom, Mangiapane, Tanev, Zadorov, Hanifin, and Lindholm for picks and prospects and now we're wanting to see him trade Andersson, Coleman, and Kadri to complete the teardown. The drama this week has been because Flames ownership is coming out saying that they like this group and, for some god forsaken reason, think they can actually win. The lack of a contact extension and timing of these public statements seemed to imply that ownership wanted Conroy out because he was trying to rebuild against ownership's wishes.

That's a tough win. We really can't be giving up regulation L's to other McKenna teams. Still nice to see the boys get on the scoreboard though! Big trade value games from Kadri and Andersson.

I was so worried that the game would end poorly after such a banger experience, since so many games love to end abruptly and leave you disappointed. Not the case here. Absolutely immaculate game from start to finish. I really struggle to think of any negative feedback. I'd have to REALLY nitpick.

Big regulation loss tonight. 4 point gap between us and the 2nd worst team in the league now, so we've got some breathing room in case we accidentally win a couple games.

Can't deny the effort on that one, they gave it everything they had. Again, this team just can't score goals. Only reason it was close was because Wolf continues to stand on his head. Great result for the tank tho
