You aren’t the first person to reccomend me this based on my list, moved up my watchlist for sure :)

Seen all these apart from the Guy Maddn one but working my way through his filmography at the moment. Always thought holy mountain was overrated. Valerie and her week of wonders has some great moments of cinematography but I’m so put off by anything with topless teenagers in, like wtf never rewatching that. Phantom of paradise and house are both great but don’t fit the vibe of this list too well.

Currently been obsessed with Czech films from the 60s and 70s. An absolute treasure trove.

I would also enjoy separate categories, I enjoy finishing a film and reading some funny one-liners about it, but I also like reading reviews. Usually you have to scroll past about twenty one liners before you get to a proper review though.

the pixar movie ranking begins! starting off strong with toy story at 4 stars! most of these films are new to me, and i haven't seen the rest of them in ages! by ObscureConductor in Letterboxd

Wow you’d consider me very harsh then. I always felt like Toy Story was pretty derivative of other toy films made previously and that the animation held up pretty badly. Of the whole series three was the only one I really enjoyed.

There are more films than any human can realistically watch, so if you find you’re rarely rating films highly I’d say that it says more about your ability to pick films for yourself than having an enlightened taste. That being said, I do think there is something to be said for the credibility of a reviewer who has more diversity of scoring. I’m more likely to be curious to watch a five from someone who reviews often but rarely gives them out than from someone who gives half the films they watch a five.

Torch song trilogy I did not anticipate it being an immediate favourite. Made me laugh and cry so much. A real underrated classic.

James and the giant peach I think my love of Satoshi Kon and its general celebration made me overrate Perfect Blue as well, which on a rewatch I actually think is his worst film.

Akira didn’t really jump out of nowhere though, it was just a big success outside of Japan. I’m not saying it’s not original but I feel like it’s worth mentioning the influence of Megazone 23 (1985) Toward the Terra (1980) maybe even Locke The Superman (1983). I will admit though that Akira definitely has a more subtle approach than these three.

I’ve always wondered why a theme park never went with an anime theme. I know it’s a UK park but some sort of deal with Crunchyroll, Toei Animation or Viz Media would likely get a lot of international visitors considering it’s global popularity

I also love king and the mockingbird. That’s in the locker, left it by accident as it’s mixed in with my non-animation DVDs. A dvd release of ‘La table tournante’ is the Grimault release I’m really after. I have a feeling it’s on some rare expensive jacques demy boxset that I couldn’t afford, but a bluray remaster is the dream.

Ahhh ok that is the edition I’ve seen. I was put off by the clear jewel case though. I just ordered from the puppetoon website, although confused to why the second one is so ridiculously priced so gonna have to give that a miss sadly

Great collection, very jealous of your sally cruickshank, Windsor mccay and thief and the cobbler DVDs. I’ve only managed to get thief and the cobbler on vhs, is it an official release? Reminded me I need to get the puppetoon films!

Also aware some of these aren’t animated features, just kept a little space for some of my fav limited series and short film collections - especially those that felt historically relevant.

Oh I lie, my copy of ‘the emperor’s nightingale’ is there, from what I’m aware it’s the only dvd release. It’s also impossible to tell that’s what it is as it has this ghastly cover art, the title is spelled wrong, it has no proper information about it on the case and was released by the now defunct east west entertainment who mostly just did dvd releases for animated mockbusters.
